Team Italy pushes the golden Pentium 641 to 8320MHz

At two occasions we've reported about how Italian overclockers SFERA OC Team Italy first broke 8GHz and later improved the initial record to 8180MHz. It was the same Pentium 641 that first reached 8000MHz and later the new world record frequency of 8180MHz. However, it seems that there were even more to get from the processor in question. After mounting it on a Gigabyte P35-DQ6, pouring liquid nitrogen in the CPU pot, reaching as low as -170C, and upping the voltage to 1.95V, they managed to push the processor to a whopping 8320MHz. They would've continued even further if they hadn't run out of liquid nitrogen.

I think Intel wasnt thinking of LN2 as a cooling for 10 Ghz in their plans...

Welll no but then again they haven't did a revision to the netburst making the pipes even longer to gain even more Ghz either.

Too bad that there's no validation but hopefully they can get their hands on some more LN2 for something like 8,5GHz AND validate .

congratz rly impressed with these spaghetti-eaters for making this happen :P
    Keep it up!

That poor 641, getting routinely thrashed with 1.8+vcore. Congrats guys, Intel should sponsor you guys with a few trays of netburst procs, surely they cost next to nothing now

the problem isn't pipeline size, it was heat disapation.

45nm northwood would probably do 10GHz under ln2

They had to have taped it out, seeing as they dropped it because of the insane TDP. 150W at 2.8GHz!
