I got the parts for my sytem today and I can't get it to post for the first time. It does the dual boot thing, and I can see the led's on the motherboard light up and the case, gpu, and case fans spin, as do the hard drives, but don't see anything on my monitor.

    LOL

Section 3-2 shows a image next to it. I don't have XP installed because I want to start out with a raid array. Do I place the Intel Chipset Software onto the formatted USB drive and hit F6 to install during the installation of XP?

I wish the instructions where better.

go to intel's download chipset drivers and get the raid floppy drivers...put those on the USB drive among the other command boot files and flashing files.

the intel chipset software described on page 3-2 is installed once you are in windows desktop.

it is your memory...take one stick out to see if it will post...it says your memory requires 2.1v to work...most memory will post with 1.8v coming from the bios (that is the default voltage) but some memory can not post at 1.8v...i think you have some sticks like that.

are you able to switch out memory to a different brand?....if so, you can then get into the bios and set 2.1v for Vdimm, save, shutdown and switch out the sticks....the only thing with that procedure is that you can never clear CMOS...you'll be right back in the same situation.

I don't have any other sticks of ram besides these... what are some 2x1gb ddr2-800 kits that will work with the 1.8v?

I glue right onto a clean part of the board, comes off incredibly easy and I haven't had any problems. I usually glue my potentiometers onto molex connectors such as the 8pin on my motherboard, I had to improvise with a tie wrap though

I tried using 1 stick and putting it in slot 4, and it booted up just fine. Then, went into bios and changed the timings and voltage as specified. When you say I can never clear cmos, can't I just put 1 stick in slot 4 by itself, so it boots?

Is this the one to use? It was the only one that I could find that would make a floppy.

if it worked in dimm slot 4, i am wondering if you have some bad dimm slots...i would check each dimm slot separately to see if it will post to the bios...if you have defective slots, even one, i would RMA the board....but make sure you use the same stick on all four dimm slots...once you confirm that all four slots are ok, i would suspect that it is the other memory stick that is defective.

i think i might have misinterpreted your commnts about gluing...can you actually glue the two spliced electrical leads coming from the VR to make contact with the two resistors?...would the mod work with the VR doing it that way?

sounds like you have a defective memory stick...AND...2.5v is to high...on this board, you only need around 2.2v to 2.3v the MOST!....my dominators DDR1143 will hold DDR1080 with just 2.1v

i think it depends on the board...i put my quad cpu, when i bought it, on my QuadGT board...i used an old Antec 400w supply that had only one 12v ATX supply line...it booted fine and even overclocked too!...now...i didn't have power hungry VC at that time...it was a modest 7600 GT card.

What I did was go to "On chip SATA devices" and picked "RAID"

Do I now hit "ctrl I" to set up the raid volume?

I am now going with Vista since my ~7 year old floppy drive just died on me.

Just use the drives from the CD?

supposedly the drivers are suppose to be on the vista CD but i would have the floppy drivers on the USB drive just to make sure.

I can create my raid volume when I press "ctrl + I"

But nothing but the BIOS can load after the restart. If I put the Vista/XP disc in, it says "Disk boot failure... Insert system disk"

Is it the lack of drivers?

    4005 on air with 6850

I was able to achieve some pretty decent results on a system build for my brother. His system specs are very similar to mine below with the following exceptions: E6850, Plextor 760A, EVGA 8800GTS 640MB, and Ballistix instead of Tracers (same speed, though).

Please note this was done with ALL DIMMs populated with Crucial PC8500 Ballistix running at 1068 MHz, 5-5-5-15. I also ran Memtest for over 6 hours without issue. I used only generic white thermal paste (cheap junk from Radio Shack) on a ThermalRight U120-X, which was lapped. The only "mod" I did was hang one of my LL 120mm case fans on top of the 8800GTS and replace the 965 thermal pad and ICH9 stock grease with Arctic Cooling MX-1. I firmly believe this 6850 had even more to go since temps were quite cool but I wanted to stop at this point to record the results.

Ahh, I read what you said before wrong. I don't think thats possible, at least I've never seen/tried it.
