    Trouble with PATA DVD-rom

    Hey guys,
I have just received my Commando from Newegg. I am having big trouble with installing Windows XP. The PATA DVD-rom cannot read the install disk and it says "CDBOOT: Couldn't find NTLDR". But it works fine on the other computer I have. The SATA hard drive is set to IDE mode, the PATA DVD-rom is set as the 1st boot device. All the other settings are by default. I tried BIOS 1404, still not work.
    Can somebody help me?

My problem solved. Well, not actucally solved because the JMicron controller still does not work properly. But I managed to install Windows XP using an external USB DVD-rom.

1404 BIOS misreports POST CPU speeds but it o'c OK nonetheless, Vcore 1.475V BIOS.

    9 x 401

    8 x 450 (+15C offset to core temps to match Coretemp 0.95)

a friend of mine has this board Commando and a Q6600 just bought and is having alot of troubles.

can´t pass above 365FSB only reboots and blue screens and the cpu makes for sure more than that, anyone have similar problemas?

the previous cpu was at 400FSB and the ram is the same TeamGroup Elite at ddr1000 4\5 , so at first sight we think that may be a board problem.

anyone with Q6600 can post screens of the bios options to see what is wrong? the bios we is using is 14\04

    thanks

Tell him to manually set his voltages ( NB, FSB, SB ), because "Auto" stops being correct/effective over 350 or so FSB.

If he is using manually set voltages, let us know his settings so we can check if there's something wrong.

    Try with:
    NorthBridge Voltage = 1.65V
    Static Read Control = Disabled

Has anybody tried using the new 1501 bios for the Asus Commando.

When I was using the 1404 bios my idle temps were 18° to 22° at stock speeds, using Everest to monitor temps, when i updated my bios to 1501, my idle temps went up to 32° to 35° still at stock speeds.

But my core speeds are the same (using CoreTemp)before and after the update.

Is this normal? because now i don't know which temp to follow.

1404 temps were too low to be realistic so 1501 seems to be closer to reality. Are POST speeds with quads now correctly reported with 1501? Haven't got the chance to update my set yet.

Sometimes the reported speed is correct sometimes it's not.
Looks like it can't properly detect the Multiplier changes ( if any ).

I've also had a nice bug where the mobo reported the Quad to be running at 12.69GHz

So the latest BIOS still did not fix this bug?

the good , the bad, and the ugly

    The good:

I think I've gone as far as i can with this set up.(rig in sig ) (347x9) 1.425Volts and prime stable, But my temps are through the roof at 90deg ( room 20 ) - this can't be good.

    The bad:

I think my setup is holding me back. is the chip I got any good .?

    on the chip it sayes:

    q6600
    SL9UM malay
    2.4Gnz/8m/1066/058
    L645G253

    It's an old one

I know my chip is as bent as a banana on the IHS, and I could get more from it if I wet in dry'd it.

    The Ugly:

Got to be the Heat sink I'm using !

Any help you guys could give me I'd be greatful of. will take screenies if it helps.

    Thanks
