Still no bios updates i see, telling ya...they've given up.

New BIOS's are in the works. There is a very active German Gigabyte forum here...http://forum.gigabyte.de

It's of course in German but you might be able to translate with babel fish or soemthing. Anyway, beta F7a is available from this guy:

He works a lot directly with Gigabyte and is a reliable source.

Also, the moderator from Gigabyte is promising more new BIOS's really soon.

I am new to on this forum and i have a problem. I did read almost all topics but i did not saw anyone who had my problem.

My specs are:
DQ6 X38 board Bios F5g
4 GB 2x2GB OCZ Platinum memory 5-4-4-15
74GB Raptor
Leadtek 8800GTS
500GB Samsung Spinpoint
X-Fi sound
Hauppauge tv
Corsair modular power 620W
Antec P182 case
Q6600 G0
Scythe Mugen

Overclocking goes well, i run my system at 3.6GHZ now iand i feel it can be much faster than that.

I set i bios:
9 x 400 FSB
PCIe 100
Manual timings ram 4-4-4-12
Trd 10
Ram 2.00A 800Mhz PC6400
CPU 1.48v
PCIe +0.35V

My system does boot well but when i close my system and i restart it the next day my bios does not like the settings he gives a light click and resets himself to 266x9.

When i boot with default settings after a while i can set the 3.6 values and it boots like charm.

When i set 8 x 400 this also happens but then my system says it runs on 2.13
GHZ 8 x 266.

So my conclusion is, only the FSB resets himselves, all other values stay in the bios.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

The BIOS has a bug with DDR2-800 memory. Set all timings in BIOS manually. Your tRD is very relaxed, your're loosing a lot of performance. Try tRD7 or 8.

I've seen screenshots of F7b which contains loadline calibration option. I hope that F7c will be released next week.

I hope we get loadline collaboration, it would be good to have no vdroop.

Thanks, i will try Trd 7 or 8. I had 7 before but i thought 10 might be the solution for my problem.

I have read about a F7a bios, is this one better then F5g?

I will also try to set all timings manual, i will look at the default values and put them in manually.

I will post my results on the forum.

just reg for this forum...very informative

i have been using the F7d X38-dq6 bios for under a week now, and my system is very stable and fast 333 x 9 @ Vcore = 1.184

It does have another option Loadline calibration to keep Vdroop to a min

I had to email gigabyte and request this bios

So hopefully it will be posted soon on the various support sites. By the way, do the letter after the bios number indicate a Beta bios, or just the newest revision of a shipping bios

A letter normally indicates a beta BIOS.

For me F5i and F6b work best, with F7a I saw a drop in memory performance.

Is there someone on here who also has a Q6600 on this board, 2x2GB RAM and who doesn't have boot problem while overclocking.

If yes, i wonder about your bios settings and which bios you have, i will try F5h too as suggested on here.

i tried dry ice

but cascade the CPU of mine has a cold bug right after -75C boot and it shut down so no go

it is not a board problem but CPU problem

Gigabyte always tends to squeeze out a few extra MHz out of CPUs compared to Asus and other boards for me though so that's always nice heh

Seems that 4*1GB operation with Ballistix 8500 is impossible over 800MHz. One guy from another forum got this reply from Gigabyte support:

Hi,

The reason to make mobos with 4 memories is that it usually works. We have sold a lot more than 50 GA-X38 cards so that 50 people have issues with their combination of memories does not mean all GA-X38 cards are broken. But it can certainly seem that way as it's only those who do have problems that talk about it. For example I haven't received a single mail here saying our products work without a problem (and have no idea what I could help with if someone did send such a mail).

Back to the issue at hand, we have already tried everything that can be tried over mail. For more practical help please contact the reseller.

The problem exists with my X38-DQ6. In order to run 1066 MHz, I had to remove two modules from my mainboard. Gigabyte needs to look into this as I would consider it an engineering issue. That email response from Taiwan does not sound positive. Most people have moved onto 2 x 2GB kits, so they won't see the problem. Telling the customer to pester the reseller on this matter is not a professional answer. The reseller will only RMA the motherboard for another one with the same issue.
