    Hello,

I also have a Striker Extreme. I don't like this board, but here are my results.
    450FSB stable on C2Q and 1303 BIOS.
I have an aircooled rig, so this was far as I could push it.

Did you check your dimms with a bootable vista dvd ?
No large fan can replace a small fan on top of each cooler (NB, and two mosfets)
    thanks for your sugestions,
i ran the vista dvd no errors there.
i tried these settings mate, and i still have the problem of the computer restarting.
blue screen appears now and again after reboot.
i think it would be best to get my cooling sorted out, before i try to go any further, as i am sure this is causing the problems and holding me back.

if i get the cooling sorted ? at least i have a solid platform to work off. and we can remove the cooling from the equasion then.

i just need to know which is the best air cooler to get? and the best cooling for nb/sb ? as you stated a large fan is not as good as a fan directly above the nb/sb.

what size power supply are you using? it could be that it doesnt have enough power and thats what is causing stability problems and forcing the computer to reboot. just a suggestion

I just ordered a Q6700 as everyone knows is 2.66 Gh GO Quad with a 10x multi (to replace the X6800 I am selling).

My question is given the Striker's features (I just bought it new), will I be able to easily hit 10x360 stable on air?

I have a thermalright ultra 120e with a silverstone FM121 fan so I,m not too concerned about cpu temps but NB temps concern me.

Is 3.6 feasible as mentioned above or will I have challenges reaching it?

    Thanks

Well if ya striker does 360Mhz you will be fine, if not you will have to go the 9 multi way, some had succes with 415mhz FSB and 830mhz ram then, my boards works with 425FSB and 850 on the ram, mine never worked with 450FSB with 900mhz ram couldn't get that one stable at all...

Good luck mate keep us posted what gives, you can try 1305 bios but most peeps had less OC's with 1305 and reverted back to 1303 or 1301...

1305 worked crap with my E6600 though was pretty fine with the E6850...
I have one question I read there are Q6700 GO's out too ? or did I misread that ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Yes the Q6700 is a GO (all of the Q6700 are GO steppings) and is available. Its the same as the new Q6600 except the 10x multi. Ever since the 680i boards have issues with Quads in general, I figured it would be easier to get 10x360 than 9x400 to get to my planned 3.6.

Has anyone tried the 1401 beta yet with a quad? I have downloaded it but not flashed it yet (won;t have my quad until friday regardless).

My ram runs fine at 1066 although I typically run it at lower speed tighter timings for better speed.

well for a start change your bios from 1305 to 1303, 1301 or if your feeling adventureous (spelling) try the 1401 bios. second i dont understand why you paid the extra for the Q6700 when the Q6600 performs just as well and is able to reach some of the highest overclocks around.
If your NB temps concern you during overclocking you could always buy an aftermarket passive cooler like thermalright ones or fix a small 40mm fan on top of the original passive cooler, its surprising how much of a difference a small fan can make.

I have a pair of thermaltake extreme spirit II's that I used on the nb and sb of my asus p5n32-e. also with the p5n32-e, the highest fsb I could get with a q6600 was about 360. 360x9. Thats only 3.2 ghz. So I figured with the striker, I could hit 10x360 (which is what I;m looking for) with a higher default multi.

Also I sold my X6800 for what it will cost me for a Q6700 so I broke even. Its not like I need anything else right now.

I sure glad you guys have had luck ocing a quad on your striker boards. Because I have no success..Went back to my E6850. Because I could oc the quad to make up the difference of my OCed 6850...Ive tried every bios setting in this thread to with no success..Chip has been tested on a P5K Dlx to 3.6g...

Is it true that some striker boards just dont like the quads....

Not sure about specific strikers not liking quads but they do have issues with 4gb ram and overclocking with a quad

Why do you say that, i had no problem with 4x1Gb or 2x2GB and clocking a quad, all the bios settings I posted in this thread were with 4GB ram

No, I will wait a bit until it is out, as I am happy with things on my rig ATM.

I have been pondering finally pulling the trigger on an EE chip, have never felt they were worth the money, but now with the low multi high FSB on all the other Yorkie's seem the only option for the 4.5GHZ range. I have moved to Oregon in the last 6 months, and know a few guys at intel so get the chips for 1/2 of MSRP, so may have my contact get me one after the holidays.

Maybe I'm missing something here and you guys are just trying for the hell of it... but... didn't you see the threads about yorkfield not working in a 680i? Long story short, doesnt work. Erratic behavior and/or locked in to low multi. ES samples worked, but retail do not, apparently. Only wolfdale (dual core) 45nm will work.

Just to pu my 2 cents in. I have EVGA 680i and just finished tying to use a q6600 GO that is supposed to overclock nicely. Well it does NOT on my EVGA. The best I could get was 2700 and temps are NOT a proplem. Even tried 1.60 Vcore... I think its a chipset proplem.

i think i got the same problem with my striker, it only works on stock with my q6600 g0, even if i raise the volts..or try whatever settings..it wont go up! not even 1333..NADA..i guess ill have to rma the board and get a x38 to overclock this .

I have manage to get my striker to 3.2 on 1.5 volts on the sriker. This is all on crappy thermaltake watercooling. I am going to be cooling the chipset with thermaltake items and the cpu with new watercooling setup so I will post my results soon.
