I had a week of misery with the "other" X38 board, the Asus flavor. I finally RMA'd it. I don't think the x38 and more importantly the BIOSes are ready for prime time. I'm almost thinking of picking up the IP35 Pro as a hold over until there's really a reason to need PCI-E 2.0. I have the EVGA 680i board now and I'm sick of the crappy nVidia drivers, in particular the SATA drivers.
What do you guys think? Are you happy with your DQ6s?
before you switch, the gigabyte board has its quirks too, every board does, the question is will those quirks bother you??? problems i have found on this board....
- memory bandwidth is low compared to the asus maximus board......
- vcore once over 1.5 you have to have either 1.55 or 1.6 no in between, just doesnt stay between those values when in load, but none the less i use 1.6v for my 24/7 vcore and temps are good, cpu's are very hard to mess up.
- 4:5 memory divider sometimes boots, sometimes doesnt, only F3 bios boots, but memory bandwidth with that bios is LOW!
- OCCT issue, present on this board and the maximus, now this is only with vista x64, i havnt tried any other OS to confirm this isnt OS related....
Good luck.![]()
Hi all.
Good thread.
Ive had the X38-DQ6 for about 6 weeks now, and i think im starting to somewhat figure it out.
I've noticed that,- especially with the F3 bios, the most important bios-setting in terms of stability and wether youll be able to boot the bios successfully or not, is the TrD. Ive found that, when overclocking FSB beyond 400mhz, this setting has to be set to 8, irregardless of memory-overclock in general. Anything less, and the bios will reset itself on next reboot.
I get the feeling the board is having trouble correctly identifying my ram. Sounds to me like alot of people are seeing this problem. My system for example, is not stable on default optimized bios settings, because it tries running memory at 1066 with a TrD below 8.
The options for robust graphics and performance can both be set to the highest setting with no decrease in stability as far as i can tell. This is all with F3 bios.
I think I've found a sweetspot for my system, wich is a G0 E6750 and Crucial Ballistix 8500.
475*8, and memory at 1:1. System is Orthos stable for 24 hours at 4-4-4-4.
This is aircooled with Scythe Ninja revB with a SilenX 120mm 122CFM fan. vcore at 1.58, memory at 2.28. I only up NB at the lowest setting and keep the other voltages on standard.
Has anyone been able to run this stable at 4ghz or above with the E6750 ? It seems im hitting a wall. No matter the vcore i just wont be stable at 4ghz and above. Any ideas welcome.
Some feedback to other users. Ive seen a few people getting anxious about their 3ghz cpu "only" beeing 2ghz in the OS. This is due to speedstep. It will jump up to 3ghz as soon as theres sufficient load. Ofcourse, you can just disable the speedstep feature in bios.
hello i'am new o/cer and i have some questions.
I have gigabyte dq6-x38 q6600(g0) with ultra extreme 120 and 4gb ram trascent at 800Mhz.
I have.
DDR2 +0.2
PCI-E +0.2
FSB +0.15
CPU 1.38125
My problem is that i can't found the right voltages to make my system stable on 3.4Ghz. I run orthos and after 5 or 6 minutes system crash. I don not have problem with temps, in idle is 40-43 and load 60-62.
1.Can anyone with this system tell me the right settings on bios?
2.Witch bios is the best for my mobo?
3.Is better to have multiplier to 8 or 9?
4.Witch of the following voltages is the most important to improve my fsb?
Thanks!

Can someone plz tell me which value in picture are the "TrD" value
Think I found it, "Static tRead Value".
Now I can use "extreme" as performance enhance, only standard before.
Changed it from 5 to 8.

How much is the vdrop? isn't there any option in the bios that stops vdrop like asus?
For your information, these o/c tips have already been provided for your and everyone's benefit.
Maybe you should read the whole thread start to finish friend.
I know it's becoming a looooong thread, but there's good info to be found and plenty of bios settings info for just about all config's.

Does anyone have problem with the X38-DQ6 ...with the sound card...It seems that the board generate electrical noise though all audio ports it can be heard only on the headphones but is annoying ...can anyone tell me what tot do to remove that noise?I have:
Q6600@3.2 ghz 2x1gb mushkin 8500(996535) enermax liberty ELT500AWT-DXX and 8800gts(768) Gainward is there anything that could make the noise except the Mainboard pleae help I like to watch movies with the headphones thank
Nice to hear you persisted on OCCT RAM, so it seems stable on Vista64 too
Great news, OCCT in RAM mode should be really the way to go for people before claiming stability. It is not unreal test like TAT, as errors in OCCT RAM, soon or later will hang your games/encoding software...
And very nice OC by the way, but a bit high on the vcore. What are your temperatures on Small FFT?

Yeah bro, its a relief getting my ram to pass that test i gotta say, the vcore is ok with me, the temps are....first 2 cores idle at 40c the other 2 are at 34.....loads the first 2 are 65-70c the other 2 are 60-65...........overall i am much more pleased with the gigabyte board, much more than the maximus formula.
