Sadly, not doing any benching at the moment too many variables with this bios too much time to be wasted, thanks I'd rather wait for a newer than 505.
Wait, so the IHS came off with it as well?? Holy cow, I'll just water cool mine, I have a loop anyways.

I am really liking this board, nice, quick and very stable so far and a much nicer experience than my my old P5K deluxe that ate raid arrays for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Was well worth the wait and hassle for me to get one .

Lol, I can't believe that I am going to be this lazy and ask for recommended settings but I am getting old nowadays and the bios is starting to look a little too DFI-like for my tastes to be honest. Tweak time is very limited too for the next few weeks as well . Apart from fixing the cpu (1.28V selected and left at that for now), ram voltage (2.2V) and switching the damper on, I have left everything else at auto @333fsb. Lovely even temp spread across the cores of, only 1c difference, 19c ambient and cores at C0=23,C1=13,C2=24,C3=24. I would like to go right up to 400fsb and leave it at that, but with the minimum of 'fumbling in the dark' . I am not one for overvolting either, I would normally sit here and tweak the voltages down to the stable min.

If one of the old school could just give me some quick base settings to stick in and go from there I would really appreciate it!

    Cheers,

    Nick

It is quite scary how many posts I have seen across the web where people have managed to pull the slug clean off the northbridge using the prising technique with this board. 1 plum on clunk.org used so much force that he pulled the NB off the motherboard........

Straight out of the box, I managed to 'pop' the southbridge one fairly easily but I could tell that the NB was going to take quite a bit of pressure and I wasn't happy with that. I heated it from a foot or so with a hairdryer for a minute and it came off easily enough, but a fair bit of the putty-like stuff was still on the heatslug. Not a problem, just a 5-10min job to clean up properly. The strength of the putty was very impressive tbh.

So what does everyone think a "safe" max temp of CPU, NB, and SB while priming would be?

In the middle of the day when it is the hottest I sometimes reach 71c, and I'm on water. It's just too hot in this room at that time.

When I'm gaming and stressing the cpu with normal activities, it seems to max out around 55 though. Idles about 40.

Anything under 72C is considered in spec for a Q6600 I believe. But I would not want to go there for long.

Chipsets I believe are in the 90C range...could be mistaken. I need to browse Intel for the real scoop.

I'm abviously no expert on the subject but I've been asking that same question (Max temps for quads and C2D) and was told that the new quads can saftly handle upwards of 100C and that newer C2D can handle upwards of 85C. With that said though most people seem to be in the 60C-80C range with their Quads whether on air or water under full-load? Like CyberDruid said I think between 70C-80C is a resonable full-load temps, not great but resonable.

Thank you for that information. I was getting a little worried since I have been reading in a lot of different places that Intel says the max temp is 62c.

90c for chipsets? Sounds very very hot to me, but just like Roger_D25 says, "I am no expert on the subject".

I think I found a good answer to all these temperature questions.

    http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=525629

Basically from what I understand is that this thread is implying that 75c is a safe temp (core temp reading) at max load.

each cpu has different default votlage. this is VID. Mine is 1.2375v for L725A838 B3, and 1.25v for L644Gxxx, both Q6600's. neither goes as high as his does, so this is not really indicitive of performance across different revisions of the same chip, however, my 1.2375v goes much further than my 1.25v.

Crap, your absolutly right CaDaveca, I should have looked back before posting my question! I usually try not to ask "Those" type of questions if I can help it, especially since the information was already posted! Also thanks for posting what the VID actually means, your did a much better job articulating it than I would have, lol!

With that said thanks GAR for posting that info once again for me, much apprecaited!

Mondo, you could mount the TRUE so that it blows upwards, from bottom to top, as opposed to from front to back? That should give enough room I think?
but but.... that would hurt performance

I just remounted my TRUE so it now goes bottom to top in my Antec 900 and It dropped my CPU temps by 6*c and my northbridge temp by about 4*c (must have been a dead spot)!!!

Will get before and after pics once Imageshack stops being crap... :P

That is correct, yes. I believe CoreTemp adjusts the TJunction, depending on the CPU, but SpeedFan does not and you have to manually set a 15*c offset in the settings for it...?
