Is this a problem or is the glue strong enough to hold it on

I would call the ASUS RMA department and tell them that when you opened the box that cooler was like that. maybe say, that is why you have not used the board. I have found them very leanent.

Question, I have an un-known USB device in device manager. Even will all my USB devices are unplugged. Does any one have that? Or, know what that may be from.

I have air cooling and am on my 3ed cooler. The one I have now is working real well even under hi loads like Prime95 or Ortho etc. I have the Q fan disabled. It is Little loud, but that is OK with me

The CPU cooler has the bottom vents pushing downward toward the backand air is hitting the pipe/ fin power cooler. Directly behind that I have an outward drawing fan. Well anyway, I was looking at that optional fan and decided to try it out despite the warnings. I installed to draw backward. But, in mostly draws down.

My Motherboard temps went from an average 50c ~ 55c under load to around 47c to 50c. The CPU temps are the same as before. This is the first time I tested it because of the warnings

    P5B Deluxe unstable

    Hello,

    I have the following system:

    P5B Deluxe Rev 1.03G (BIOS 1216)
    Core 2 Duo E6600
4 Gig of DDR2 800 MHz OCZ2G8001G memory modules (memory voltage set at 2.0V)
Seagate 200 GB and 320 GB SATA disks
    Asus 7900GS
Antec Sonata II 450W ATX12V v2.01 power supply
Windows XP SP2 (Ran Vista Ultimate before)

I bought the Asus P5B Deluxe in February this year, and the board has been unstable. I have had the following problems:

    1) It works for the most part, but I get strange behavior such as random application crashes (Event ID 1000). Ex: Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.3156, faulting module shell32.dll, version 6.0.2900.3051, fault address 0x0002cb36.

Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20070.6982, faulting module js3250.dll, version 4.0.0.0, fault address 0x0004caf4.

Faulting application vmserverdWin32.exe, version 1.0.3.44356, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.2180, fault address 0x00038ae2.

Faulting application avginet.exe, version 7.5.0.473, faulting module mfc71.dll, version 7.10.3077.0, fault address 0x0002a3a3.

Faulting application avginet.exe, version 7.5.0.473, faulting module msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.3052.4, fault address 0x00010c34.

Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.3.5.1305, faulting module gen_jumpex.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00016795.

    2) Sometimes I have had random reboots, but not too many.

    3) I flashed to the latest BIOS a couple of weeks ago, and after the flash the ASUS logo screen during boot up would sometimes become corrupted, which made the screen displaying the logo look messed up. This is fixed now, and I don’t know if reflashing the BIOS fixed the issue.

    4) Windows XP would sometimes hang on the Windows XP logo during boot, but just hitting the reset button would solve the issue. The 2 Seagate SATA disks are connected to the Intel storage controller and that is set as IDE in the BIOS.

    5) When I was at the 1004 BIOS, the EZ Flash utility did not work, but a BIOS reflash fixed the issue. I am now on the latest BIOS 1216.

    6) The soundmax audio produced a cracking sounds when recording my voice with skype, but this is resolved now and I believe is a known issue.

I am thinking the problems I am having with stability have something to do with a bad BIOS chip, or something to do with the storage controller. Please let me know if you have had similar problems with this board and resolved them. I am not overclocking the system and I tried downclocking my ram to 667 MHz to see if it would help. I ram memtest86 when it was set at 800 MHz and 667 MHz with 30 passes and there were no memory errors reported. So this is not a ram issue.

I am at the point where I will either RMA the board, or maybe I will waste more money on the Asus P5N32-E board.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I think you have both a Bios problem and a Operating System.

I would clear that bios by unplugging the computer and taking the batter out for a minute or so or use the jumper to clear it. Then you should be-able to flash it With Easy Flash. Maybe you need a fresh XP install after. That maybe better than trying to fix a corrupted registry and/ or the rest of the OS. You could try a restore point. But, sometimes that does not work well or at all. If dills etc are gone and services are not working correct. A registry resort may be ineffective.

Well, since the application crashes are not occurring that much lately, I will see how it runs with the memory set at 667 MHz. If it keeps crashing then I will RMA.

Has anyone had bad BIOS flashes with this board? Is it true that the P5B Deluxe does not like being flashed.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I could never get EZ-Flash to work. It always said their was 'no boot signature.' However I have updated the bios on several occasions using the 'AFUDOS' utility and the old trustworthy floppy.

I have one that I bought right after they first were available. I have flashed it a dozen times or so all using the ez-flash, never have had a problem.

test99, set your vdimm to 2.1, 800, 5-5-5-15, that should work. Also, you should do a clean install of xp.

[XC] 4X4N - The OCZ RAM on the OCZ site does say 2.1V, so I just set the VDIMM to 2.1 and back to 800 MHz. I left it on SPD settings in BIOS, and CPU Z reports 5-5-5-15 2T. I'll let you know if there are any more application crashes.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    More problems...

    Asus P5B-D
    2x1GB DDR2-800 G.Skill HZs @ 1:1
    Corsair HX520W
    Intel e6400 @ 3.2 (400 x 8)

After nine months running without a glitch I randomly start experiencing BSODs. These occur while I'm surfing/gaming, basically any random task; a reboot temporarily fixes the issue. Around this same time I notice that whenever I shut my computer down for the night it won't post when I go back to turn it on until I change out the RAM with a stick of no-name PC2-5300. At first I thought "well these G.Skill need more juice" so I upped the voltage to 2.25. Things work fine for a few days then I go to turn the computer on one morning and nothing, no post. I'm forced to remove the RAM and boot with the extra stick I have.

I'm not sure what's going on here. It's like even though I have the correct voltage set, the motherboard isn't suppling it to the RAM on a cold boot. I'm constantly have to kick start the damn thing. Also just to rule out bad ram I've run the stuff with memtest86 for hours upon hours.

Any ideas? Suggestions? I'm almost to the point of ordering the IP35 Pro. Would this board have the same problems with RAM voltage?

Does anyone have a problem with their Q6600 CPU temp readings?. When I first boot up the temp readings are fine, but when I resume from standby they are 15-20 degrees higher. The core readings are fine it's just the CPU temp that gets messed up. bios 1216

So did you end up just replacing it with another set? I don't understand how it could be the RAM because it works fine once I get it to post.

/edit well minus the unexplained BSODs

I wouldn't hesitate to suspect the G.Skill RAM. I'm on my 2nd RMA with them. Works fine for a few weeks, then start getting random lockups and reboots. I'm not even overclocking the RAM, and in-fact am running them under spec (850MHz even though they're rated for 1GHz).

A little searching reveals that lots of people are having problems with their memory. Seemed like a good company at first, now I'm rather disenchanted with them and am wishing I got something else. I would've had to go with CAS5 instead of CAS4 though.

How is the RMA experience with G.Skill? Are we talking weeks or months?

If it is not that compatible with the P5B, maybe you should RMA it, then sell it on e-bay.

I'm having problems with Network/ Internet drop out, Xfi Audio, and now a Gfx Problem. I'm wondering about the 'PCI Express Frequency' and 'PCI Clock Syncronisation mode'? My settings are 100, and 33.33, What if I put them back to default considering I'm overclocking the other usual stuff?

Yes, I am running Vista x64. When I installed Vista the only drivers I had to install were my graphics and sound drivers. Everything else was automatically installed by Vista. I use an E6600.

I had Pci x1 and a harddrive that would freeze for 15 ~ 30 seconds with a clicking sound, but their apparently were sovled by setting PCI Express Frequency to 101.

    Hope this Helps!

Well, I tried setting the ram at 2.1V but no improvement. I RMA'ed the MB and received the newer rev 1.10G board with the P965 C2 stepping. It’s been running for 4 days with no issues. So I think the old board was screwy.

The new board is running the 1101 BIOS, but I am not going to flash it if there are no issues. I did leave the ram running on 2.1V though since I think it helps.

    Anyway, Thanks for the help.

That is discouraging sense it seems they died at stock timings and voltage. So maybe one should just crank up the voltage and forget about it!

    vNB: 1.55

    I could go 4-4-4-12 if I wanted to go 2.3 - 2.35v.
