My last idle cpu temperature was 16c, load 34c using AI Suite.
use core temp, everest, or speedfan to get your cpu core temps. take a look at the 9x401 superpi picture I posted above you'll see the difference in temp readings.

My core temps are fine - they show 54c on both cores when running orthos according to speedfan and coretemp whcih is what I would expect but the cpu reading shows 109c - WTF! I was idling with speedfan showing CPU 38c then it changed to 90c after a hour or so with nothing running and core temps still at 22c!. Where is the CPU sensor on the board - if I shutdown and reboot straight away BIOS hardware monitor shows 39c. I am tempted to ignore it cos it doesnt make any sense !.

You'll notice that in the following image all the cpu temperatures are 18c and the core temps are in the ~23-24c range. This is my current idle temperature.

This was taken about 1 minute before Windows crashed. The core temp is 41c and the max load CPU temperature that I saw was 34c. It's these new g0 stepping CPUs.

I'll now see if I have better luck with a vcore of 1.6v and cpu pll of 1.7v.

I see that your using a G0 chip. you should try to get 3.8Ghz stable before 4.0Ghz.

4.0Ghz I wish! I asked myself where does he get that but soon realized that both Core Temp and Orthos are having problems with my overclocked settings.

    CPU-Z has the correct settings.
    500FSB x7 3500MHz DDR2-1000

But your correct, I need to try a lower stable setting as I'm not having any success with this one.

    Hello.

Can anyone with this mb try to put 2 pci-e GFX cards into it?
I just want more than 2 displays connected.

Well I thought I would flash the BIOS to 0501 to see if that resolved the strange CPU temp readings I was getting with speedfan and everest and I now have a pretty colourful motherboard to hang on my wall!. I stupidly used Asus update as I was in a hurry and it failed on BIOS verification stating try reflashing again. When I stupidly did - it erasd the EPROM and stopped. Never happened on the P5W DH but there you go. I should know better - I have read enough post about Asus update failing to flash correctly!.
I will try an RMA but not hopeful. Still - I am back on my P5W which at least is show stable CPU temps of 30c @3.6 with 1.4v with coretemp at 23c.

People, it's not the Asus Update program

It is the P5K Deluxe which has major issues with Bios flashing. You are not the only one!
But don't worry, Asus has fixed the problem by releasing a new motherboard (P5K Premium) and screwing those who already own a P5K Deluxe

Thanks for that - if its a known problem with the P5K Dlx there may be a glimmer of hope on the RMA. It fills me with joy to know there is already an Asus solution and only another £160. I can barely wait till Monday to get one - lol!

There should be no problem with RMA.
I have not heard of anyone having update problems other than with with ASUS update - particularly with Vista.
Bios updates are chancy from within the OS and not just with Asus. It is always best to update at the Dos level.

The ASUS CPU SUPPORT list for the P5k DELUXE
    http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us
shows that the Q6600 Stepping B3 is supported in BIOS 202,
and that the Q6600 Stepping G0 is supported in BIOS 0404.

Has anyone with an BIOS older than 0404 gotten a
G0 stepping Q6600 and been able to boot / use the BIOS /
flash the BIOS to a newer version that claims to support
    the CPU stepping?

What errors / problems did you encounter in using a
G0 Q6600 with BIOS before 0404? What version did you
    try?

I'm getting a G0 Q6600 and already have the Motherboard,
with an old BIOS (presumably), I have no other CPU
for this board, and don't know for sure if I'll be OK
plugging the G0 into the board which probably has
0202 or some other old version of BIOS.

I would NOT want it to fail to flash, or to
overvolt / underdvolt / overclock or otherwise use bad
settings for the G0 due to it not recognizing it properly.

    XEON X3210 Socket 775 support on P5k?

Anyone using an X3210 on this board, BTW?
I don't see the chip listed in the ASUS CPU support
page, but as far as I've heard it's basically the same
as a Q6600 which is supported.

Has to be supported... same architecture, realistically just a different selection & labelling process. Same deal as E6600 & X3060. I'm actually hunting for an X3220 GO for mine (P5K-Premium just got delivered)

the superpis I ran are independant as well I just wait for the 1M to finish before I start the 32M one. if you notice the 8x451 run is on the 0311 bios the 9x401 is on the 0501 bios. I had trouble getting 9x401 with 0311 so that's why I used 0501.

I flash update the p5k deluxe in the bios its self or I hit alt+F2 at bios to go into the util. never flash your motherboard bios under windows. you could always get the ASUS P5K PREMIUM it's the same price as the deluxe at newegg.com. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=&srchInDesc=

I ran my 3220 in my deluxe for a while, did not get a chance to push the OC as I was testing other things but it worked great.

I've always used the Alt F2 from a usb key and never had a flash problem that way.

[QUOTE=orion23;2338078]It is the P5K Deluxe which has major issues with Bios flashing.QUOTE]

Does this hold true for E-Z flash in bios too? I have flashed both of my boards using this process and have had no problems.

I have never had any fsb problems with mine on either 0311 or 0501 I love this board on air it will run almost anything you can dial in.

    My board & E6600 will run 460 - 475 x8 on minimum Board voltages with 0311 & 0501 it may do more but I haven’t tried.

I have not heard of anyone having update problems other than with with ASUS update - particularly with Vista.
Bios updates are chancy from within the OS and not just with Asus. It is always best to update at the Dos level.
Yes - you are right on Asus update. I was using Vista X64 when I had the failed update. And you are also right on the RMA - after discussing the problem with the vendor they gave me an RMA for a full refund. As they did that I felt so good that I have gone and ordered the P5K Premium to find out if it is even better than the deluxe. The write ups say it runs cooler and should enable even better o/c's. We shall see - just as long as I dont use Asus update -lol!
