I think you should just try the OCP mod and see hwo it goes first, maybe the mnods are not necessary

    I simply added I didn't replace any

06 GT2 is just killer for the card, I can pass GT1 @ 1200mhz core with just -20+C but GT2 needs -30+c to pass

These cores are really the rejects, they require lots of volts to run the same mhz as 2900. Good thing these cards are easier to tame than 2900, the main heat is from core clocks, raising voltage by +0.1v creates only the same amount of heat as raising ~20MHz of the core.

Don't all ATI cards have an OCP chip, which can be removed?

    Very nice Peter!

I would estmate that your 3870 clocks is pretty equal to a 2900XT running 1160-1180MHz core with 950-980MHz frame buffer, it might even be just as fast. That GDDR4 speed offers alot of bandwidth wich should be enough to compensate for the 256-bit interface. In my testing on air cooling if you max 3870 and 2900 frame buffer freq with gpu set at 800MHz the perf is pretty equal in 06.

Thanks!! Knowing you as the guy who benches the 2900s the most heheh I would believe your estimation! Alright, so that's pretty sweet, at least a whole lot easier to cool than 2900 and doesn't lose much!

woah very nice stuff Peter... i'd have to say if Hipro and you got together again, manufacturers won't be able to recognise their products with all the extreme mods and component replacements
