I agree/ I've ran 2 overclocked x1950pros in xfire with an overclocked cpu 7 120 mm fans 3 hdd etc. etc... on an ocz 520w powerstream with no issues.

Hmmm yeah, I'm idling at 50c on one card and 47c on the other, perhaps it is heat... maybe I have bad contact or something on the cores. If it isn't likely the PSU, I'd be quite happy, I reaaaallllyyyyy was not planning on dropping the extra cash right now . Do those temps sound high? My ambient temperature is normal, maybe 75F roughly.

lol i did that after reading the fugger thread also...
i got 48c idle and 64c max after 5mins atitool thingy...stayed at 64c for a long time so thats about it.
    stock fan at 90%

um im only at 700/1750/950 now.
mine hung in the nfspeed pro demo with 720/1800/950
the 90nm chips sure can take a lot more temperature.

    27c room temp.
    needs that v2 i s'pose.

I don't know how you can live with this fan at 90%. These things are many times louder than the GTS...

Artifact free in ATI Tool I could do 676 on the core. I'm going to see if I can improve the temps, max I saw was 78c.

yes the fan is audible at 90%
ive turned it back downto auto cos of the 120 fan. now.

Dropped temp 10c and no change in the overclock before artifacting. Seems we aren't really held back by the temperature. I'm stuck at 682/1705/2006 before seeing white dots in ATI Tool.

I dropped the temps to 29C and was able to run 800mhz on stock voltage. I am currently at 850mhz core with temps of 29-32C.

    Motherboard is IP35 Pro.

Best I can do in a closed case on air is 66c loaded.

This can actually play Crysis on High at 1920x1200!

I can't wait until I have the hardware to run 4xAA though, this game could really use it.

there seems to be points of diminishing returns for each of the clocks (core/shader/mem) when maxing them all out together (i think)... so it might be wiser to take data incrementing each of the clks individually using 3dmark06 to see what portion of the score increases.. then see if you can find a happy medium for all three.

example, i know i can clock my core over 770 and my shaders over 1944, and my mem up to 1064 with stock cooler, but using all these together might result in a lower score then using lower clocks. I'm currently taking data for each clk at each increment, individually, to see if i can find the best combo for my card.

did you try just running one card? if you can run it at 720mhz fine with a single card, then you know its your psu.

for PSUs, i would still stick with corsair. anything from their lineup from 620w and up should be fine for a while. with the next wave of hardware, everything is shrinking (cpu/gpu dies are shrinking) so you don't need a 1kw psu to power you computer.

if you really want to test to see if temp is limiting you, get a house fan and point it at your case with side panel off

I also have a 8800GT. It isnt overclocking very well, atleast not the way people said it would.

The core maxes out @ about 734mhz, memory 1080 and the shader *drumroll* 1674....

Maybe the its the heat thats crippling the overlock, with the fan @ 60% i get about ~75c loaded with these clocks. Im waiting for the hr03 gt version and then we'll se if I can push it further.
I was thinking that nividia intentionally lowered the vcore/vmem on these cards so the woulnd't beat both GTX and ULTRA. I mean, you can see there's alot of potential but it feels like the clocks are held back by low voltage.

    Oops, saw your post late.
I ended up getting a ocz gamexstream 700 from clubit I believe.
It's not modular, but it should be up to the task of future gaming, except for tri/quad slis.

Oh there is no doubt the heat is killing the overclock. You have to think of it this way. that heatsink is one piece. If the gpu heats it up, then the memory is hotting and everything else is hotter.
The gts has a much better heatsink and therefore the overclock is not that much different than a watercooled overclock, just hotter.
In this case, you NEED a different heatsink or watercooling to sustain good temps and overclock with stability

can anybody who own the card be kind enough to measure this gap for me? and also tell me the diameter of these holes? it would help me a lot if this is at least ø 2mm and 49-50 mm min in order I can re-use my hm wb fix

Yeah, I do have extra cooling... just surprised it won't get me very far at all it seems. My heatsink is basically a GTS/GTX-one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...ter+VGA+Cooler

On the other hand, I noticed I dropped my temps by about 5c idle on each of the cards just by moving the case a bit further from the wall :p... which makes sense since it was about 8 inches, moved it to aboiut 14 inches now . They're idling at 45c/46c respectively...

EDIT: Just ran ATItool for a few minutes, the load temp is not hitting quite as high, either ... just did it with 734/1836 core/shader, 2000mem and it was lower than KO 675/1950 core/mem was before .

Did those Thermaltake ones fit fine? And what's the load temp in atitools?

Mine starts artifacting right at the same spot - 1690 is clean for me but 1705 starts showing a few white dots. That is with the core linked in Rivatuner. At that point the core is at only 676mhz so I'm going to try unlinking them.

EDIT: Unlinked I can do 720 on the core before running into problems. Seems right around the average.

I had to pull off the molex connector for the default fan, and bend the pins downward, then cover them with electrical tape, on the board itself, then it fit perfectly.

I just ran 3dmark06 and a few loops of the Crysis GPU bench without issue at 734core/1836shader/2000mem . Load temp with ATItool is hovering around 59/60c, idle is 45/46c (card1/card2). Gonna go for more now...

EDIT: 1890 shader doesn't lock, but it causes a "display driver stopped responding" error after about a minute of ATItool, until I turn off 3d view, every few seconds... trying 756core/1836shader/2000mem now.

EDIT2: 6 minutes of ATItool @ 756core/1836shader/2000mem, 61c/64c each card load. Gonna go test Crysis out and see if it works .

740core/1836shader/2100mem runs a treat in Crysis GPU bench, just did several loops without issue, and ATItool for several minutes also. Not sure if I'm being heat-limited really, since the ATItool load temp was around 65/67c each card at these speeds... could just be the cards don't have enough volts :p.

Yeah I had ATI tool pass 30 mins, then 10 mins into Crysis screen goes to crap and locks, for me so far Crysis has been a good test.

    3DMark06 Score 13285 3DMarks

    SM 2.0 Score 6177 Marks

    SM 3.0 Score 5802 Marks

    CPU Score 3242 Marks

    E6850 @ 400x9 = 3600
    2GB DDR2 @ 1:1.25 Ratio = 1000 5-5-5-15 2T
    PNY 8800GT @ 708/1690/2006

    ATI Tool artifact free
    Full load 76c

Can run Crysis on all High (Postprocessing Low) at a very playable 30fps (Vsync) at 1920x1200. The game is very smooth at these settings and the lighting is a lot better than when on Medium which I was limited to with my 8800GTS 640.

The same settings drive 3DMark2001 to a nice score of 63,558.

How big an effect does the CPU speed have on 3dmark06? I'm running the SLI GT's at 742/1836/2100 (core/shader/mem) and am only getting around 15.6k with a Q6600 @ 3.15ghz, 350FSB 5-6-6 timings . Since I just got this 680i SLI I haven't messed much with the CPU/RAM end of things yet. Does it really make that huge a difference in it? I'm also running my normal antivirus/antispyware programs/etc. in the background, so maybe that's it?

I was able to let it run for a good 15 minutes before I got bored and shut it off (Crysis GPU bench) at these speeds .
