just so you guys know the voltage adjustment doesn't work on the xt models either, you can set it, but as soon as you adjust clock speeds, it goes back to default, the trick is to set clocks, then adjust volts, it will stick then

Sorry about not getting in touch in this thread for a while. My club3d card so far mamages 850mhz on the core with stock volts, and somewhere around 1053(2106) to 1090(2180) on the memory. To get to 860 i have to set it,. then up teh voltage slightly. Any above that lcoks up. I believe the voltage issue is with all hd2900's on atitool. Hopefully it will be resolved in the beta 3 or something.

I am spending today and tomorrow testing it, so be back with some more results. Main issue i have now is 3dmark03,05 and 06 won't load, even after a reinstall of XP. I am thinking it has to be driver related, as everyone else is runn them fine.

This thread is looking very good !

Thanks AMD/ATI for bringing this awesome card

@SpikeP: my card behaves exactly the same. I set up 833/980 for 24/7 use. Not bad at all in my opinion

@chri5g: we will have nice fight! I'm preparing popcorn and beer

Just so you know chri5g, i am in the process of doing the same thing, except it is 512mb hd2900pro vs 320mb 8800gts. are you doing 1024mb vs 640mb???

looking forward to seeing if the hd2900xt bios with -newbios increases the voltage at all. If it does i am doing it as well!

for now i am going to continue with this comparison thing. done 03,05 and 06 so far. now to try some games. Hopefully be finished by the end of the day. how are the 1gb cards overclocking?

quick update. results are gona take a tad longer than expected...

First thing is that the 8800gts was winning by a margin in some games, and it was all down to the AA being enabled. This lead me to trying just setting it in the driver and not in game.

Results are rather different this end. Can anyone try this as well?

For now i am going to print screen some image and compare image quality between them. This didn't make any difference on the GTS

I would be....VERY....VERY happy if somebody could tell me, wether all the hd 2900 pros, despite manufacturer (HIS, Sapphire, Powercolor) sells them with a 3-pipes cooling, or if it's just HIS? I can only purcahse the 2900 pro from Sapphire and Powercolor in my country.

well said i would get back with results. not as many as i hoped to do, but other things have cropped up to get in the way. one being the aa in driver thing. Seems it works in some games, and not in others, or for example dreamfall...

Dreamfall main charachter is zoe, and on any aa setting it breaks her hair in places where it is so thin. you can only see this zoomed in. However the 4xaa in the ati driver kept them solid, but didn't really do much else.

On the flip side, it work fine in nfsmw and tomb raider legends. It seems setting it in the driver yields much better number than in game. I will continue looking into this throughout the next week.

    well here goes

    World In Conflict

    8800gts stock

    1280 2xAA dx9 = 30 / 16 / 57
    1280 4xAA dx9 = 29 / 15 / 59
    1680 2xAA dx9 = 26 / 14 / 52
    1680 4xAA dx9 = 23 / 10 / 58
    2048 2xAA dx9 = 17 / 9 / 34
    2048 4xAA dx9 = 10 / 4 / 32

    hd2900pro stock

    1280 2xAA dx9 = 27 / 14 / 40
    1280 4xAA dx9 = 24 / 15 / 38 - with 4xAA set in driver = 33 / 15 / 50
    1680 2xAA dx9 = 23 / 14 / 37
    1680 4xAA dx9 = 20 / 11 / 35
    2048 2xAA dx9 = 16 / 10 / 24
    2048 4xAA dx9 = 14 / 7 / 22

overclocked will come later on. As you can see, the inprovement in performance by going through the driver is major.

    In Dreamfall i got:

    8800GTS:

    2048 4xAA:

    71fps - chapter 13
    93fps - chapter 12
    96fps - chapter 11
    140fps - chapter 10
    110fps - chapter 8
    87fps - chapter 7
    134fps - chapter 5
    83fps - chapter 5 robots
    47fps - chapter 4
    85fps - chapter 3

    Hd2900Pro

    2048 4xAA:

    45fps - chapter 13
    60fps - chapter 12
    68fps - chapter 11
    102fps - chapter 10
    81fps - chapter 8
    51fps - chapter 7
    112fps - chapter 5
    65fps - chapter 5 robots
    37fps - chapter 4
    43fps - chapter 3

here we see again this drop in performance compared to the 8800gts. I am innvestigating this using chapter 13. 45fps become 88fps with aa turn off, and 4x in the ati driver gives you 70fps, whilst 45fps is what you get when you do it in the game.

    Tomb Raider Legends

    8800GTS:

    1280 x 1024 with AA = 45

    1680 x 1050 with AA = 37

    2048 x 1536 with AA = 23

    Hd2900Pro

    1280 x 1024 with AA = 26 - set in driver = 49

    1680 x 1050 with AA = 21 - set in driver = 32

    2048 x 1536 with AA = 14 - set in driver = 23

Can anyone see a pattern emerging. Like i said before. I am looking into this. When i get another spare minute, i will get print screens and compare for you. I have briefly and it looks like dreamfall does nothing, or very little, where as the other 3 games work fine and it looks like aa is on as well with it set in the driver. It would be very much appreciated if someone could investigate this as well, and this is being run on the same rig, and there may just be something i am doing. Also anyone tested vista yet?

That my next step when i get over these ones. I just don;t have enough time to get it all done quickly. I know this post has been rough, and i will try and resolve this asap. I have just posted it now cause i said i would.

    New personal high-score!

@SpikeP: Good work (PS. Regarding AA wired behavior, I read somewhere about that and it is confirmed! Sometimes it's better to force it from CCC and sometimes better from game itself)

    @praesto: I saw only 3 heatpipe HD2900Pro cards so far ... Look @ other HD2900Pro topic here
