I just purchased the Maximus Formula along with a Q6600 and 2x2GB of that sexy GSkill ram. I hope for once luck will be on my side and get a decent batch of parts and get a good OC w/o pulling my hair out.

That certainly wouldn't be much fun if everything just worked great and clocked like crazy, lol! In all seriousness that should be a great combo of parts!

indeed. I always get unlucky with CPU's that just don't OC well these days. I miss the old days with 100mhz FSB and P2/P3's that OCed like mad. I'm just hoping I don't have to spend a better portion of a month to achieve a decent OC.

I'm in the same situation as you Maglin... I'll most likely purchase a Q6600 along with a Maximus Formula SE with some good 2gig Crucial 8500's... Just hope I'll get good parts to overclock![]()

Ouch I was hoping for an FSB on par with my BlackPearl but so far I cant even get 460 FSB stable on air
I really like the bios and other cool features but am leaning back towards my BlackPearl again...what a disappointment reading this thread has been. I was really hoping others had solved the FSB walls but it sounds like water wont help that much either...

I'm sure if we give it a little time, Asus will hopefully work out the bugs with new bios versions. Speaking of.... Can anyone confirm whether 0602 proves to fix anything on this board?

Well 5+ hours OCCT blend stable using the following settings:
9x400MHz
PCI-E: 110MHz
DDR2-1003MHz
5-5-5-9-3-42-6-3
8-3-5-4-6-4-6
DRAM Static Rd Control: Disabled
Transaction Booster: Disabled
Relax Lvl: 1
CPU: 1.48V (1.46V)
CPU PLL: Auto (1.648V)
NB: 1.59V (1.616V)
DRAM: 2.10V (2.208V)
FSB Term: Auto (1.456V)
SB: 1.10V (1.136V)
Loadline: Enabled
SB 1.5V: 1.55V
Everything else set to auto.
I'm still rather suprised that it took 0.11V on the NB in order to get a stable 400MHz on this board, even w/ DRAM Static Rd Control disabled. I did the same clocks with DRAM Static Rd enabled and 1.5V on the NB w/ my P5K-D.
Also, while in the grip of boredom, I removed the heatsink over the NB/SB and replaced the NB HS w/ a HR-05 IFX. I was happy to see my NB temps drop down to 36 degrees idle @ 1.62V as read in the BIOS & PC Probe II. Definitely, if not water cooling, rip that bugger off. The heatpipes actually separate into two pieces so you can still cool the Mosfets.

OK got mine. Semi-impressed so far. 400*9 no issue with my Ballistix Tracer 1066 set to 1066. Now I know my 6850 is 4GHz stable from running it in my 680i. Trouble is, when I go to boot at 500*8 with the RAM set 1:1, the board won't post. Sits at DET DRAM. Remove one stick and it boots. Memtested both sticks passed 100%. Tried all four slots, still no go with 2 sticks at 500*8. 1 stick boots to windows fine, Orthos OK, CPU stable. Just can't boot with both sticks and this is very frustrating. This is with 0505 BIOS, going to try 0602 later this evening. If I am paying $268 for a mobo, it damn well better boot with any RAM I choose at any divider as well. So I hope new BIOS revisions keep coming.

Gotta test this new bios.
Any things broken thistime?
yeah, I'm starting to wonder about that. I passed 30 minutes with OCCT so I have to think if my RAM was bad that would have caught it. Can anyone recommend another RAM test that I can use to isolate the FSB / RAM and make sure it's stable?
I'm really glad I found this forum!![]()
if anyone else had false Memtest86+ 1.70 errors please chime in
My board is not here yet but I would like to know if you can control the fan speed in the bios when pluged in a fan header on the board? Just needed to know before I spend $$ on a fan controller.
Thanks![]()
@Renegade, What was the highest OC you got with 2 sticks of ram on the board? And what brand of ram are you using.

Is there actually any way to control CHA and OPT fan RPMs on this Maximus board through the BIOS or do I have to buy a fan controller?

You mean those settings that only show up when you enable the q-fan thingy? In that case I will try again.

some are q-fan, some are ratio, some are both.
Hi guys,
I don't know if this might be a SATA driver issue, but I notice that when installing XP it takes like 45 minutes to do the install. It seems to hang after it does the restart after formatting/copying files. And when I install Vista I notice it takes a long time to startup. Hangs for a long time on the blank screen before the vista logo. This has been like then sence I built the new system in my sig.
Thanks
Shawn

OK, time for the bad news. I put the 680i back in and started running the "bad" modules through Memtest one at a time, and they are testing OK. SO... looks like the board is bad and has to be RMA'd
I was suspicious also because everytime I hit F10 to save settings in the BIOS, it would just shut down and not start back up again. I would have to turn the Power Supply off and get all the power in the board to drain before I could turn
back on. Even Asus thinks its probably a bad board.
