@John.......Hey can you do me a favor and confirm if you can get a Parallel PCI Card to work in the P35 for the Bios programmer?

Maybe I should ask do you have a Parallel PCI Card first?

I just bought this Lava Link Parallel PCI Card and no matter what I try Windows will not see the damn thing end of story! Even tried reformatting and still no go!
The Odd thing is that the EVGA 680i sees the card just fine in Windows but not the DFI

I just noticed too that the Bios Programmer says specifically in Bios Parallel Port needs to be set @ ECP or ECP/EPP and this card is only EPP

Ran this test at stock speeds on 3870's and 115mhz PCI-E frequency.

Small improvement... 17290 (100mhz pci-e) to 17506 (115mhz pci-e). Not bad, but it definitely wont be making it to x38 bandwidth.

And I had a hell of a time increasing the pci-e frequency, anything beyond 120mhz and the intel raid controller wouldnt even pick up any of my hard drives.

I think this is about as high as it will go on this board. 117mhz pci-e frequency used for this.

Not bad at all for this board being limited by the one 4x slot. Definitely a viable option for people looking for a new video card but not wanting to change boards.

The programmers will not work with any add-in card that I'm aware of. The port needs to be native to the chipset. The addressing needs to be assigned at the board level mot through software (Windows).

Anybody having success with 4GB of GMH?? If so can you post a template?

I am having a tough time getting 4GB to work without substantiall errors in Memtest.

Also got my ATI 550 Pro working but still cannot get my X-Fi working. I have the top PCI slot still to try, so I am hoping that works

Thanks John I guess my original statement saying that it should be used in conjunction with a Server/Workstation board and ECC Ram was pretty accurate I suppose.

Oh well now I guess its time to go server and spend allot more money

It will work fine on just about any board as long as there is a native parallel port. Has you created a situation where you need it's capabilities?

I sure hope so! Just ordered one

Very disappointed with Asus quality lately, the boards look and feel so cheap now a days.

I just ordered one as well.

I also ordered a 40MM fan for the NB...Is this a good idea?

I will be using a Ultra 120 Extreme with my E6600.

I am really excited play with this board. I am coming from the DFI ICFX3200....Sorry to say but that board was a pain in the rear...Extremely Hot NB temps limited Overclocking, even with an HR-05, and constant C1 errors until it finally died. Good riddance...

Now that I think about it, I have never owned a non DFI board..

DFI LanParty Venus (Owned for short period of time, 3 months)

With a dual core processor as in your sig you should have a blast. If your processor will cooperate, 530-550 FSB is possible with 24/7 voltages.

I don't know, I am selling that system anyway besides there is a Notation in the manual for the Programmer that says in Red Print .......You Must Configure Parallel Port in Bios for ECP or ECP/EPP!

The Lava Parallel PCI Card only operates at EPP mode!

    Wow no joke?

    500*7 sounds extremely really good.

I could run my CPU at 3.6 Ghz 24/7, but it required too much NB voltage on the other board resulting in 67 C temps while priming, even with an active 80MM fan on it. Remounted it about 10 times, and re applied AS5 every time.

But any way, do you recommend using the optional heatpipe, and also replacing the TIM with AS5 on the NB, SB, and PWM?

    How effective is the heatpipe?

Yeah, don't know what I was thinking. The programmer requires a native onboard port. Anything will work. What I usually use is an old K6 based Abit board and I program more then just BIOS chips with it.

@ John........No worries I have solved my dilemma with the Parallel Port! I forgot that my Alienware 7700M had a Parallel Port on it and its configurable in Bios so I'm in Business

Well thank God for small miracles and I am still getting my $5000.00 worth out of that Laptop and its plenty fast with P4 670 3.8ghz , 2gb Ram , 2 80gb in Raid 0

Holy crap, I checked temps in smart guardian after a day or so folding, and saw my chipset temp at 69 degrees! PWM temps were also a little high.

Is this way too high? My NB voltages were at a mere 1.5. I'm installing the transpiper now to lower the PWMs, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to cool the NB, as it's blocked from the front by the RAM, from the bottom by the graphics card, and from the top by the Ultra-120..

Put a 60mm 20cfm fan over the PWM area and it will drop the temps on both by about 7-9c

I share your pain, I wasn't getting as high as you on the NB, but I get early 60's for sure with 1.6v while priming for hours on end. SG still showed the temperature in green, not red so I figured I was ok. Getting a fan in that area to cool is a chore to say the least with 4 sticks of ram, an 8800U with HR-11 installed and the Ultra-120 Extreme. I may look into getting something for the PWM as well to see if it helps out both temps of the PWM and NB as I have heard of this happening many times. System is stable regardless of temps however.

Yes. The positioning can be a little funky. I wire-tied a 40mm Evercool on the CPU side of the NB, I see about a 3C drop to 45C (ambient is 28). You might consider doing it for the PWM too (42C with the fan, all measured with Smartguardian FWIW)

Short of pulling the heat pipes off has anyone had any luck or have any advice on securing something a little more substantial (such as an MCX159 CU or an HR-05) on top of the NB heat sink short of thermal adhesiving something on top permanently? I get nervous strapping something so top heavy and conductive so close to the video card
