Gartner says "Barcelona processors fail to top Intel Core 2"

true, with 2-2,3ghz it will be impossible to regain the crown, however AMD may (or may not) impress in performance/watt

However, AMD did not. This is proof that Turion 64 X2 is competing against Yonah. Why else would they compare against Yonah if they were actually competing with Merom?

Being released later doesn't mean anything. Budget CPUs are usually released later than the high end models. Does this mean that budget CPUs must be compared against high end models?
It doesn't matter what it was targeted for or when. The simple FACT is that it shipped AFTER the 64bit Mobile C2D=P Many of the notebooks are in the same price range as MC2D, not the MC1D. Nowhere on AMD's site are these tested called a Budget or etc.... processor.

To answer your question, they compared it to MC1D running on an older chipset to have a favorable outcome. Like talking to some AMD followers here, they always have a favorable outcome or else the info isn't posted. That's the way their PR has always worked and it isn't about to change anytime soon. Getting real Barcelona hard numbers would be easy if it kicked ass. If it is only kind of faster in certain apps and etc....., we'll see what we're seeing now, spin.

Just so you'll know; I hope I'M WRONG as hell on this one. NO ONE in their right mind, except Intel employees and stockholder types, wants to see a weak Barcelona and Phenom. Even Intel Fans would be Nutz to want that. Yet, Barcelona will have to prove itself here and NOT as it has so far. No, I don't trust AMD or Intel, or any of them FWIW! If Phenom kicks ass I'll be in line to get one as well.

Gartner again... All of these financial analysts talking bad about Barcelona make me all the more confident that its going to be a very good product at the very least for the server market and hopefully also for the desktop.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

One of Barcelona’s advantages will be that customers will be able to retro-fit older Opteron-based servers with the new faster processors.
This is what I am hoping for at a resonable price. This is why I have a L1N64-SLI WS.

Dual quads should rock. They did on a 426 Hemi.

to stop all this discussion can we sum it up that amd has best brice/performance for their wwhole range compared to intel offerings in this price range (i also add mobo costs into this) but no chance in price range above 200$ ?

we got all this flaming in here because we got no new information, we still know as much as we knew 3 months ago, so why do you guy bother talking about how fast/bad barcelona is? wait for some new information or we end up bashing/praising current tech, and this thread is about AMD BARCELONA and no other cpu
If it's not a paper launch, please go out and buy one? Easier done, show me Fugger's benchmark of one? I said it was a paperlaunch, NOT Vaporware. There are Barcelona processors out there. It was said that it was 10% faster clock for clock. If that's the case, AMD is in trouble.

AMD doesn't have the best anything, if they did, they'd not be hemorrhaging red ink the way they have been the last 4 or 5 Quarters. Price to performance is meaningless, ask Intel? That got creamed while X2 pimp slapped the cheaper Prescotts. AMD's market share went from about 16% to as high as 24%. Only Conroe turned that around.

The reason (this was brought up) is that AMD is saying TRUST us when we tell you Barcelona is Blah per cent faster. If you, I or anyone else makes a claim, we should be prepared to back it up!

There has been no Barcelona launch. AMD has announced that it will begin shipping K10 cpus in August with expected system availability in early September. That is all AMD has said so far. My guess is the launch will be sometime in late August

bah, with all of the bandwidth amd chips are known for, ddr2 will present zero bottlenecks.

Then that's too bad you can't quite understand it then.

    More PR.

I really am enjoying the super duper cheap dual core prices though. $60-$70!

Phenom and RD790 are stable enough to play newest game title ....

I'm wondering what was memory clock for that system, because there were Corsair Dominators in that system .

yeah but that ain't funny, it's rather sad. if yields weren't that important we could get our hands on Barc/penryn WAY earlier.

It's my understanding that no AMD partner has been able to get Barcelona to work properly. To this point in time, drop in compatibility is fiction. The simple BIOS update is not so simple. If you pick up a Barcelona on ebay you'll need an AMD reference board also.
