    AMD R790 Thermal Disipation

We at Chilehardware are really proud to have released so much info about this upcoming chipset it all started in October 2006 and we havent stopped.

    Cold as Ice

    History:

    Informacion Confidencial de ATI
    Mas información sobre RD790
    Roadmap AMD-Chipsets
    AMD RD790 Codename: Wahoo
    Update AMD CHipset Roadmap
    Gigabyte RD790 Quad Crossfire

    15W TDP
    Thats lovely for a chipset.
Intel could try to come at least close to that with their high end chipsets

Wow if true this is sweet. Although id rather have 2x PCIE x16. Im hoping RD780 will have that.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

Very nice. I like to see next gen hardware with low TDP. Makes me happy inside to know my bills will be lower.

good to see a low TDP considering it´s a high end chipset. more-less on par with P35 but X38 will be way higher if the rumours of 35W comes true.

15W TDP and all nice features like 2 CPU support, HT3, PCIe2.0 (2x16 or 4x8), etc... So you can't even compare it to X38! You need to look at power hungry Intel server chipset with half of that capabilities...

We also need to remember that with K10 CPU this chipset will be conserving power together with CPU when in PowerSaving mode. Simply when K10 will shut down half of HT bus due to low usage, other end of the bus (RD790) will also conserve power. It's kinda 2 birds at one stone .

Shhh, Intel isn't supposed to notice that until 3 months after it comes out

Oh man things like that make deciding between Q6600 in a few weeks or waiting till K10 very hard! Dropping the power consumption by that much will help out immensly at night when I dont want to sweat in my sleep, sep in the winter time when I welcome it.

Will we ever have Pci-e 16/16 buses? Seems all I ever see is 16/4 and 8/8 :/

What's up with the Socket F? Is it just for the FX or will they make it for proper server boards also?

I know. I really want a new PC soon, but I have to wait to late August anyway...so it makes Q6600 or wait till K10 a very hard choice

RD790 doesn't include a memory controller, that makes a big difference.

yeah well , bout time somebody agreed that not having a memory controller on the motherboard is better. Too much lately have people been ranting and raving about the memory controllers on the nb that intel has. But does saying that give intel an excuse for higher TDP ???? Then AMD should be given an excuse if barcelona ran hotter than Kentsfield or Penryn since it DOES have a memory controller on board too eh
