I assume you are talking about the same reasoning for getting Dual Channel kit vs seperate sticks : it will be the same situation i.e you have 1 bios with 2 (perhaps) different pairs ( DDR2-800 &DDR2-1000 for example). so the penalty in running the 2*(2*1GB) ram at the slowest common denominator is hard to predict.
4. BUT the PC performance vs RAM performance are 2 different things, and as #2 indicated , even a bit slower ram can be beneficial overall .
5. By itself , ram speed contributes not more than 1 digit percents to PC performance .
