Can U remove the NB of this board, without "voiding" the warranty if there a seal or something on it?
As some1 mentioned that his DFI blood does has a seal on the NB, thus removing the NB would void the warranty.

I don't think that is even necessary.
If you have a good air cooling in your case the stock heatsink will do a good job.

This 'seal' on the NB is very easy to remove without tearing it. Mine came right off.

If you bought your board from motherboardpro then yes you can replace the thermal paste and not worry about rma. mike from motherboardpro is a member here and has said that simple things such as this do not disqualify you from rma. he understands that the replacement of the hastily applied factory tim is actually benificial to the board. he just asks that everyone be honest about it and they will work with you.

Even with stock paste, my chipset doesn't get over 40C.
Of course applying AS5 or MX-2 would only benefit.

What kind of problems? Are you refering to o/c related ones or something else?
    I have 8500C5D Dominators on this mobo and they're running 550MHz 5-5-5-10 @2.1V atm.
Haven't had time to tighten timings yet.

How do you guys get such low chipset temps? At just 1.53 NBcore I'm getting 55 degrees with the case OPEN and ambient temps of around 24deg (aircon setting). The heatsink is burning my hand so I'm guessing it's not a TIM problem..

    55oC doesn't sound crazy Considering a 24oC ambient & 4GB of RAM.

I am running mid 40's with 2GB of ram & 1.61vNB in a 20oC ambient using a 25 x 60 mm Panaflow fan turned down to silent ish

    Actually it's 2GB o.O 4's the second rig :p

Raja's (was it?) guide specifies below 45, hence my worry. Also I've been getting screwed up sound (e-mu 1212m) after leaving my PC on for awhile recently, started happening yesterday. A restart clears it, but I didn't do anything to screw up the software layer so I think it's hardware.

I take it you have a decent amount of air going over the NB heatsink?

I have also tightened my heatpipe up twice form new as the bolts became slack due to the heat bedding the TIM in.

I have had a similar thing when you really pull the RAM down tight, It will bench & run Prime for a while whilst slowly screwing up windows.

My NB runs super hot as well. I do have it set to 1.61v, and I do have 4GB of ram. Under full load it gets anywhere from 58-61c constant. Has me a little worried too. I have no clue how to keep it below 45c without some drastic changes as even at idle it hits 48c. System is stable though. Despite 61c NB temps my system has never crashed under load.

I got 30C idle on NB, and doesn't exceed 40C in full load in my case.
And NB voltage is 1.4V at max.

Hi everyone. Got a two part question here if anyone would be so kind as to sort me out with answers.

1.) Is anyone using a SATA based DVD-RW drive and this board? One from Pioneer perhaps? I currently have an IDE based Pioneer 112 but it no longer reads or writes CD's so I am wanting to purchase the SATA variant of the drive to use on this board. Has anyone had any issues with SATA optical drives not be recognized during post, not being able to be used to boot from during post and/or any issues using them in Windows for reading/writing? Does it matter which port it is used on if it does work well? I was hoping to keep it on the Intel ICH9R controller and disabling the JMicron controller altogether if at all possible. Any feedback would be appreciated.

2.) Has anyone noticed any stability differences in running 4GB of ram on XP Vs. Vista? I ask because 4GB on my current XP SP2 install is running fantastic (so far) but then again XP doesn't use anymore than 3GB at most. I am worried if going to Vista is going to compromise the current stability I am enjoying with 4GB due to the fact that Vista will actually use the full 4GB of ram. I hope I am wrong but I am thinking XP is easier with 4GB of ram since not all of it is being used. Anyone care to comment on this?

    Thanks as usual.

First, only Vista 64 will take advantage of all 4GB, Vista 32 has same limitation that XP 32 has. I believe Vista Ultimate ships with both 32 and 64 bit versions, Premium owners can order the 64 bit version from MS directly for the cost of shipping.

I just installed this mobo with Vista 64 a week ago using an ASUS SATA optical drive and a Western Digital SATA hard drive no problem. I used AHCI for both drives and disabled the JMicron, (why do mobo companies bother with this chip?). Installed without a hitch. BTW, first thing I did was update the bios to 11/07, my board came with a beta bios from 8/23 I believe.

I use a set of GSkill PC28000 2x2 GB ram. No problem at all. Probably gonna grab another set, I use apps that will take advantage of the additional memory. I installed Vista 64 with all 4 Gigs of ram and did not encounter the issue most folks have installing Vista 64 with 4 GB. Perhaps because I used two memory slots vs four?

For the next week or so I'm running with my x6800 @ 3.2 to get the board broken in before seeing what I can do with the board. I simply upped the multiplier to 12. So far I'm much happier with it then with the Abit AW9D-Max I had.

Thanks a bunch for the responses to my questions. The Pioneer 212 was what I was going to get until I read of the 215 coming out anytime now. I think I will wait for those to have the latest and greatest. If the 212 worked I am sure the newer 215 would be the same.

I realize as well that only the 64bit Vista uses all 4GB of memory. Perhaps I should have been more clear on this. I was only wondering if it is harder to get your system stable at higher clocks on a 64 bit OS as opposed to a 32 bit OS due to more ram being used/tested in the 64 bit vs. the 32 bit OS.

I had my Plextor 755sa n the Jmicron controller as I had issues booting from CD with RAID enabled on the ICH9R initially with the board. I just immediately went to the Jmicron as I had many other issues that needed to be worked out before I got around to figuring this out.

I am on 10/05 and just tried the ICH9R again and no luck booting. Any ideas??

I am going to reboot and try another port right now.

Edit: Dee de dee ... I had to select P* Plextor 755 in boot order. LOL. I was just using "CD ROM" before. All is well now.
