i have had 3.82 stable with or without vdrop mod, its not really necessary, because u just have to apply the voltage knowing the vdrop ur board has, mine has a .04drop under load other than the fact that if i set 1.52v in bios its 1.49v in windows, i processor wants 1.50v under load to do 3.8, i ran prime on it for about 3 hours.

by the wasy here is a link to the pencil mod, it works for sure on the striker. i am running at 3.7 right now, prime temps are 60c load, and when i run seti@home which loads all cores to 100%, the temps are 50c.

    LINK to the mod

    Good for you,

I basically only like the Striker for a few reasons, I got what I paid for, a solid 680i board, with very acceptable overclocking abilities.

The best thing about the Striker is I have only had one of them in 6 months, compared to the 4 EVGA's I went through in 3 months, and the 2 IN9 32-X Max's in 3 months. So yeah, so far for me the Striker pwn's the other's because it has held up.

Like i said, for those of you who got lucky and got a good reference board, more power to ya! I wish i wouldn't have had to go with the striker, but after 15 motherboards, it is FACT in my book. Congrats on a good board. You are a lucky one.

My treatment with EVGA has been better than first class. hell it took longer to get my first striker RMA than the first 6 EVGA's combined. When my EVGA worked it was awesome. I loved it. Now that i've added so much water, i just cant deal with the hassle of changing it every month or so. Majority of my issues were the -- on the display. Change a CPU, reboot and --, No fix.

exactly, i went through 4 evga's in 6 months, service was first class, yes. but i didnt want to change out my board every month, if someone has a good evga of bfg of xfx board thats good but i personally would never buy a reference 680i board period. i am no fan of any company, because asus is still a 680i but i hate the reference boards, search online even in evga forums where people are having crap load of problems. this thread is about stirker overclocking the quads almost as good as evga, because people like me thought that it didnt, thanks go nugzo for pointing it out.

Hi guy's, I just got my third RMA board from EVGA this week back again and pretested Q6600 G0 it worked on P5K board up to 3.9 stable for bench, now I made Vmod on the 680i and everything looked great, until I push for more. So I tried to OC over 3.6 and no luck with it today I just played with it and after all I got the two - - magic dashes So I'll send this board back again tomorrow but I'm not going to deal any more with it, that's it I don't want it any more f..k it I'm watching out for some new board now, but I don't like Asus bc of the bad support.
I don't know what to get any more, so if any sugestions no need for SLI.

"two - - magic dashes" welcome to my hell that i went through, 3 out of four boards that i had died that way man, i finally spent 50 more bucks and got me a striker from mwave.com, they have the cheapest price on the striker. and i am glad again that nugzo brought this thread forward, otherwise i would be switching out evga boards. if you dont want evga and no sli than go with the p35 chipset, either abit or asus or gigabyte, honestly great service is good but great service doesnt do any good if i am gonna be changing out 4 board in six months. striker now is probably the best board for 680i chipset with reliability. doesnt act funny like evga boards did to me, it would lower the multiplier even though i had every cpu feature disabled in the bios. i would stay away from reference 680i design.i havent had asus rma experience because i honestly have never returned a board to asus, and i wasnt getting the striker because i thought they didnt overclock too well with the quad cores. i highly recomment the abit ip-35 pro. great board, for a single card setup, i was able to get 3.6 highest stable with that board and with the stiker i have hit 3.82GHZ prime stable but i have lowered it to 3712 for my 24/7 setup with c1e enabled in bios, because i dont need that much power while i am idling. under load it shoots up to 3712

Agreed about the support. Most of the time you dont need it though.

3.825 was my max stable also. I normally run 100mhz under max stable. 3712 is my 24/7 now at 1.5v. No c1e though

i either game or browse on the ineternet, so i really dont need 3.7ghz quad core while i am browsing the net and doing personal work.

with c1e i run at 2472 idle, it drops my multiplier to six. and under load the multiplier kicks in to 9.

Instead of all that idling, why don't you guys put them to good use and help out the xtremesystems WCG team? We could really use all the help we can, and you can put all that idle computing time to good use!

Just have a look in the World Community Grid portion of the forums for more info.

Vpll is the key. ASUS board probably has higher Vpll voltage over eVGA that's why your quad-core overclocks better.

    Vpll = 1.2Ht ?

I wouldn't say Striker overclocks better than the EVGA, maybe it does better than earlier reference boards, but most peeps had bad issues with the Striker and quads, just due to the fact they need to be setup totally different then overclocking dual cores and peeps were tweaking the wrong way... and got stuck around 333-360FSB,..., due to the numerous FSB holes and wrong settings.... and we were laughed at sooo many times by reference board users about our Anus superexpensive board

But I think we didn't make such a bad choice after all... my board is reaching one year now and besides the CPU init when I get the mobo out and fiddle on my Cube I have zero issues with mine.... ( thank GOD for the good old battery trick !! )

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Anyone remember the setting to turn off driver certification?
I'm running the 64-bit edition of Vista, and i can't get CoreTemp to read. In fact, PC PROBE from Asus isn't showing as much as it used to.
