Are you still running your memory @ 1T?

Try dropping it to 2T @ CL4 @ 800mhz to start with and see what you can do from there once you stabalize the CPU.

Ignore this if you already thought of that.

Need sleep, just finished work, will be offline tonight rebuilding and cleaning up my rig. Good luck, hope to come back on and find some good results from you.

well I ain't got the OCZ in now, cheap Gskill PK ram tried 4-4-4-12 2T and even 5-5-5-15 2T, same stuff will try the CPU end of next week in the P5K board and pop the E6850 back in here...

Good luck with the rebuild man, I'm starting to mod my 2nd (smaller cube) and that will be loads of work again...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Artic Silver5 or Ceramic Paste on Q6600 & Waterblocks -Poll?

    Hi Guyz

I've managed to get Intel to exchange my B3 for GO via my retailer Advancetec.co.UK [big thanks to Danny in Tech], prime 95 was consistently reporting hardware errors on the third core. The shop I bought it from did me a real favour as DHL will be bringing my new one and collected my old one at Intel’s cost, that’s what I call service!

I’m getting worried about using water on this CPU but I going to give it one last try. I use arctic silver ceramic paste but I want to ask you guys if you’re using arctic silver 5 on your heatsink’s or water blocks, which is considered better for water blocked quad core CPUs? Nobody seems to be able to give me a consistent answer so I think if I start a poll and see what the best Overclock’s are using on air or on water it will help me decide.

By the way guys I’m stuck it 3 GHz, 1333 FSB, 333.5 x 9, my voltages are pathetically safe 1.85v on memory and 1.31v auto on vCore, so this rig has a lot more potential but I’m wondering if the striker extreme or my crucial ballistic 5300 d9 micron sticks are not as good as they are meant to be? I’m second-guessing myself now, bad.

My P5B vanilla with D 805 went from 2.66GHz up to 3.66GHz no problem, [with 4.1GHz at Tomhardware.co.uk holding the record] & that was my first Intel OC which went so smooth, I guess I was just lucky it was my first.

I’ll report back in a few days when it arrives, hope you guys are doing better than me.

well there are loads of FSB holes with the striker and whiel it can run at 450 fsb boots easily it's hard to get stable, you will have to loosen ram timings and use adequate cooling on the board to get there, I really hope my radiator has arrived so I can test this week the board with added NB/SB watercooling and to get the same results Linflas got.... it seems the cpu needs more burn in then the dual core ones need so it boots fine with 450/475 fsb but is no where stable

hope to have good news if all the pieces are at my place....

Initial tests with the E6600 were pretty dissapointing, this in the fact it didn't boot with previous running overclocks (9 x 400 nor 8 x 450), stock was fine, I installed the E6850 and flashed again and strangely enough overclocking was as straightforward as with 1303, performance rely on par with 1303 , nothing really different found in terms of overclockability... weird thing was at a certain moment I opened CPU-Z ( for a screenshot) while Asus probe was running, all the voltage/temp detections went red... weird what was this... I openend Everest home to verify my temps/voltages there, they didn't show , rebooted the pc went into bios, bump voltage readings gone... also my fan control ability from the mobo was gone... apparently a reset of the bios helped here but this weird behaviour is known to other users too so it's something to do with the bios itself...

In a nutshell : if you have one of those coppermice flash it, but if not stay with 1303

I have had the same probs with the Voltage readings as well dissapearing in bios ,but a CMOS reset soon fixed it,I have finally got my B3 Q6600 running rock solid @3.6 and played BF2 for 3 hours and 10x loop of 3Dmarks 06 and not a single crash or lockup .

My settings are 8X multi FSB 1800-1.2HT 1.85v-NB 1.45 - CPU VTT 1.45-Vcore 1.5875 ,What I have found with the quad is not so much higher voltages are required to gain stabillity on the NB/SB but the most important voltage to play with is the 1.2HT i have no idea what it does ,but it works.

I can get 3.820ghz to boot into vista but it crashes halfway thru 3DMARKS and I can get 4.05 ghz to post and allmost load into windows, but I think ill stay with 3.6 because it has taken me 4 weeks to get a decent overlcok from my Quad core ,boy are they hard to OC.

EDIT ,I would allso like to thank everyones input in this thread and other threads regarding Striker Because they have been extremely helpfull in getting the most outa my setup, comming from AMD and never owning Intel before this forum has been a saviour ,keep up the good work community .

It appears the striker is coming around ok with the quad G0's. is 1303 the bios i want for go's? I'm fed up with EVGA so i have a striker and all water blocks on the way. I have 3 q6600 go's hat did 3700mhz on the evga. Wish me luck with the Striker!!! How is vdrop/vdroop on the striker? is there a pencil mod for it?

    Hi nugzo

for the vdrop/droop I have read somewere here that there was a pencil mod for the Striker, but as there wasnt an exact screenshot of the board I was afraid to try it,but if anyone has a screenshot I would be happy to give it a go.

The 1303 bios is the bios you want to run ,so far this has been the best bios release to date,Best of luck with the overclocking ,I am on air but would be interested in see your setup when you get it up and running.

Hi REVHEAD & Guys I'm finally able to test after hassle in shipping the G0 direct from Intel. They confirmed they DON'T change steppings even though you have a good reason for the better stepping like failure of one of the threads at modest OC'ing, so I pleaded & got my way, but it took them longer as it came from their manu factory way east, that is it had to be made to order.

REVHEAD Can I ask you what settings on the 1.2HT worked for you? Also did you go straight to 3.6GHz onwards from stock? tThe reason I ask this is that many forums talk about holes on the Striker & Q6600 combo, did you find that that after pushing passed the lower GHz things got better or should I do the methodical incremental slow but sure increase method from 2.4GHz in 10MHz increments?

I agree with you about this excellant forum as Intel OC'ing is a steeper learning curve than AMD, especially with the speed of RAM & chipset innovation in the intel space and I'm just finding my feet on this my 2nd Intel OC after the excellant Asus P5B.

One last question guyz about safe Voltages. In Overvoltage my bios VCore input was 1.54v to get 3.2GHz x 9 multi FSB 1424MHz Linked to the RAM @ 2.2 & RAM FSB 890, FSB Ratio Auto [4:5 according to CPU-Z]. But in the bios Voltage moniters VCore reads only 1.50v? Which reading do I trust Overvoltage, Voltage Monitor or is there a fullproof Utility in Dos or Windows I should be using instead?

Hope these questions arn't to n00b but I need to learn without overcooking things, literally.

Which BIOS you using? If you're using the latest which is 1305, try going back to 1303, I think you remember having similar problems with 1305.

I've been reading everywhere that the 1305 bios is poop, has major issues. Flash back to the 1303.

you got private mail GrewPaws, and surely those settigns won't work with the quad as 400FSB is a big black no boot screen assured !!!
