The hard part is actually getting it off, and even that is easy. After that, just put electrical tape over the little capacitors or whatever they are and you're good to go - it's nearly impossible to break the core, unless you use something other than a bolt down heatsink.

I will take a more in depth look at it when I get home, and probably try it on my 3500+ 64 first.

You should get some bad ass ambient temps...

To achieve on air, let's be optimistic and say that you've got a 20C DeltaT under load... so a -20C ambient temp should help you A LOT

So taking the rig outside on Finland, Norway, extreme north of Canada and so on would be perfect...

But it will still be a VERY HARD or almost impossible milestone to achieve...

3.2GHz can be done with my sig Opty 148, with ambient temps of 20C or so...

My 165 can go further, but I'm afraid of putting so much volts into it...

Where are you from? What are your current ambient temps?

lol FLORIDA! It's 98F in the shade with a fan on.

At 1.6v I am getting idle of 34-35c which is pretty damn good I think.
I will PROBABLY remove the IHS and lap my heatsink which should lower it a good 8c I hope.
I KNOW I will be able to make 3.3GHz with the DFI Expert DR, but 3.5 IS going to be pushing it. I hope I can achieve it, if not now then I will just wait till winter aha.

Anyways I contacted the seller on ebay (NXIC) and he was very helpful and replied quickly, overall a great seller, he said he shipped out the item and a tracking number will be ready tomorrow and I can't wait to get the item as well as my new 92mm fan that I ordered, should pump some more CFM through the heatsink (which is this)

That's the update for today :]

I can clockgen from 2.0GHz to 3.04GHz and not even freeze. I couldn't do 2.2 to 2.3 with my 3500+ Venice or it would freeze, I would have to do small amounts until I made it to 2.55GHz.

    I think I can do it. :]

if you give it volts i have faith, but if ur gunna be scary, it won't work i remember i gave my old clawhammer cpu 1.9 v for 2600 mhz, wich ain't bad for a 3000+ ( 1.8 ghz ) but the volts is rediculous

    canned air aint bad stuff..

with a friend we had a axia 1gig booting + ebnching at 1.7 using it, booted 98se @ 1900 iirc

that was with a voltmodded, +5V modded and VIO modded KK266+ feeding about 2.7v core.

    That's E(X)TREME voltages!!!!
    I once gave 3.5V to K6-2 350MHz (2.2V default) by mistake
It survived 2 days of this torture before I rechecked mobo settings...

    hahahha nice guys!
Well I seem to be running fine at 3.1GHz with stock volts (about 1.4v)
So as soon as this damn board comes in from Canada I can pump up the volts again to 1.675v and get it to 3.5Ghz (with the help of a TON of canned air I suppose haha)

    good luck with it mate...

i had a decapped K6/2 500 AFX core. took a Taisol 742 (the all alu one) sawed the 2 outer rows off, "adjusted" the clip, with a saw and some pliars, used elctrical tape to make a shim, fed it 3.2V and ran it at 600mhz fo about a year
sold it on the OCUK forums to someone, never heard any complaints about it so...

    those were tough chips.

I almost made 3.5 on my opty while feeding 1.875v though it. It was cold air though, about 35F. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=161620

Revise your sentence because I have no idea what you just said.

I get off work today at 5 so I should be home at 6ish and have everything running by 7 (I like to take showers and eat after work) :]

EDIT: Oh yeah KillerT those Venus overclock really nice.
but what were your temps with that much voltage?
