For the past couple of days I'm trying to get my new Q6600 STABLE AT 3.6 Ghz but without succses. It will run Prime 95 25.4 for 2 hours(then I stop it manually), and remain stable for playing games, video encoding..., basicaly anything. After couple of hours and sometimes even the next day computer locks up while on desktop, doing nothing or sometimes while playing the game.

First I've tried with higher VCore but it's all the same from 1.375 to 1.45. Then I moved on to adjust the other voltages and tried different voltage combinations for SPP, MCP, FSB and HT, and noticed that they are best if left at AUTO(which is completly different from my previous Core2Duo E4300 that needed these voltages set manually for decent overclock). If I set these voltages at anything else then AUTO computer restarts or fails Prime in matter of minutes. Memory is out of question because it's completly stable(tested with Memtest 86+).Also, tried x8 multi with 450 FSB and it wouldn't even boot.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to resolve this? All help is very much appreciated.

SuperPI 32m is nothing to stress Quad core CPU. Mine can run superPI 32M @ 4 +Ghz 1.44V but to stabilize 4 cores together need much more Volts. All 20 Cpu's i've tested can run 4ghz 32M some of them toh 1.45 some with 1.5v , so nothing special. Run Prime95 that's what can really stress it

This is my latest adjustment - still working on things, but this is my first push higher than what it shows in my sig since I changed to a P5k Premium board and some new Patriot Ram

    3.6 stable(I think)

I just fired my q6600 (G0) up from 3.2 to 3.6. So far I had to use 1.5 volt to + damper to get it to stabalize, but I'll do some more tweaking. I've left the rest on auto. I'll tweak some more later. I really just wanted to see if I could get it to 3.6. The temperature in the room is really warm as well.

The only issue is that 2 of the cores stabalized at 78/79, and the other ones at 2 degrees lower.
It's really not a problem during gaming, since no game pushes the CPU that far.

If you guys have any tips for any settings or anything please let me know.

    q6600 G0, 1.5 (1.485 in cpu-z), 8800gtx, P5k Premium 0204 Bios, 4 GB RAM
Vista 64 bit. Thermalright Ultra 120.

    Just got a G0, L726A from ClubIT.

Running an old school Asus P5B Deluxe WiFiAP BIOS 1215, Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme w/Nexus 120mm, a dime under the bracket...

POSTs at 3.2ghz (8*400mhz) and 1.350v but doesn't even get to the Windows load screen, self reboots. At 1.3625v it makes it to the Windows load screen and reboots. At 1.3750v it makes it almost fully to the Windows desktop and then reboots. VID is 1.3250v.

Backed it down to 1.3250v and 2.8ghz for now, if it survives Orthos by tomorrow afternoon (~18 hours away) I'll see if that helps the AS5 set and if I can crank it a little harder. Disappointed so far.

I've got two other Q6600's here... one is a G0, L724A from the tankguys preorder. Did 3.2ghz (8*400mhz) at 1.3625v just fine, but at 1.350v core 2 consistently failed Orthos between 4 and 8 hours. Handles 48hr+ of Orthos with a 3D program just fine tho. Booted right up at 1.350v tho. VID is 1.2750v.

The other is a B3 from Fry's 4th of July sale... L644G, booted up just fine at default voltage (I forget what, 1.325v-ish?) at 3.2ghz (8*400mhz) and was rock solid for 48hr+ of Orthos with a 3D program running as well...

Will probably end up keeping the B3 and selling both G0's for a slight loss from the way it looks.

Its your motherboard man, change it to a P35 and your Quad "G0" will fly.

Can't do that yet, waiting for X38 boards to come out, then I need to find one that'll work with an Areca ARC-1680 for my 4TB array.

Hmm. Good point though, maybe I'll hang on to the B3 and the first G0 til I can get an X38 board, then see how they do.

Given that I just had a complete system lockup at 2.8ghz on my third Q6600... maybe it's time for that new MB sooner rather than later?

Frying in the old town tonight

Hehe, having a play with my G0. It's not "best of breed" for sure, look at that VID. None of your fancy cooling there, the stock Intel HSF admirably not coping with the load lol, ambient was 20C. But credit where it's due - 20 minutes of prime and no crash, it's a trooper. FSB seems to hit the wall at 435 at the moment, though I haven't tweaked the PLL and FSB volts hardly at all. Mobo is a P5K3D BIOS 0604, RAM is way understressed CellShock DDR3-1800 (uncooled as yet and I don't want to burn 'em), just running on auto.
