Thanks Megatron... it and my old DS3 have served me well since I bought them last August.
As I said previously, I used Memtest+ 1.7v to verify the Ballistix RAM was stable at 1220MHz on the P35 chipset. Considering the 965P chipset couldn't push the RAM above 1100MHz at any voltage, there has been some serious improvements made between the P35-DQ6 and the 965P-DS3. Memtest works just fine.
I notched my voltages a bit higher than I'd like to be on the safe side, at least either the FSB or MCH can likely stand to lose some voltage but I am not sure yet which. Strangely I was expecting the motherboard to need some extensive fan cooling, but rather bizarrely the majority of the "heatpipe towers" assembly runs almost cool to the touch. I wish Gigabyte would use a NB temp sensor on this board... Even the fins above the VREGs are only just a bit warm, and I don't keep the AC set that low I thought...I don't use screamers for fans, I like my silence.
Also the lack of a TRC setting is a bit miffing, it's an outstanding board but Gigabyte could be doing a fair bit more to improve it further to make it a perfect one.
534FSB Settings (As I best recall, & still being changed):
Memory: "Option 2"
FSB: +0.10
MCH +0.15
PCIe: +0.05 "just because"
Will try some more GPU overclocking at a later date with that PCIe voltage setting as the 8800GTS clocked over 600Mhz core on my old DS3 without issue.
Reality did strike, the last break between Orthos runs I dropped the CPU multi down to 6 and kicked up the FSB... my DS3 was capable of an absurdly high FSB but this specific DQ6 board simply cannot run a 560FSB at all. It makes it to windows, but the system will seize a few seconds into Orthos no matter the MCH and FSB voltage settings. Further overclocking to even 3.8GHz was like I hit a brick wall, as it would load windows but that was it. I'm not sure the board is capable of running the 540+ FSB, at least not until a few more tuned BIOS updates. 3.73GHz is as high as I am going to get out of it after all.![]()

I have a problem with DDR voltage: my 2x1GB DDR2 Micron D9DQW "fatbodys" run 24/7 1:1 400MHz@4-3-3-7@2,25V(+0,4V). Until today I was unable to increase DDR voltage to +0,5V(crash after booting into win-->loading antivirus and stuff...). Today, mysteriousy, it booted @+0,5V(2,35V) and I did a little test: http://ceemic.pri.ee/c2d/509spii.JPG
But I can't use +0,6V; crash(BSOD) before loading win![]()
I have tried w/ F1 and the newer F2 BIOS...
Vmods - what can possibly go wrong? ©
I have Corsair Dominator 2x1024 8500 C5D and I wonder if they use micron D9 memory chips as I am no more able to have a rock stable system with DQ6 and F4 bios, even at default settings.
Anyway there is something wrong in that BIOS about memory settings: from cold boot I have always Orthos in error after less than a minute; from warm boot, without changing anything, Orthos is stable for hours![]()
If I can find the F3 bios, I will check with that one.
Ceemic, since you are using the DS3 you should check what the actual voltage the RAM is getting. My old DS3 could not deliver volts higher than 0.04+, if I tried it would make the RAM unstable. The new DS3Rs could be the same .
Brama, your RAM uses special handpicked Micron D9s... Default settings equals "Option 1" PLL settings, so that is why I suggest that you try Option 2 and manually set the voltages. I have not used the F3 BIOS and have no intention of doing so, F4 works great with Option 2 set for my Micron D9 RAM.

ey all, as no one has replied to my other posts, i thought I would repost and use pictures. as you can see the p35c-ds3r has a different set of resistors than the regular ds3r in the area where the vcore and vdrop mods are to be done. I tried soem guess work with no avail, but the board did not die so al is good.
here is a pic of the vcore/vdrop mods for the ds3r from the vr-zone review.
(original site -> http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=4966&s=10)
and here is the same layout on the p35c-ds3r
if anyone could tell me how-to find the vmod points for vcore and vdrop, or better, upload a picture with info, would be much appreciated!!!
Is the PCI Clock on these new Gigabyte P35 boards locked at 33 Mhz when raising the FSB? There is no way to directly lock the PCI bus in the BIOS and I don't want to fry my PCI cards from overclocking!
Yes it's locked.

Thanks, Cob. I emailed Gigabyte earlier to ask them this question and they said "there are no options to lock the pci bus". Of course I know there is no PCI Lock in the BIOS, but Gigabyte could have told me they lock the PCI bus to 33 Mhz by default when raising the FSB!
Seriously now, do you think anyone would have been able to hit those moster 500+ MHz FSBs if the PCI frequency wasn't locked? Doh...

1) will TR Ultra 120 xTreme fit a DS3R/P mobo?
2) is there a "cmos reloaded" option in DS3P ?
i'm pretty sure there is nothing like that on DS3R, but could'nt find infos on DS3P.
thanks![]()

A little update, the cpu now seems perfectly stable at just over 3.8ghz. It can crunch small ffts without issue. However blend would crap out in a matter of minutes.
I started to suspect the NB as the ram was running slower than my last stable oc so I whipped the Heatpipe off and saw a very sorry sight - only 1/3rd of the thermal pad on the NB was making contact and the 1/3rd that had been making contact was bone dry. I've taken some pics and once I've found my camera cable I'll show you the pictures I took. I've applied some MX-1 to the NB and SB and I'm now (touch wood) Blending stable. I had to bump up the NB and GMCH voltages a fair way to manage it though as well as incresing DDR voltage to 2.3v - I think I'll save 3.8Ghz for benching only!
I'll post pics in a bit - this needs to be seen!
Edit - I've got a 10C drop on the NB temp, inspite of increasing the voltage!

still trying to workout a vcore and vdrop mod for my p35c-ds3r, can someone who understands vmods plz help?![]()

hey all
probably not the best place for this question, but i'd rather not start a new thread.
i'm going to grab an e6600 along with some 1066 ballistix, but i'm unsure of what mobo to get. i'm currently stuck between the DS3r and DS3p. i once considered the p5k as an option, but these gigabyte boards look too good
anyone have any recommendations? i'm leaning towards the ds3p right now.
thanks
