    If you apply tape to the shim then paint the tape, you can set the heatsink onto the tape and it will leave paint marks where you need to trim..

    thanks for the tip, the way I did it though was to mount the hs onto the gpu with some cheap thermal grease the grease left an imprint on the contact area of the heatsink I marked it off then I just trimmed from there.

    well it turns out I had shaved enough off the hs to mount it and install it in the computer......Before I started to install this with stock hs I was idling at 46c now Im averaging in AMD GPU clock tool 35.854c with a stupid 19cfm 92mm fan I took off a old PSU (Im waiting for a shipment of memory heatsinks and a couple 92mm fans and a new case). I also tested without this fan and I idle fanless at 47c

    I got 2x120mm fans on the side of my case and its near a window and its really cool out tonight like 15c

    a couple pics

    Is the base wide enough? With the GPU turned at an angle the corners go past the shim just slightly (or right up to it).

    Very nice work! Thats really funny though, you can get just about the same temps passively compared to the stock @ ridiculous speeds.

    Imagine an HR-03 on it.

    Core i7 920 D0 B-batch (4.1) (Kinda Stable?) | DFI X58 T3eH8 (Fed up with its' issues, may get a new board soon) | Patriot 1600 (9-9-9-24) (for now) | XFX HD 4890 (971/1065) (for now) |
    80GB X25-m G2 | WD 640GB | PCP&C 750 | Dell 2408 LCD | NEC 1970GX LCD | Win7 Pro | CoolerMaster ATCS 840 {Modded to reverse-ATX, WC'ing internal}

    CPU Loop: MCP655 > HK 3.0 LT > ST 320 (3x Scythe G's) > ST Res >Pump
    GPU Loop: MCP655 > MCW-60 > PA160 (1x YL D12SH) > ST Res > BIP 220 (2x YL D12SH) >Pump

    Yes, it runs the same dimension on the holes as the X1950XT so all that needed to be done was to shave off enough from the contact area so it would drop in past the shim surrounding the GPU.

    Its 20c here now and Im idling at 41c
