Will 6850 be better than 6600?

At FSB speeds of 333 and higher, they should have the same stats, right?

There are no official reviews so I dont know what any of this means, but here's what I have heard:

    - newer stepping (G0 vs. B2)
    - 6850 is rated higher (3.0 vs 2.4)
    - runs at lower voltage
    - higher price, (~$50 US)

Given the price difference, how is the 6850 going to compare to the 6600 for air-cooling systems?

Why would you not compare the 6850 to the 6800??

umm not to be rude but you shouldnt be comparing E6850 to a E6600.. hands down E6850.

E6850 is G0 stepping which just plain rocks. E6850 can hit 4.0GHz on air easily

It's not rude, thanks for the opinion. This is good info but I am just wondering what your sources are? I can't find much information about the new chip.

Try using the search button. Typed in 6850 and 47 threads came up. One of them was the other thread you started yesterday on the same subject.

No real need to start lots of threads in a short time on the same thing.

I think it all depends on how the new G0 E6850 clocks..... but if they are running the same mhz I would think the E6600 will be faster cos its running on 1066strap.....

depending on the mobo you got I think that 1066 strap is faster thingy due to 333 FSB is not true, Abit Quad GT ,P35, commando pushes 1066 Strap way over 333FSB mate...

The thing is many newer 6600 batches are not so good overclockers, stopping at around 3.4 on air...due to the fact they need ridicilously high voltages or produce so much heat....

the newer 50 batches run on less volt and seem to overclock near the 3.8-4ghz region which is fab...and the price is good too, okay you can buy a quad for that price too, but I rather enjoy my Dual core with less heat output...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    potentially bugger all difference.

say you get a crappy e6850...it'll probably be beaten by a good oc'ed e6600
    im still gonna try one. see how it goes.... and sell the slower of the two;

Im gonna try one too but I know its going to be a tough choice for me if I see alot of good clocking E6700 selling for cheap..... Most likely the deciding factor for me is the likelyhood of them hitting 600fsb and what my E6600 will do on ln2.... But looking at some of the benches right now from the few 6850 thats out there, they have alot of catching up to do to keep up with the 1066 cpus..... Im sure when the big boys start pumping out 650fsb x 9 benchies then Itll make my decision alot easier hehe....

Can you get E6600 in GO stepping? Just wondering......because I know they both come with a 9x multiplier.

Generally, we've seen e6600's do 3.2-3.6, mostly 3.4-3.6 with a little effort, and some to 3.8.

Intially, we were imagining g0's to have a range of 3.8-4.2, with 4.4 for some. However, now that more models have been tested, it looks like 3.6-4.0 is more appropriate, which to some is disappointing, for fear of getting one that does "only" 3.6 where they already have a b2 that does 3.6.

That said, the g0's that "only" do 3.6 can usually do so with decently low volts, but for some reason fail to scale further, whether it's subpar testing or what

Time will tell though in about a month. Definitely, e6850 vs q6600 would be a better question to ask, especially since they'll be the same price.

Let's not start a Q6600 vs 6850 thread again , driving me nuts, each one has to make it out for himself....

if you do a lot of multimedia, encoding and stuff go quad, if you do only gaming and like to overclock the hell out of it go dual core....

For me it's fun that the E6850 delivers XS6800 performance at E6700 price out of the box...

If was not for the lower voltage that X6850 has for me would be quite the same.

This is also my question , I will check the other threads mentioned for answers. Which will be more likely to reach 4Ghz on water ?
