It's from Duke (overclocking team switzerland). I benched with him on 2-3. september 2007. We used exactly this ram... and it run very crappy on the dfi....

Looks like 666MHz to me not 684MHz. But that's neither here nor there. It's an issue between the board and the SPD. Flash with a different SPD and the ram will fly.

Like I said, "neither here nor there". The problem is an SPD issue. Other board/memory combinations do the same.

Giga P35-DQ6... same chipset! but the problem isn't there...
    So it's a DFI problem...

We bought 10 DFIs... and I don't know anybody who can run high ram frequencies with cl4. This board definitly sucks with ram performance compared to giga p35-dq6. This is a fact!

WE NEED A BIOS FIX! ASAP!

If the OC result can only be done in DQ6 , I think maybe you need to adjust some sub timing ... Gigabyte use very loose sub timing when DRAM drequency is high , althought the oc can be high , but the performance is bad ...

Exactly. But this applies not only to some of the auto sub-timings but also to the non-user accessible chip latencies that are set by info contained in the SPD. This allows maximum performance with the components most users have. And 684/4-4-4 capable ram is not what the majority of people will end up. Add the aggressive SPD that is programmed into the CellShock sticks and the outcome is precisely what one would expect. The solution is to find an SPD that is less aggressive or rewrite the current SPD.

Well I decided its time to get back to my D.F.I LanParty Board reliability after numerous attempts to make a go of other boards which have always fallen short of my expectations! My current Abit IP35 Pro is acting funky and emitting a very high pitched sound and also would not take the Bios settings after 5 attempts prior to a 2hr clear cmos and one of the USB ports died as well.

I just ordered the D.F.I P35 I just hope it proves to be as trouble free and as solid as my D.F.I Expert

Well , if only for valid , this is max I can get ...
My DRAM is not that good , it need 3V to push to this limit ...
    I I can get better ram , maybe I can go higher with 2.8V or 2.9V ~
I still think the board is ok with CL4 and DRAM frequency > 1200 mhz
Maybe it's some setting or some sub timing ...
    Besides 4-4-4-12 , I only adjust All Precharge to Act = 6 , tRFC=42
All other timings are auto ...

Anybody know of successful Areca Raid Controllers working in this Mobo?\

Also which is the slot for the Areca card the bottom one right?

Make sure you use 8/23 BIOS or newer when plugging any kind of controllers. Earlier versions of BIOS have problem loading controller's ROM image, in my case it was Adaptec 29320LPE PCIe SCSI Controller. I use bottom PCIe slot.

Thanks brother Out of curiosity is the X1 Electrical slot ever going to work when X4 Signal is set in Bios or is a hardware deficiency and not curable with future Bios Updates?

The mechanics behind the multiplier are more complex. Inside the CPU there's a phase locked loop (PLL) circuit that uses two dividers.

Put (relatively) simply, the FSB clock is applied to one input of a frequency comparator, the output from which drives a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The VCO is the actual configurable gadget which, left to its own devices, spits out approximately the right core clock frequency for the CPU.

The VCO can't be trusted to get it quite right, though, so its output is fed through the two dividers (two dividers let you have fractional multipliers; older processors that only handled integer multipliers have only one divider) that're set to the right ratio to recreate the bus clock from the VCO's output, assuming the VCO output is exactly right.

The output from the dividers goes to the second input of the frequency comparator I mentioned above. This closes the loop in the PLL; the comparator controls the VCO's input, and compares the VCO's divided output to the FSB speed it's supposed to perfectly match, and tweaks the VCO input if it doesn't. The circuit can thus very rapidly settle onto pretty much the exact frequency the processor's meant to run at.
    More info taken from here.

Does this board shut down after you make changes in Bios when you save /exit like the IP35 Pro does?

What about a RAM Cooler is that doable like the Corsair Dominator?

@ ...C-N ...or.... RLM ...... would one of you guys be as kind to give me a reference starting point in the BIOS settings with the P35 Bios Template for 3.2ghz o my Q6600 and what does that CPU FSB Jumper on the Motherboard have to be set at?

    Yes sometimes

What about a RAM Cooler is that doable like the Corsair Dominator?
I think its going to be too tight between the graphics card & the ram clips. I am using the fans from an OCZ XTC cooler on mine.

    JP13, 14 & 15 jumpers on 1&2 = CPU select (Default)

    JP13, 14 & 15 jumpers on 2&3 = 1066fsb CPU

I left mine as it come out of the box on CPU select (Default)

There are other variations for 800 & 1333fsb CPU's see page 54 of the manual.

What seems to be considered a safe quad FSB target on the DFI UT P35?

I am trying to figure out if I get this board or if I go P5K Premo or just wait for X38.

My CTL + I message is missing, BUT my drive is detected as RAID from a previous setup. Able to install the OS on ICH9R, but unable to get into RAID BIOS config. Drive is on Port 1.

    Any ideas?

@ ...C-N ...or.... RLM ...... would one of you guys be as kind to give me a reference starting point in the BIOS settings with the P35 Bios Template for 3.2ghz o my Q6600 and what does that CPU FSB Jumper on the Motherboard have to be set at?
There's a thread on i4memory I started, which has quite a few of my templates on

    http://www.i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=4563

A couple of things looking at C-N's template.

Firstly I had troubles running ram with EDT and EA set to FAST. If you run into stability problems, then it is an idea to try these set at NORMAL.

Secondly regarding GTL refs and quad cores. I posted this a few pages back.

Basically for quad cores, you multiply the FSB vtt by 67. So for instance if the FSB vtt is 1.5v your gtl refs should be 101. If the FSB vtt is 1.4v then 94. That's the theory anyway.
