Fixed the multiplier issue by reflashing, somehow I corrupted my BIOS I think.

I have tried all over the coil where t says to measure vdimm, I've made sure the meter's tap made good contact while the other is connected to ground.. and I still get nothing. I tried touching multiple parts of the coil at once, still nothing. So for the vdimm mod, is there a way I can at least measure the voltage being added by checking between the trimmer I will use? Say if it says 0.15v when I have the computer up and running, and I set 1.8, I know it's getting around 1.95v?

I got some floppy disk cable cut up so the mod may be possible now.. much easier than the thick wire that I was using before. I was going to take a stick of ram that I have that's 2.3v that won't post in here or the ds3 and turn up the pot just until it POSTs but is unstable, then turn it up until it's stable at its stock 4-4-4-12 ddr1000 until it can do some memtest in windows, then turn it up ever so slightly more until it can do 16 passes of it, and see what the highest resistance on the pan pot is I can do it with.

Hmm if you can't get voltage out of the inductor, you can try to get the reading out of the mosfet.

    A hah, I got it.

The actual coil is shaped like a rainbow, and gives me nothing. However, under the "rainbow" there's some other crap covered in plastic.. so I poked through the plastic, and voila.

I could only find 100K pan pots at radioshack, so I had to get that. I hope I didn't kill anything.. the stupidest tiniest twist went from 1.5-2.8! For 500 ms increments at the time the ram was as high as 3.0 before I turned it back down to 1.6. Once I got the idea a little more I tried as best I could to adjust it to around 2.3 actual for 2.1 in bios, closest I could get was 2.27-2.28 actual for 2.1 in BIOS. Close enough since this is 2.2-2.3v rated memory.

does vfsb help at all if I'm only at 380? 400 which is 3.6 freezes after a few minutes of prime even at 1.625v actual to the cpu with any ram speed. I do have an extra pan pot available. I'm using 1.425 to the fsb right now.

hmm I don't know. I know someone who says they need vfsb to even be stable at 400fsb with p965. Personally, I've taken my p5b vanilla up to 500fsb, which it did stably with just 1.2vfsb. So that said, I'm not sure.

Is VFSB the thing next to the cpu or the thing next to the sata ports? I have a waterblock on the one next to the cpu but stock heatsink on the one by the sata.

500 FSB is possible on the e6400, but even 400 on this quad is tough.

What would be too high, assuming temperatures are taken care of(A/C'd water going to every block). 1.55, 1.6? I do have one last pan pot available.

I'm sorry but are you referring to the pin on the left in this picture? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1160908156

If the pin on the right is 9, I don't see how the one on the left could be 6. Just want to make sure so I don't fry my board at the last mod.

The pin by the dot is 1. You traverse in a U. So yes, if one is 6, the other is 9.

    Ok, cool.

Last question - what should I aim for? The northbridge is watercooled and the southbridge has plain stock with some 80mm fan on it. Is 1.55 begging for a dead board, or is 1.6+ begging for a dead board?

Are you referring to vfsb? If so, with c2d's, you shouldn't need much vfsb at all..

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...2&postcount=53

and the max for the northbridge side is pretty low. however, people do run upwards of 1.5vfsb seemingly without issue. That said, I believe some of the c1 editions possibly needed more vfsb.

Personally, I've been able to do 500fsb on my p5b vanilla with stock 1.2vfsb.

Set vfsb, 1.45. Actual.. 1.37. I am getting sick and tired of this asus undervolting everything. The DS3 is so much better at this. I'll do the vfsb mod tonight, if anything, just to get what I put in the BIOS.

eh, it's no real bother. I mean, if you're not going to push it anymore, 1.37vfsb is alright. Because of the low specified maxes by intel, the lower you get for vfsb, the better. I mean, lower voltages in general are better anyway so...

I did vdimm, vfsb, vdroop, and vmch.

The vdimm does little - 4-4-4-12 vs 5-5-5-15 doesn't make any difference in real applications so far. vfsb and vmch added 0% to the overclock. The vdroop is the only one that did much, so I guess I can unsolder the rest.

It's not the coil. Under the coil, there's another coil.. and it's covered in plastic. That coil(once you get rid of some of the plastic), to ground, is what you measure. I think the top coil is just for show to fool potential voltmodders, since I get nothing measuring it.

There's also some solder crap on the bottom of the coil that you can measure to.

For the board that you have, I believe 2.15 is the same as setting 2.10. 2.25, 2.30, 2.35, 2.40 are all the same setting and resulted in 2.37v actual. 2.45v resulted in 2.55v actual. setting 2.15v resulted in 2.10v in aisuite. setting above 2.15v resulted in aisuite crashing on load

    welcome to my world
I cant get >380 really stable either. The bad part is, >400 it fails to POST (doesn't seem to switch to 1333 bootstrap...??)

Personally I would be thrilled if I could get 3.2Ghz working on air with stock (or small increase) voltage.

I'm at 1.6V with Artic Freezer 7 pro struggling to get 3.08Ghz stable with E6420 (hoping Vdroop mod will fix all that).

Tonight, ripping damn NB off, and checking out what that thermal pad is doing... I really hope putting some good paste under there fixes all my fsb issues. Last result will be OCZ P4 Gladiator brick of copper on the NB... then its the doggy house (RMA/eBAY).
