I never read that before. If you have a link quoting them I would appreciate it. Also, if it was remotely true it makes no sense to optimize a game for 64-bit when majority of people use 32-bit. It simply makes no sense...majority of people are not going to pay again to upgrade from vista 32 to 64 just to play one game specific for vista 64. Specially if they are happy with vista 32.

Yup just that 64-bit seems to have issuse on peoples rigs but i was getting slightly better performance with it, before it crashed. DX9 or DX10 didn't matter. As well mostly DX9 and DX10 same performance.

So far, the demo is shaping up to not be a dx10 game built from the ground up. People are reporting better performance using dx9. Only time will tell if this also holds true for the retail version.

GS: When we talked last year it was said that Crysis will ship with 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Is 64-bit still in the box? Does it offer any kind of performance improvements as predicted?

CY: Yes, 64-bit in general runs better than 32-bit. In fact I would recommend gamers run 64-bit only under very high configurations. We ship both 32- and 64-bit out of box.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/98...runs-quad-core

Will the x64 version have a significant performance improvement over the x86 one?

With all others things being equal regarding hardware and driver performance then the 64bit version of Crysis will be the best performing version. The Sandbox level editor processes a large amount of data and is best run on a 64bit system.
Plainly put, this will be one of the first games actually designed around 64bit.

As for why they'd specifically aim for 64bit instead of 32bit...Simple. Remember crytek saying they wanted to build an engine for the future? 32bit isn't the future, 64bit is.

i forgot ... but yeah i found it in the beta forum ..

    i think it was like:

    put:
    r_sunshafts = 1

    in "system.cfg"

    not sure tho...

wait for the tweakguide to have a guide up in the next week ...

    http://www.tweakguides.com/

as for DX10 ultra high , yeah at 1280x1050 when i move around i get like 20fps ....and 25fps standing still, the 64bit crysis.exe, and crysis64.exe under "bin64" folder doesnt work ....

argh .. nvm there is no system.cfg under the game folder.. there was in beta mp

let me try game.cfg under My Documents\My Games\Crysis_SP_DEMO

CY: Yes, 64-bit in general runs better than 32-bit. In fact I would recommend gamers run 64-bit only under very high configurations. We ship both 32- and 64-bit out of box.
This implies 2 different sets of files:
    -one for 32
    -one for 64
Which appears to be based on how it's installed (based on the OS you have). Therefore, it appears that the game is optimized for both 32 and 64 (how well it's optimized is a different story). What he is saying is that 64 bit in general runs better then 32 bit. General being the key word here. He's not taking about Crysis 64 bit specifically.

1 yeah for vista x64, it installs a "bin64" folder

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...3&postcount=89

    but running crysis.exe and crysis64.exe = crash

    2. yup sunshafts works on XP/DX9 ..

    put:
    r_sunshafts = 1

at the bottom of game.cfg under My Documents\My Games\Crysis_SP_DEMO

    this was at DX9 XP32:

for a stock GTX, Q6600 @ 3.5GHz 1440x900 all high no AA was very playable .. getting ~40fps standing still, and 35fps when moving around

PS: this game eats about ~400 to 450MB VRAM at 1440x900 all high ... the reason for the 250MB VRAM usage was that i took it right after it loads, but as u move around it just increases

    1. crysis is supposed to push the limits, not cater to the majority
    2. if you own vista 32 bit you don't need to buy it over. Simply request an x64 disk from MS for a 5 dollar shipping fee and you're set.

    1. Other games like Bioshock, COD4, UT3, etc didn't need to push the limits to be a good sellers/popular
    2. It only proves my point on have to re-buy Vista again just to play 1 game.

Interestingly enough the demo doesn't bold well for vista 64 bit users. While others are reporting poor frame rates.

Look here as well. Here is another user with GTX states that the Crysis demo with vista 64 bit only runs well in a window but runs like crap in full screen. I also forgot to mention that this person is using the latest nvidia beta drivers.

Also, someone posting SLI (I assume he's using ultras from reading his sig) reporting less then fluid gameplay found here

How do I show fps in the demo? Fraps isnt working. I get AWFUL fps @ 1920*1200 with a single 8800GTS. My card decided to set it's self back to stock so imma grab the latest beta drivers and try again OC'd.

Last I checked, rebuying vista cost a lot more than 5 dollars. You don't NEED it either, just like you don't NEED vista/DX10 to play crysis.

How does bioshock/cod4/ut3 selling well/being popular have to do with crysis being the game that pushes the envelope of graphics?
