My first board didn't work out. Ironically, a lot of the issues I had with my 680i went away when I rebuilt it. NB is running 10 degrees cooler, maybe because I switched the RAM and it's running .2 volts lower, or it's just a fluke.
I think I'm going to wait a little while for the bios to mature and maybe new H/W revisions and I'll try again. I can't think of enough reasons to switch feature and performance wise. I'm gun shy with Asus as this is the 2nd board I've used that had weird startup / reboot issues, and falsely tested negative RAM that was good in other boards.

I would definitley RMA and trial a replacement motherboard. A quick perusal of other forums confirms that it is more the rule rather than exception that X38 boards are presenting a multitude of teething problems consequent of immature bios; hence, there is no guarantee that a competitors product will not present equal or greater challenge than that which you are presently experiencing.

Hi everyone, First build here !
Maximus Formula SE
QX6850 1333 fsb (333)
Kingston ddr2 800 (400)
How do I OC the cpu to get the 333 to 400 like the mem. I dont want to run mem a 667 if I can safely OC the cpu to kik up the fsu ???????????????
anyone and everyone thank you in advance.
I actually returned it, will wait for the 780i or the Abit x38, wich ever comes first........it was a good board in the beginning....then all of a sudden the problems started :/ i have a feeling x38 isnt too great with DDR2.....very picky.
I just like to waste money. And it places more laod on the chipset, thereby stressing the board beyond typical use...seems like a good idea, to me.
Set FSB speed to 400mhz, and adjust ramspeed in bios as well. you may have to set the FSB STRAP to get the ramspeed you like.

Vista 64 has matured alot and is very stable, looks like 64 bit is finally going to pick up in 2008.
Man, seriously, if i don't waste it, my wife or kids will.
but most users complaining of issues with Vista are using x64. I got about 30 gigs sitting here, so it's more of a waste to see 'em collect dust...I origanally planned on x64, but app support still sucks, imho. both came in vista box...just gotta install when it's ready, or when i find replacement apps.

Isuggest you read through the entire thread first. then, you'll see posts shong what people have set for thier own speeds.
you must change the setting, then test to ensure stabilty, then maybe make more changes. this can take a long time...usually i spend several weeks on each board, then buy a new one. I just enjoy the testing part
anyway. read the thread, find the setting template that's in some of the posts, copy it down in notepad, and then post back here, with what you think you should chnage...then we can tell you YES!!! or NO!!!...very many settings there, and it's alot to explain each one...and what you change will depend on how your stuff responds to these changes.
Welcome to XS, BTW.

Anyone get any better luck with that new BIOS? Divider improvements?
Lets hear it.
Yes, OCCT does that. It is a code in the generated error.dat file. In the last betas, it is temporarily thread0x.txt files, one thread for each core...
Of course, if system reboots, than no code generated.
Prime95 doesn't give you any code too, just saying calculation error.
It is easy, just use a hair dryer, and blow hot air on the heatsink for about 20 sec. The Heatsink should come effortless. If it doesn't, just reapply the hairdryer until the heatsink is well hot and comes effortless
