I tried for 3.5 last night but could not reach it. I can boot into windows and run Super Pi with no problem. Prime fails almost instantly. The ambient temps are pretty high right now so i may need to hold off until it cools off a bit. I like to keep it under 60C under load which i am gettting very close to with 3.4ghz @ 1.5v. Looks like i didn't get a 'gem' but it seems to be better then average.

    In that case.. 60 degrees,,,man that's L0W! . Seems nice .

Well mine got 66-68 (68 in hot room).

I think a CPU will crash (I mean by this wasted itselfs ) When running all the way at 90-95. That's what I think . However even when I think I'm wrong, I never would keep it going "above 70´s.

I got this Result right now on the Stock Cooler .

Testing to see if Orthos Stable now. Can't get it to POST past 1950 FSB though. Still working on it. Temps under load 45~48, ambient 78F.

Did you get your higher than 3.0Ghz? Some reviewers on websites, and some users (like my unlucky E5420 #2) can't even reach 3.0Ghz.

I think anybody who can get 3.2Ghz with 1.45V should be satisfied. Its higher than fastest chip Intel ships, and a small fraction of the price. 10% more is ~3.55Ghz. But, its only 10% more. And we all know that even at 2.4 Ghz Core2Duo is already much faster than recommended for many games and programs.

give us more details about your C2D setup and maybe we can help with that.

for starters, motherboard, CPU, memory make and model. What speed are you running memory at? Is your motherboard holding you back because it gets unstable at high fsb?>

i'm having same issue with the E6420 chip.
3.2ghz seems my limit. L702C560 stepping, on FuZion and g/byte's N680SLI-DQ6 board, F5b bios.

can boot and superpi at 500x6 (3ghz), but get it over 3.2ghz (500x7 or 415x8) and it dies. i guess 3.2 aint toooo bad tho.

450 FSB (1.50 Vcore) ran dual Orthos stable about 5 hours last night, but I noticed a BSOD recovery message in Windows when I was away from the computer for a while, so I pulled back the settings a bit.

I don't like the high temps 24/7, so I'm going to test stability with SpeedStep and/or C1E enabled. I have a saved OC profile at 400 FSB that sits about 48C under load if I can't find some heat/energy savings through those settings at idle.

The U120X is lapped, but IHS is not, so if I get the motivation to dismantle things again, I could probably gain a few c's and possibly some more FSB.

False... Any 'game' system with 8800 / 2900 series. Need maxed out CPU's talking about 3.5/4 or even more to feed...
The differences between 3 GHZ and 3.5 Ghz is freakin' Hugh! when talking about fast GPU's

In my case It's 1.86 Ghz to 3.15 with 1950 pro There is absolutely no difference in gaming @ 1.8 ghz or 3.2. The games run good or bad anyway MHZ would'nt change it to make it feel comfortable.

Games like Vegas wouldn't even do 20 fps @ 3.28 Ghz XD. (all high speed parts even 2GB)

8800/2900 dont need 3.5-4Ghz. Its usually limitation of game design. If CPU is busy doing software audio, software physics, and some stupid game AI that eats up millions of cycles but not all too bright, well that certainly interrupts with ability to properly feed GPU next batches.

Bottom line, you end up with FPS games like Far Cry, Doom3 etc, that scale OK, and get 100fps and taper of down as you approach gamer resolution like 1920x1200 4xAA where its just a question of enough GPU horsepower. In this case, any 2Ghz CPU + high end ASIC like X1900XTX is ok. On othe other hand RTS, with hundreds of units, or flight simulator, you never get 100fps, and its not that crucial to get very high frame rate, and game is very CPU demanding. Yeah, 4GHz C2D would be nice here, but thats only ~30% faster than 3Ghz. 10fps vs 13fps. Get my point?
Unlike GPU world where todays ASIC compared to 3 years ago is like 20x faster.

Nothing "baD" about **only** 3.2Ghz. Thats faster than any product on market and solid 50%. Your result is in-line with what I've seen other normal chips do on air.

I've got my E6320 running 100% stable at 3.5GHz now (501 FSB), don't have much results or anything, but a couple of tests on 3.4GHz - didn't run any tests on my current clock yet:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=151380

I'm pretty happy with this clock. Take a budget chip and turn it into a killer chip
