That would be great. But at the moment the official word is 965 does NOT support 45nm. Here's to hoping though.
    Rig 1: E6400 @ 3.0Ghz // ASUS P5B-DLX // G.Skill 2GB DDR2 800 @ 4-4-3-4 // Western Digital and Seagate Drives = 1.5TB HDD // eVGA 9600GT KO
    Rig 2: FX-55 @ Stock // MSI nForce 4 Platinum // Mushkin 1GB DDR 400 @ 2.5-3-3 // Western Digital Caviar 160GB // Sapphire X1950PRO

but you know Asus P5PE-VM or similar boards its based on 865PE and Support E600 and Q6600 and higher
    of course I think 865PE + E6000 can take advatage of E6000 but I think 965P + Penryn is a full support

only 965? would be funny, because 975X is way older... and the first Penryn Benchies were run on a modified Bad Axe

I just hope my P5W will run Wolfdale just fine

    good luck to everyone

I read whether 965 supports 45nm or not is a marketing/sales question, rather than a technical one

its also a question of PWM voltage regulation implemented on the specific 965 board, penryn implements a new standard...

The Intel 975xbx R.303 (I think) did not support the C2D family without a hard mod. I think there is a huge thread by FCG about how to mod the R.303 to run the C2d. Same thing goes for penryn. Had to be modded to work.

well, but what do you want to mod? since the new VRM will be introduced with Nehalem a simple Bios-Update _should_ be enough for EVERY Conroe-Rdy Board.

I don't know why the Penryn Benchies were made on an modified Bad Axe.

then maybe, just maybe, many people with EVGA 680i A1 can run Yorksfield without changing mobo

i think as long as a board can run wolfdale it should run the quad core derivative (which has the sam VRM i think) without much trouble

also i think some guy work at intel said in this forum that Yorksfield dont have VRM11.1 ... it has VRM11 , but he said that a board supports conroe/kentsfield doesnt mean it supports wolf/yorkrsfield as there r some bios update need to be done ,... or something like that

I've seen the Bad Axe 2 Penryn rig running the new Intel Yorkfield processor on Youtube. You can see it's a Bad Axe 2 and it's also mentioned at the ending.

    See for yourselves...

    Or here...
