The P5K Deluxe is sweet! I managed to get to 7X514FSB on 4 1GB sticks!

I left all the voltages at Auto except Vcore=1.55V, Vdimm=2.2V, and NB=1.55V.

Here's Orthos at 1 hour stable!

I got this board to replace an Abit QuadGT. The QuadGT doesn't seem to play well with 4x1GB sticks, max I got on it was 8X449FSB.

My P5K Deluxe arrived today and I'm liking it so far. There's a few things that are worth noting however. I was aware that a 8800GTX blocked a couple of the SATA connectors and that the clear cmos jumper was pretty much inaccessable with a 2 slot video card installed. It's actually worst than that if you have an 8800 Ultra or an ACS3 card with the extended cover...it blocks 4 of the 6 SATA connectors! I'm not sure what Asus was thinking. Fortunately Asus includes a couple of SATA cables with a right angle on one end..and they fit under the video card just fine, so I ended up with 4 usable SATA ports, which is plenty for me.

I was originally planning to update to bios 0304 by the old floppy method using afudos, until I noticed the bios file was 2mb Fortunately putting the bios on a usb drive and flashing using EZFlash 2 worked great.

After checking out some pictures of the motherboard I was concerned about the clearance between the ram and the video card. Fortunately it's got more clearance that my Badaxe 2 board, so there shouldn't be any problems with the Corsair dram fan fitting.

A couple of things I've noticed about the bios. First, there's no way to disable cores (or I'm just not seeing it)...I like to be able to run in single core mode at times. Another strange thing I happened to notice. I was running my E6600 with a x8 multiplier and a fsb of 414mhz, and oddly enough, cpuz and Everest reported that I was actually running at 368mhz with a x8 multiplier. 413 and 415 both were fine. 368 happens to be (8/9)*414. I haven't noticed any other odd frequencies like that. If anyone has any contacts at Asus it might be worth asking them about that, as well as adding the ability to disable cores.

Anyway, I'm having fun with the board so far.

bmg which bios ? try 0304 for fixing the cpuz oddness or you already on 0304 bios ? cpuz 1.40 ?

as to clear cmos, i found i haven't ever needed to use it, failed oc's recover very well - turn off pc, turn off psu power, wait a sec, turn back on pc hit insert or sometimes i just wait a moment and it comes back at default 266FSB to get into bios so i can try different settings.

Thanks for the great thread eva2000 and other contributors! I love this board .. came yesterday and I had my q6600 at 7x475 after maybe 5 minutes of tweaking. Can't wait to find max quad fsb and start tweaking the memory!

FWIW, I find that all six sata ports on the board are usable with an 8800GTX card and it doesn't require a right angle connector. Also I have plenty of room between the memory slots and video card. However, a doublewide gpu does indeed block the cmos jumper, though with water cooling on the card the jumper would be reachable again.

Anyone tried that 307 bios yet?

As others have noted I also find that the cpu voltage damper greatly reduces vdroop.

I'm using the 0304 bios. I agree about the clear cmos jumper, I've never needed it as the normal recovery from a bad overclock works perfectly so far.

I'm using the latest cpuz and Everest, and so far it's just the one frequency that's been strange.

On the 8800GTX blocking SATA connectors...guess it's just the 8800 Ultra and ACS3 boards that have the problem. Fortunately a couple of the SATA cables that Asus provides have a right angle on one end, which takes care of the problem.

Anyone know what the "DRAM Static Read Control" setting does?

Nice board so far! I love being able to lower the multiplier and run high fsb, compared to the Badaxe2 board I've been using.

been trying to get my quad stable at 450 fsb using P5K deluxe.. i noticed the pwm is very hot which can hit 100 C degree..is there any tip to get it stable beside raising CPU PLL? any impact if i use anything 1.7 volt and above for daily run?

my commando has no problem running 450 fsb 24/7 and reaching 475-48x fsb stable using the same setup

Is the on-board heatsink/heatpipe assembly sufficient for overclocking as long as I don't volt-mod?

I ask because to replace it will mean I have to do the mosfets, NB and SB since they are all connected...

Definitely, looks like cooling and/or room ambient temps are holding me back, every cpu I've tested on Asus P5K Deluxe needs 0.05v more vcore to hit the same clocks as well my Asus P5B Deluxe/Swiftech G4 Storm setup.

The same can be said for my X6800:

    • On P5B Deluxe/Swiftch G4 Storm = 3600mhz at 1.4v and 4000mhz at 1.616v for 32M and 4092mhz at 1.64v
    • On P5K Deluxe/Corsair Nautilus 500 = 3600mhz at 1.432-1.45v and 4000mhz at 1.6556v for 32M

    X6800 L627A872 @4000Mhz
    - 10x400FSB 1:1 400Mhz 3-3-3-8

Can only manage single 32M @4000Mhz on Asus P5K Deluxe using 0307 bios. Still broke 13m barrier easily though

Mem dividers make a huge difference for faster Super Pi times

    X6800 L627A872 @4000Mhz
    - 10x400FSB 4:5 500Mhz 4-4-4-5

    X6800 L627A872 @3994Mhz
    - 9x444FSB 1:1 554Mhz 4-4-4-5

Higher FSB + Higher Mem clocks sometimes win over higher raw cpu clocks - 3994Mhz vs 4000Mhz above

I've mostly been running with Static Read Control on Auto. I haven't taken the time to run any benchmarks to compare other than what memtest86+ shows. Auto and Enable seem the same for me, Disable seems to reduce the memory performance number in memtest86+ by around 4%, similar to the difference you saw between Boost enabled and level 1, and boost disabled and level 0.

I need to play around with this more. Perhaps having Static Read Control set to Auto/Enabled is the reason I can't post with Transaction Booster enabled and set to level 1.

So does the heatpipe assembly need to be replaced or does the chipset run relatively cool at high FSB?

Hmm I might be doing something wrong but I was looking at some of your other pics and comparing them 2 the striker. It didn't seem much faster but maybe I'm doing something wrong. The adv timings are not the same but i just left them on auto on the striker. I'm considering buying the P5k myself but just going over a few little more details.

I'll try some more timings later but my ram only can do 1130mhz.

    Here's Your Score:

Here's the Striker in the attachment
I'm pretty sure the timings in your pic are tighter than the ones I have.
