Yes, the mod actually is really simple. It's the same thing for the Striker and our board. Just take a pencil, go to bios and start drawing lines until the voltage on the screen is what you set it to. Normally it shouldn't drop anymore then. When you're finished, put some tape on the spot where you did the mod to keep everything in place (you don't want that to be flying around in your case).

Sure, go right ahead. I've done it three times with non-functional 0801 and 0803 BIOSes. No problems encountered whatsoever.

Most people that are having issues with any of the 0800 series BIOS are pushing there boards to the limits and beyond. If your system is running fine then flashing the BIOS is more of a risk than running it until a new one is released.

i just got back my RMA'd MB its a p5n32e sli plus , yet now the new board has a p5n32e sli bios , its weird .
but all the stability problems are fixed . so i cant complain .
how the hell is it possible? one is i650 , and one is i680 chipset.

Which version of the BIOS is on there?
Technically the board might run ok with it but I doubt it was on purpose if indeed it is another boards BIOS. It could be though because they would have had to force the flash somehow. Maybe they stuck a whole new chip on it and put the wrong one?

its the 1205 bios , and it runs like a charm , the bios clearly states sli and not plus , yet everest shows that the chipset is the hybrid i650 one , and not the i680.
my memory problems are fixed , now i can run 4gb of ram 4X1 .
and the system is supper stable 28H of prime.

maybe thay discoverd that the i680 bios works better?

yet im having problems OCing tho , i can get windows to boot on 3.0ghz (q6600)
when on the old bios i booted 3.0 with no problem , all set at auto .

Even though it runs and has been known to in the past I will bet that them flashing it with that BIOS was a mistake. It is up to you but the new 0805 plus BIOS should have the same implementations for compatibility and also have the correct instructions for the 650i/570i chipset combination we are dealing with for this board.

Hey all, I'm looking to go SLI and was looking at this board... is the Plus a good one nowadays or is it still plagued with BIOS issues like mentioned early on in the thread? I want to run a Q6600 with 4x1GB RAM in it.

I wasn't too happy with the FSB results when I tried to clock a quad. A quad with open multiplier works like a charm, PWMs and all don't have a problem with that.

got any cpu-z or superpi screenshots? I wouldn't mind putting this board back in.

Seems like this thread is trailing off just as I'm jumping onboard! I got sick of the miserable OC "capabilities" of my P5N-E and nabbed a "plus" off the egg's used & abused section. Cheap but ZERO accessories...no SLI bridge, no sound riser even. Annoying. Anyway I got an RMA #, but I'm having so much fun with it I just may keep it. It's priming away at 3.4Ghz(1700/1100) unlinked right now and staying under 50c too. My vile P5N-E wouldn't get over 3Ghz with the same CPU & memory. Nice board so far.

oh man I have to change my sig...that must have been 3 years ago.

Here's my highest stable OC on this board with the 801 BIOS and my E4300 (L2 Stepping):

Do ya think I can do higher with the 805 BIOS?

Here's a picture of a Prime run I did yesterday. Water temperature was at 25.1°C, pretty cold here right now

Nice! I wish I could justify an unlocked quad...seems the only way to get a great OC on this board with a quad.

Well my board seems to hit a brick wall at 427mhz...it's definately the board limiting me now. Anyone have any suggestions? Everything seems stable & cool w/ these voltages:

    1.475cpu/2.175mem/1.25/1.4NB/1.5SB/1.25

I got through orthos blend@3.4Ghz(425x8) but I only let it run a couple hours. Since then I've been accepting that the board isn't going much higher and just tightening my memory timings. These PC8k Firestix love this board. I'm running 1005Mhz w/ 4-3-3-12-2T timings and all seems very stable. More testing is needed though. I'd like to see 3.6Ghz but that seems a world away from here as I haven't found any voltage combos that give me 1mhz over 427. Suggestions appreciated.

I couldn't justify a purchase either. Way to much money. I got it for a review, so it won't be here too much longer. Nice piece of hardware, but definitely way too pricy.
The sad thing, as I mentioned before, is that the board is really capable of running the quad at these clocks. PWMs are really working great, stable voltages and all that.

About your overclock, did you try the LDT 4x thingy? I don't know if it does something but it "might". Maybe you could also try 1.45V on the NB.

It's really a shame they gouge so much for the flexibility of unlocked multis. I could probably justify up to +50% maybe even more if I had a good week...but I'd never pay 2x or more.

I noticed the unsinked regulators between the heatpipe & the CPU socket get really toasty. Did you sink those or just leave em be? I believe those three RIO chips are the hottest components on my motherboard. I'm thinking about hacking up an old heatsink to slap on them...doubt it'll do anything for my clocks, but it might improve the board's longevity.

I did set the LDT to 4x and left it some time back...suppose I could try other settings there too. I have tried NB settings up to 1.55 I believe and it didn't seem to do much except produce more heat. I'll fiddle with it a bit more, before I resign myself to be stuck at 3.4Ghz for awhile. I really like this board...think I'm going to keep it. Lot of features for $100.

I think I saw earlier in this lengthy thread someone suggesting that the 0805 BIOS had limited their OC. What do you think of that? I have pretty much all of them...I just flashed the latest I had right after I got the board. Think it's worth it to mess with earlier revisions?

Yes, I did put some heatsinks on them. Yet I'll have to modify the bracket of my CPU block to put heatsinks on all of them. They get really hot on my machine too.
The 805 runs fine on my machine so far, I didn't see a limit as far as I can say. I'd need to re-check this with my newer CPU block and PWM water blocks, maybe I can get a little higher then.

About the price: You're definitely right. "A little" more would be one thing, but if you can get a reasonable CPU for around 250, why would one want to pay 1000 bucks just for unlocked multipliers?

Not this kid! Having unlocked multis again would be fun though. Nostalgic even.

Think my waterblock will interfere with my heatsink plans too. Guess I'll just take the heatsinks to the grinder. heh

I my qx6700 chip for $600 off ebay but that was before the G0s came out. there's ones available for now $469.99 and cheaper.

@Radical_53: any chance for a superpi 1M run?

This board has been the best I have ever owned until a couple days ago when out of the blue it froze with a bad checksum error. The mouse and keyboard lights went out but the system and fans kept running but I received no error beeps at all. It said bad checksum, keyboard not found, checking boot from cdrom, cdrom not found, and then froze. It would not let me into the BIOS. This would happen every time the system was turned on. I did the standard stuff like clearing the CMOS by jumper, taking battery out, booting from Linux image, booting from floppy, disconnecting all hardware but main components, nothing worked. The next morning after leaving the battery out all night it acted like it was going to post but stuck at hardware detection and still wouldn't let me into the BIOS setup. It is on it's way back to Asus now.
If you are considering getting this board then I would think hard. Asus support was really hard to get a hold of. They will not be able to replace the board if it is not reparable because its status is discontinued with no more stock available. I have been slacking in the backup department so because of my raid setups for storage and the OS I needed the same board. I ended up ordering another one from Newegg. I didn't get the open box because it only has a fifteen day return policy and the odds of DOA are high. I figure that if the RMA board is repairable then I can return the new one with plenty of time. If it's not repairable then I needed the same board anyhow to have a sure way to save all my data. Hopefully it is not reparable and they upgrade me to the striker extreme. If that is out of stock then who knows because I need an Sli board. Thats my little story about a giant headache.

Sorry to hear about that . Put the driver cd that came with the motherboard in the cdrom when you turn on the computer. It has an emergency bios recovery utility on it that can repair poopy bios. Had a m2nsli board that I had to do that with because it didn't like the ocz memory that was in it.
