I don't have a ruler handy, but they're solid caps, and no taller than the cpu pwn fan header. That said, you might run into an issue possibly with the eps 8pin plug. However, that said, the 8pin is a bit more tucked in and doesn't extend beyond where the water block would come out, so I think you'd be fine in that regard as well.

This motherboard is a joke.
PWM/temps etc I have no problem with.

Its the BIOS not saving, or locking up when I want to save it.
It when it doesnt boot up properly.
Its the onboard reset/power on buttons not working.
Its when it doesnt turn on when I want to.
Its that I have to clear CMOS with jumper, switch, PSU disconnect etc every time the PC locks up or doesn't boot properly.

All of these problems where here before I touched my PWM heatsink, but I am even more fustrated with it the more I reset/save BIOS etc.

your experience is atypical - most people love the QuadGT's stability & it's forgiving behaviour.

My first QuadGT was great, up until it blew.
This 2nd QuadGT is buggy as hell, not to mention hotter PWM's.

Agree with above posters. This is a great motherboard. Stable, forgiving and easy as hell to OC. You bring good cooling to this board and you can do great things

anyone have the "hots" for Abit's new P35 Pro?...it caught me eye but i am favoring asus's version since it appears to have better async capability with the memory.

I just recently started hearing a "rattling" sound after going from "Default" operation to "Normal" using uGuru. The "rattling" lessened when I went back to default, but has never disappeared since the change. Is this the "buzzing" that is being referred to below.

Should I RMA this board or is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance!

The buzzing from teh PWM's is very bad now at high load... It's hard to source where the buzzing is coming from exactly, but its definitely not the CPU fan and it appears to be the PWM's.

Maybe there is too much pressure? There definitely isn't too much heat.
It's not instable at all so tomorrow I'll remove the top plate, go easy on tightening it down and use next to no Thermal Paste.

hard to say..usually the coils contained in an opened plastic type container have the ability to generate noise...some have used clear silicon to fill in the open areas to dampen out the harmonics or noise.

The only reason I suggested the PWM's is because it seems to get louder when the cpu is working (ie. loading an application). It's just strange that it suddenly started when I changed the uGuru setting from default to normal and since then hasn't stopped.

anyway, tomorrow i got my quadGT back from RMA. I will use a HR-05-SLi for NB, but i was wondering what the best solution is for the mosfets (without any risk of damage..). I know the HR-09 doesn't fit. Any suggestions?

there is a few more out there, not many, but a few. i was still running a QuadGT up until last week when mine died...albeit my fault as i crushed a PWM MOSFET when test fitting my 'ghetto rigged' cooling a while back. it finally gave out after a few weeks of squeeling and hissing



its just an AMD64 heatsink after some quick work with a hacksaw and dremel. it would have worked extremely well if i didn't wreck the board. i still might buy another one because i really like this board. its funny, i decided to make the PWM heatsink so i didn't cut the heatpipe and void warranty...in the process i voided warranty anyway.

I read that some quadGT owners just removed the stock mosfet cooler and removed the strip. Then they applied AS5 (don't know if this is a good choice, i would go with artic céramique) and put the stock cooler back on top. Some other just cutted the strip in small pieces (as big as 1 mosfet) and put them back on the mosfets (1 by 1) and then the stock mosfet cooler. Don't know what the best option is tbh

i guess i got lucky because out of the box i was easily able to run 500FSB prime stable and the PWM never got north of 55C that i recall without a fan running 500x8. i would imagine those that are having high PWM temps just don't have good, even pressure. i would first just try to pull the heatpipe setup and see if it sits flat on a desk or something...if not, adjust it to be as flat as possible and remount on the board.

if that doesn't help or you appear to be getting good contact, then just Ceramique them with the stock setup and see if that helps...thats what i used with my aluminum heatsink i made and it worked well, i did have a good bit more pressure than the stock setup though.

all i can say is be careful when mounting on the PWM MOSFETs!!! you don't want to break one like me because the board is sure to die afterward.

no problem at all...i just put a tiny dab on each MOSFET then let the heatsink spread it out. remember, all that is required is a tiny bit.

before pushing the pins through the board to remount though, just set the heatsink on the MOSFETs and give it a little bit of pressure then lift it up and check to make sure all five get evenly covered. of course you will want to remove the strip of material from the heatsink first. keep your hands on the strip though as RMA may require you to go back to 'stock'. to be honest though, i really wouldn't expect miracles going from the strip to ceramique...but you never know.

and again...be careful to evenly apply pressure on the heatsink when mounting so you don't crack a MOSFET .

@Gautam...thanks man, i just wish i could have gone as fast as you did with dry ice. i think the aluminum Mousepot is what was holding me back. anything over 1.80v just pushed CPU temps through the roof. if i get another QuadGT i might have to drop Vince a line and see if i can get 5GHz bench-able on dry ice with a copper unit.
