The chip is freaking expensive as it is now.
    That was all my point.

One question, how come I'm GPU limited? Is there a better video card (I have 8800 Ultra Overclocked) out there ATM? Or you mean it because I'm not running an SLI config?
    Sorry about that..misunderstanding.

But in regards to limitations: basically with the amount of processing power you have right now with your Q6600 it can handle more processing than your gpu needs. If you were to add another card to the mix and increase your gpu processing then of course you'll see an increase because then the processor can be fully used. And then at that point the situation flips and depending on how fast you clock your cards you might have to clock your cpu more just to keep up with them.

So in a nutshell by using one card and switching to the QX9650 there really won't be any performance differences. But when you add another Ultra the cpu can be used more efficiently and on top of that you have more gpu power = more performance!

    I hope that makes sense.

Totally makes sense! Thanks for clarifying man...

I don't know for a moment yesterday, before my friend came with the Yorkfield chip, I was hovering on a e-retailer store, and making circles with the mouse pointer around the CHECK OUT button for a QX9650 :-)

OMFG!! US$1175... Yeah I have money saved to pay that much. But there is a difference between spending money and burning it

No wonder that the overclocking capabilities of Yorkfield got me drooling!
I mean 4.5Ghz on air with the stock cooler, I mean how much can I get with my Lapped Ultra-120 Extreme? AWESOME! I started picturing myself lapping that Yorkfield...

I don't know I guess I got mad at Crytek CEO for saying a bunch of BS lies about Crysis and CPU scaling capabilities.

I think my best option is just sit and wait till January. See how that crazy price comes down, and if indeed Crytek can patch the game to make good use of CPU threads.

Hmmm. Something has been messed up when i changed Bios for the 601...
i noticed that it couldnt get stable at 4ghz anymore...that has been ROCK solid 16H primestable before..... now it BSOD first seconds of orthos..

sooo i thought, well crap bios i will put back the old one...but....... nooo the problem still occurs, and i can do nothing about it? wtf

what has happend? it usually are fine with 1.53v for 4ghz, now it doesnt matter, 1.53 , 1.60, changed Vdimm if that has changed, tried every setting, no diffrence....but at 3.9 it will do just fine with the same voltage..

Im in the thaughts of my PSU are too week? X38 draws more power the 965, and according to the reading in everest, yeah i know its not 100%, i got a IDLE 11.76, and when i start orthos it sinks to 11.65-11.70.

Still, its stable 3.9, same voltage... eerr... annoying it is

Well, crap it seems I'vejust turned into the dark side of the force.

My wife just told me she got me a QX9650 as a christmas present. Right after my friend tried the sample he got in my place!! SHEIT! F....SHEIT!

First time in our 5 years of marriage she actually buy me a piece of hardware.
This means we are going to make what husband and wife do in bed,A LOT. I actually feel very ENERGETIC after this surprise. I'm going to plug this thing again on my mobo on the weekend.

Anyway, coming back to our post... I think 601 is making sacrifices for Kentsfield CPUs favoring the Yorkfield. I don't know, got to test it overclocked. I've run my friends Yorkfield @ STOCK, to compare it to my Q6600 overclocked.

    I didn't find any problems for the Q6600 @ 3Ghz with 601.

Maybe so you say you can'tpost at 367? NO question, we don't want to get into a FSB wall here.

Hi everyone new to this forum, I just got this motherboard and I will be getting a QX9650, my question is will it post with the shipping bios so I can EZ-Flash to 0601 bios which from what I read is the only bios right now for the QX9650 or do I need a different cpu and flash with that? Thanks for any information....

It sounds like one of your bios settings has changed on both versions that you had set differently before maybe.

You better not let her see the post where you spoke badly of the poor little 9650. You have a nice wife there.

It says right on the box "45nm cpu compatable" so I assume it will.

    Hmmm....

    Try this:

set your Ai Transaction Booster to auto

Lower your CPU PLL voltage to no more than 1.6 (only because you have it set way too high and it can kill your cpu)

Raise your NB voltage to maybe 1.6v-1.65v

set Clock over voltage to auto

to add a tiny bit more of stability:
Change your CPU GTL reference voltage to .63
Change your NB GTL reference voltage to .67

**also! remember that since your getting BSOD's it might not even be your hardware...might be software. Which BSOD error are you getting?

Ok, appreciate you answer, will try now and edit this thread with how it goes..

will check what BSOD it gets... its NOT ant IRQ error anyway...

EDIT: now i were goin to check the BSOD and started Orthos, now it havent died in 10 mins ...ehhhhhhh
same speed same vcore, straaaange seems like its working, im gonna check bios and se how my settings are again...
Are 11.65 on 12v rail to low? in gonna get a 8800GT soon, new psu? gonna get DA750 i think.

EDIT: 20 mins, im gonna leave it on for a while and check reaaaly strange this.. i made some changes last time, and then i didnt want to test it couse it just BSOD hehe...well well

Are 11.65 on 12v rail to low? in gonna get a 8800GT soon, new psu? gonna get DA750 i think.

EDIT: 20 mins, im gonna leave it on for a while and check reaaaly strange this.. i made some changes last time, and then i didnt want to test it couse it just BSOD hehe...well well
Ya your 12v rail is getting kinda low there. You will definitely have some instability with your new 8800GT if you stick with that PSU. Time to change!

I'm glad that everything is running better...hopefully it'll stay that way!

didnt know that PLL actually made the CPU worse, just that it helped in higher speeds and FSB..

Thanks for any information....
0702 is the latest optimized BIOS for this board and includes numerous enhancements for Yorkfield but 0601 is a good start.
