Im pleasantly surprised by ATI/AMD stockpiling for launch: people (rightly) say that they cant find the ATI cards in stores...the launch is tomorrow.

nVidia somehow got it a bit wrong this time- normally their launches are tangible. Have nVidia really been wasting their time?

Then why does no one have them in stock. I would have bought two by now, but because they didn't ship enough, I'm going ATI. Just because it agitated me.

one thing oyu can be sure of is that this whol ething is no accident. whether or not it was s good decision is yet to be seen, but no accident and not due to lack of ability to bring the card to market.

Nvidia is definitely preparing for the G92 8800GTS launch at the beginning of December, the 8800GT is simply to get rid of the low performance parts. If the price for the G92 8800GTS is somewhere around 350usd with Crysis bundled, one seriously need to reconsider about purchasing 2 3870xt.

Is it still a certainty the G92 GTS is coming out?

I know that in their Nov. conference with investors, they said no new product to beat the 8800Ultra but a G92 GTS would certainly do that. Then again, Nvidia has never liked to admit a new GTS being faster than a previous Ultra of relatively same gen.

except that there is a much bigger market for 8800gt, so nvidia would be foolish to be concentrating more on a high end part, as most people would never spend over 250 on a graphics card... great news for amd/ati, since they really need a win.

I just want something that will work--better then a HD 2600XT and 8600GT but not costing more then $150 or so. Anyways--if the HD 3850 really retails for $200, maybe I'd stretch a budget to grab a better card.

Nope, I think the supply issue is intentional. There is no way nvidia wanted to release the GT at those clocks or that price. It's totally destroys the GTS market and the GTX doesn't look that great a buy now either. But nvidia hasn't found anything to replace them with. I've heard of no issues yields, memory supply and the PCB is cheaper and easier to make. So where are they?

If buying a GTS/GTX is now stupid, and you can't find a GT what are you going to do? Nvidia may have screwed us and themselves.

There's no 8800GTX shrink planned...after the GTS shrink they start ramping up the D9 series. They'd be stupid to put the G92 on the GTX anyway, seeing as how it'd just lose too much bandwidth in the switch, being as it's only a 256-bit chip.

As for the supposed "shortage"...Why is anyone surprised? Remember the 7900GT? Launched at $299 and for the first few weeks they were impossible to find?

I'd have figured we've seen this happen enough times to expect it by now. I wouldn't be surprised if stores all the sudden are flooded with them on the day of the 38x0 launch though.
