Well a 1Gb 8800GT is also going to be released. Still though i think for crysis at those res, just wait for series 9.

theres no word on when that will be though and some people (like myself) don't want to wait till Q1 2008 (rumored) for it. so if anything i'm waiting for the G92 GTS 1GB from eVGA and if nvidia releases their new highend in Feb 2008 i'll still be able to step-up to it.

CRT ftw, even on this 7900GTO it's barely playable @ 1152x864 very high with only shadow quality and postprocessing set to medium with no AA (GF7 doesn't support HDR+AA anyways) and doesn't look so bad.Sure would suck to sit with a 24" LCD.

I guess with a 8800GT I'll be able to play at same res or possibly 1280x960 with very high + AA4x.![]()

Tell me. What good is "100Hz gaming" when you can't game at 100Hz?
You aren't pushing 100fps in Crysis, that's for sure.

Sure, but in low quality.![]()
But somehow I feel Crysis runs unusually smooth despite a low FPS, 50 FPS feels almost like 100 FPS in some other games. Would be nice with 40 fps minimum though, that's whereabout I think for me where the limit goes what I'd consider as perfect gameplay and somewhat unsmooth gameplay.
Nah Crysis is a game I want good IQ in too but many other games I'd rather use low quality to get high fps instead, like UT series is a must @ 100 FPS for me, I prefer low quality in UT3 demo anyday altho it runs at a quite steady 40~50 FPS with high quality settings @ 1280x960.

i was over at my friend's house to try out the crysis demo and also pick it up so i wouldn't have to download it.
he has opty 165 oc'ed to 2.6ghz/1GB/17" lcd w/8800GTX SC... that bastard. anyway he was running it on medium settings w/8xAA (yeah, my friend don't know jack about how game settings work. he thought it was like source games with small performance hit
). sure it looked good and everything but the screen was just too small for my liking. when i got home later that day, i ran it on my system. its just a totally different experience on a larger, wider screen even without AA.

same deal for me, I won't change my 930SB for a glossy wide tv-like screen right now. I'd prefer to buy a 4/3 1600*1200 lcd 20" or 21" but there is almost none at an affordable price with very good specs.
and playing at 1280*960 isn't a problem for me, even if it's surely more beautiful at 1920*1200 it requires so much gfx power...
I've been waiting for things like Canon SED or Nec LED screens, very promising technologies outperforming lcd by far in many points, but it looks like these screens will never show theiring ass to the market someday.

I have gamed at 60, 75, 85, and 100Hz. I understand the difference in mouse response and fluid play. However most games feel just fine to me locked at 60, therefore I don't have a problem with modern LCDs. This may be personal preference but I do not feel hindered at all playing at 60Hz - which is actually what the game developers design games for. Since physics calculations and other things are run at certain fractions of the framerate, some games behave differently and can give you an edge playing at 100. Quake 3 comes to mind, not sure about newer titles.
Technically you aren't restricted to 1920x1200. My BenQ FP241W is actually very flexible in this regard - it becomes essentially a 22" if I wanted to run 1680x1050 and its centered in the screen with black area around it. Sure I can stretch it to fill, but why? It just ends up looking like garbage.

unfortunately, my 24" can't do 1:1 pixel matching so if i set it to a lower res than native, it stretches.![]()
sometimes i feel like getting a 26" 720p HDTV to replace my dell as my main and have it as a secondary.

Ill be receiving the Palit 8800GT in the next few days, it has a aftermarket cooler and it has a 3 phase power http://www.hardwarezone.com/news/view.php?id=9055&cid=6.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

Cooler: Xigmatek S1283(Terrible mounting system for AM2/3)

downscaling without adding black stripes in order to use only a portion of the lcd matrix cannot look anything else than garbage, interpolation related. that's the problem. I'd prefer having a real quality full screen mode.
Anyway, I'd prefer a 4/3 ratio, I'm not keen on the 16/10 aspects.

For those looking for these. Best Buy seems to have the BFG OC brands in stores. There were 4 on the shelf at a Best Buy near me last night for $279.

Prices have started dropping quite a bit now, it's a miracle I see the Club 3D 8800GT card listed for even 221 EUR here in Finland (of course not in stock though). But that's a price I never expected to see here in this country where all hardware prices are like minimum $40 expensier. Hope the price stays cuz I'd really wanna see if the Palit version is worth waiting for first.
I wonder exactly how long we have to wait until the availability is even decent, I don't feel like testing my luck picking from a random site.
