Where in my post did I say P35 was not a performer? I didn't even mention the word P35. Yes I own a P35 motherboard, it's what is pictured in my avatar. The thing is, I didn't even mention 680i either - what post are you reading, because it isn't mine?
I recommended the Asus P5K because Gigabyte boards are highly ironic that they have massive sinks of them but don't actually overclock any better. Which is then more ironic being as they loosen up the northbridge more than other boards to scale higher.
Gigabyte loosen their P35 boards chipset strap to performance level 10 at 417FSB, I'm sure you can find this information in Stilts thread about memset and changing bearlake performance. This is backed up by Pedro's thread on the Gigabyte board where his SuperPI scores were slow for the overclock obtained.
The latest Asus bios' for both P5K DLX and P5K3 have chipset performance level changes. Yet there are also the latest bios that have made performance drop because of loosening internal latencies according to bingo13 and eva2000 as the end users are only concerned for FSB, and not the sweet point of finding the fastest optimum.
No where in my post did I say anything about P35 in general, only the boards in question and as to why I believe the P5K and IP35-Pro are the best choices. I obviously like the P35 platform, hence owning a board myself.

If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.
If you reread your first post you might see that it's not so clear as the point you are making now hence my (maybe a bit too agressive ) post as I didn't agree at all :
P5K, Gigabyte boards are highly ironic that they have massive sinks of them but don't actually overclock any better. --> await some bios updates for the latter they will get there...
Which is then more ironic being as they loosen up the northbridge more than other boards to scale higher. --> new biosses indeed give this stuff...
If I read this ( and yes I'm a foreigner ) I read between the lines that you don't like neither board...nor the chipset as it has looser latencies to boost overall FSB, not necesarrily indicating better performance....hence favouring another chipset....
No need to go bananas or try to go literate on me...only thing you can do is bite my head off and I'm pretty sure I don't taste good...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree
Well I flew off the handle for the response and for that, I apologise.
Post also edited, to not be so much of a jerk.

I don't see how this poll data is worth anything unless everyone who votes has compared all three in person.
I do love the p5k-dlx but I can't be sure that it's better than the gigabyte or abit.
GA P35 DQ6! It's simply got the extra measure of build quality, top components, and superior cooling that you don't see in most other boards.

hmm doesnt overclock any better ? i thought dq6 allways needed less vcore on cpu's for same results then other boards do. and the bearlake board seem to make no diffenrence there.
what i noticed is that the asus board gets very hot with stock heatsink. thats what dq6 really wouldnt. so please dont flame gigabyte heatsinks.

I think it's more because of Abit's recent history with their bad BIOS's and failure to support their products. A lot of people that got burned don't want to give Abit another chance. The IP35 Pro is, in my opinion, the best board out right now. The shipping BIOS has 0 issues for me. Everything works as advertised and it runs a lot cooler than the Asus. On top of all that, Abit has already released 2 beta BIOS's increasing performance even more. Abit has a winner with this board... brings me back to the NF7-S daysI would be willing to bet that if you put one of these Abit boards in the hand's of one of those Gigabyte or Asus owners, the polls may turn.
probably because I imagine that it's heavily based on experience gained with the QuadGT.
Tbh I don't think that at least Asus support is any better & in many ways is probably worse.
once Lvcoyote get's it hosted abit forums should also have the B03 BIOS as well as Fugger's link.

It's all down to quality control though with reports of heat.
I've heard people say the P5K is hot, and others who have said it isn't but it could depend on the end users air ventilation.
Someone on this forum IIRC hasn't long made a post about their Gigabyte board being hot to them.
As for the Gigabyte boards needed less vcore, I've never read about that. The P5K is definitely the better memory tweaker out of the Gigabyte and P5K - just read eva2000's experience with it.
If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.
A lot of people will have voted on this thread based on previous experience with the vendor.
I'd never pick Asus because (for me) they have a history of flaky series of boards (namely the higher end boards, the cheap stuff seems to be more consistent), lousy online server and horrible RMA service unless you are lucky and by accident get a (used) board that works on the first RMA. And I can't count how many boards I had that basically worked but showed one or more of sometimes not posting, sometimes hanging on heavy disk I/O, sometimes not doing a soft reboot (warm start), work fine with 2 DIMMs but not 4 and so on. And to top it off they want more money. Right.
I hated Abit even before recent messes because of their stupid uGuru chip that is vastly insufficiently supported by software, and that includes Windows.
Gigabyte? I know some people hate them for non-support. But I had several boards that never broke and never required support. They have solid caps on $100 boards and a working website. Plus the DS3 just works with everything, including crazy RAM combinations that made my BadAxe bail out. Sure, they don't have a 975x board but hey at some point I just take a working board.
So who voted on this poll after having all three boards in their hands? Maybe a new poll question?![]()
Well i can state one thing for sure.
My gigabyte P35 managed to crush the wall my 680i had.
ON my X3220 i could only pull off 375fsb. Anything after that to 401fsb was impossible to turn on. After 400fsb, i had to drop major amounts of voltage for it to boot and run fine.
Then i got my P35, and she goes all the way up to 470x8 without skipping a heart beat.
So dont include the 680i. Its absolute CRAP when you compare it to a the bearlake platforms.

The heatsinks from P35-DS4/DQ6 sucksMy Ninja is giving worse temperatures then my 9500 Zalman(when Ninja beat's Zalman) and to put the Ninja in place is a pain in the ass due to the grabber's Ninja has almost not fitting due to de heatsink
even with all this copper my NB sensor says it goes to 50ºC when in load(even tough my sistem doens't get's slower by the temperature neither has stability problem's)
My P35-DQ6 needed much less vcore than my 965P-DS3, infact 0.05v less. ~1.43 compared to ~1.48 for a 3.5GHz overclock of my E6300. The MCH on the 965P board got really cooking even with an NC-U6 on it and +.1v only, I can say that with my 100% over clock and +.1v on the P35 MCH most of the fins are still cool to the touch... and that is without a CPU fan.
I wouldn't mind trying an ASUS board, but until I do I've been converted from Abit to a Gigabyte user... Gigabyte has been exemplary with their BIOS support on their 965P boards, and so far they seem to be aiming for the same with the new ones. I'm plenty happy with my P35-DQ6.

well the past 3 motherboards ive had have died prematurely - the last one being a dfi.
evrything else ive had seems to last ages...
my point is which board is likely to last the longest without some onboard component croaking (ie. dieing/giving up the ghost/burning out)?
they are all bits o crappy pcb and will be yesterday's news in 6 months or less, as could be said of most mobo's.
if i get a hold of one it will be dead in 2 yrs or less
i spose its just the nature of mobo's they have so many diff components that can fizzle.
