    MSI P35 Neo2 *First look i think*

    MSI teaching overclocking!!!

I just installed a full XP now mods, 2006 Build, no updates!

Only Chipsets, GFX, 2.0 Net fix have been installed

    Rig is

    E6600 Lapped
    X1900XTX CF
GTX>Pa120.3>DDC2 Alphacool res & Top, Yate loon x3
    PC+P510w PSU
    Cell Shock PC8500 2GB
    Dell 2005FPW

This had been sat in customs for 2 weeks judging by dates on packing! Was sent it by a mistery lady called XXXX

Bord has lots and lots of LEDS and very colorfull!

Photos of it in my half assed setup, bench table has been delayed and still unsure on case so Azza (CPC) case it is!

^ Everything in BIOS was loaded at optimised defualts. Under SUPER PI CPU was @ 2.4ghz not whats shown as BIOS controls of Speedstep and Eist and D.O.T Control took over after load passes.

Right on with clocking the beast

2nd go, bang in at 400FSB

Oh all RAM timings there are by SPD!!! Not one touch yet by me! STD shipping bios too.

Need more cooling, some Vmods to least see whats really going on volt wise

Thats the max i have gotten so far. WC kit need to settle in a bit i think, i need to understand more on what i am doing and defo RAM as i have no idea!

PSU im awaiting a PC+P 750w quad CF cert to come in.
XP i need to make a new benching version, sub 100mb.
PCI GFX card only as will make things a bit faster!

Im happy with it so far, to boot into 400 and 412 out the box is good. My P5W DH Deluxe with mods doesn't at all go past 400 via BIOS.

One feature which i found odd but intresting with the mobo, it will keep trying to boot even if it fails. Im sure this will prove self desructive soon but time will tell.

Right lets find a new BIOS

Anyone eles that wants to help please do.

    Pete

Yeah and no, there is an 8 pin thing on there, 2 ports are covered to only use a 4 pin. It's righ under the 2 heatpipes and is a PITA to fit!

I found the new Memset for P35's, seams to be the final build so i shall give it ago inabit as i have things to do. MSI shoow the bord doing 500FSB, i have seen one other doing 479fsb.

We shall see. Might try and see what this multi option really does in bios if it will change it or not hehe

That last comment was surely true for the M6N Diamond version, prolly due to bad bios design... I think the regular NEO is not so good at overclocking, this one could rival the P5K vanilla...

    Keep us posted Pete
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

nice mobo, but is there any real diff. between the NEO2-FR\FIR and the Platinium version, forget about the circuit pipe and optical audio, i dont really car for the last, but i mean a difference in overclocking capability/ performance and such things..
im going to a new mobo from msi and im confused which is better in performance, since as i noticed that on the mobo pic. at msi site u can read "P35 Platinium" on what is supposed the P35 Neo2, so does that mean they are actually the same layout??

It's way better than my Asus P5W DH so far! 412fsb right in there. I guess it's only bord options on differnt models etc.

The heatpipes could be better and not sure what aftermarkt cooling will replace but it's cheap and does go some.

Was told this CPU did 3.8 Super PI and alast i have gotten it there! I've still yet to play with timings, thats still set by SPD.

I also did this only 1 X1900XTX in being the master.

Ordering my new PSU tonight 750w should help loads! Finaly they are in the UK

I was doing some quick benchs just to compare the memset scenario.
This was done with a Asus P5KD. I only adjust the first 4 parameters of the memory, the others were set at AUTO.
The command rate was set to 2T.

This is with Transaction booster DISABLED(relax 0)/Dram Static Read Control DISABLED. (Worst scenario)

And this was done with Transaction booster AUTO/Dram Static Read Control AUTO. (Best scenario)

As you see in my best SPD scenario, my performance level is the same as yours, but the others subtimings are to high in your motherboard .
Does MSI give you access to subtimings configuration in bios?

By the way, nice spi... keep pushing

... well, it depends. I believe the Neo 865P motherboards were kick ass, but then was followed by a disappointing neo 965P which couldn't overclock for crap, and now this .this doesn't look that bad. =)
