I can tell you right now its CPUZ if you are running the Beta version because it kept doing the same thing to me uninstalled and went back to recent stable build and no more problems with the exception that Vcore is not reported correctly.

Don't go by my sig I own and use the Abit IP35 Pro!

I'm planning on doing the heatpipe mod to this mobo. Should I just apply a small dot of Arctic Ceramique or should I spread it too? I recon a small dot is enough as the bolts deliver enough pressure to spread it out.

Thats what I did, works fine as long as the sink sits 'flat'
lots and lots of cores and lots and lots of tuners,HTPC's boards,cases,HDD's,vga's,DDR1&2&3 etc etc all powered by Corsair PSU's

God damn it's hard to get those mosfets properly cleaned of the excess paste. I know it's not going to hurt even if it gets between the mosfets, and it's never going to show under the heatsink, but I'm such a damn perfectionist.

If uGuru is started before CPUz 1.41 then the system will lock-up after some time, start CPUz and if needed then run uGuru and all works OK....

If I don't run CPU-Z, everything is fine and I can browse the internet, etc. Has anyone seen this problem before and if so, any suggestions to fix it? Oh yea, I was on 11 bios when I saw this problem then flashed to 12 beta and still same problem. Thanks.

Hmm well I have a problem. My system is really unstable. I just got a new board and memory back from RMA and still have the same problem. My memory tested out fine on Memtest. My hard drives tested out on Seagate tools and chkdsk, I even bought a new drive to see if that was the problem. Power supply is fine. Video card is fine. Samsung DVD-RW SH-S203B is new. I can't install xp x64 but I can install x32. The main problem is my downloads are corrupt, I can't download windows updates, I can't install java, flash, office 2007, adobe acrobat and most of all it has trouble install chipset drivers, realtek sound/nic drivers, video drivers, etc. System is really unstable.

Hard Drives: Seagate 400GB and new 160GB SATA; IDE mode in bios

Sounds like a Seagate HDD issue like the one everybody was experiencing with 9 series Seagates when they were first released. What version of the Seagate Hard drive is it? Because I was one of those people that had issues with them!
If its one of the 9 series try getting the Firmware updated thats if its out dated or try a Hitachi HDD

There you go brother thats you're problem! I had a hell of a time with the 9 series when they became available smoking fast but weren't worth a damn due to the corruption factor! There should be a Firmware upgrade that solves that issue but my personal opinion is go Hitachi and don't look back!

EDIT: I believe that Seagate did not really properly address the issue with Full resolve until they released the Seagate 7200.10 Series so I would seriously consider not really wasting you're time too much more on what you have because I would be willing to bet my Rig that you're problem gets corrected and does a 180 when you try a different drive! Might I suggest Hitachi as a personal recommendation.

2 funny. I managed to keep my oc stable all day yesterday @ a LAN. We played GRAW2, BF2/Desert Conflict, ET:QW, and of course there were mad file transfers going on. @ the LAN I decided to stick a couple more fans in the case, right? Then I got home and wanted to see what my normal temp would be like w/ the added airflow. Sure enough, I go clicking on uguru, cpu-z, core temp, ati tool, orthos, etc...lock, boot to verifying mirror from where all those tools reside. And that bastard takes almost an hour to finish too. Thanks for the confirmation TGE and fix ncsa.

Which do you prefer? DFI's more $100 more, but it's PCIe Gige, 6 USB on the I/O, better stock HS, much better placement of USB headers/front I/O for my case, and those colors w/ some UV lights would be pretty slick behind the already blue tinted Stacker window.

The RAID was healthy but it had a persistant "RAID ERROR" message on boot w/ the Intel RAID screen I just Windows up on a couple OC attempts (failed to go over 4.2 GHz on latest beta BIOS) so I installed Vista instead just for the hell of it

magic chef try going back to bios 11. beta 12 has been giving quite a few people issues. Also no need to set ich to 1.12. u can just leave it stock unless your running high FSB>460+ up your vcore though
i would try a new HD though, sounds like a conflict there. But def go to bios 11.

These settings got me 7 minutes of Small FFT's before Core 2 crapped out. So I upped the vCore to 1.4925 and got an instant shutdown upon firing up Prime. This thing just hates high voltages. So I just went to bed ans tossed and turned thinking about it. This morning I got up and went back to the first settings of MCH 1.65, ICHIO of 1.81, and vCore of 1.425. But this time I set the CPURef's to 70% instead of 67%. I am now almost 2.5 hours into Small FFT's without a whimper from it this time. I am beggining to like this thing now Thank's Ace for the suggestions.

if you are using Uguru version 3.104, then you have a defective board or possibly the bios is all screwed up since it should not be doing that, the shutdown part, when you set the max ICHIO 1.5 and MCH.

did you say you did the heatpipe mod?

Yes I have done the mod. I finally have the settings that I posted will keep it Prime stable at 3.6 either 8x450 or 9x400. I cannot get it any higher. If I try any higher on vcore or mch I get an instant shutdown when I try to start Prime. I got the same symptoms with my OCZ psu so I think power can be ruled out. The only 2 things I can think of are either I have gotten the heatpipes too tight somewhere or a bad board, like you say. I would not think it was a memory issue as I was using Small FFT's. I do know my Crucial 1066 Tracers will not get into Windows at 1:1.25 @ 450. Must not like the Strap at that speed, which kind of surprised me. I had gotten 2 more sticks and through them in yesterday. I think when I redo things when my fans come in I will go to the 2 newer ones just to make sure. If it IS a bad board, how can I go about checking exactly what is wrong so I can contact Abit?
As far as a bios issue, I have reflashed it and it looks like all goes well. Did the battery removal, power button, the whole nine yards. I am tempted to try the 10 bios of maybe even beta 12. I also don't want to just buy another board, not knowing what the problem really is. But something is screwey somewhere.

I also took the drive out of my external and put it direct sata into the board and it was showing the same problems as the supposed broken one!

Now I think it may be the board!! what should I do, is there any way to try and configure something in bios??
before giving up on the drives, i would try boosting your ICHIO 1.5 at least to 1.7v or higher and raising the ICH 1.05 to 1.12v and MCH to 1.44v...all of those will affect hard drive errors...healthy voltage increases usually solve many issues...sometimes we are to soft on the increases.

you should set your memory to 1:1 while troubleshooting..that is the best technique to minimize the impact of memory on your system.

what concerns me that the board is probably defective but i'm not sure how you will/can convince abit that it is defective since you can post and boot into windows...it is just a problem once you want to go into a high overclock.

don't go back to 10 bios unless you are running XP...if you are doing vista, you will have problems....i'm using 12.B02 and i like it...try that one!

EDIT:...the reason just came to me for the RMA...tell abit that the board shuts down automatically when you go over 1.7v on the ICHIO 1.5v and above 1.65v for MCH...make sure you are using version Uguru 3.104...they will ask you!...if you haven't tried the official 11 bios then do!

    Initial problems

So I finally got everything setup but having boot issues. I get error code "FF". Looks and sounds as everything is fine but I have no video. Any suggestions guys? This is the first time I've ever tired the board so it's never been ran. Oh, I'm under water by the way, see sig.

    Thanks!

    i presume you post...right?

remove your X-Fi card to see if that helps.

make sure you have 1:1 set for fsb-memory ratio.

what kind of overclock are you running?
