10x is nominal but x's are unlocked. i believe this board will allow 12x, but I've never fiddled with x's. good luck

Yep. That's way too high for those surroundings. Your net exchange with your room temp is 44C at idle and it should be only about half that or less. Yikes. Of course in winter you wouldn't need a space heater. :>)

More on temps

This attached chart (also from the Intel site) shows the power ratings that go with the expected temps. It is apparent that with lower demands at idle speed that the processor also should be reflecting a lower operating temp. So, even though the cpu may warrant a 61.4C thermal rating, that rating seems to be under full power, not idle. I am tending to side with Angelica that the board should be RMA'd.

Well then I need to RMA my board also. I use SpeedStep and my CPU Idles at x6 2.16 MHz. My CPU temp reports 55 Degrees at that speed. My system is very stable and runs 24/7. My reliability monitor is indexed at 9.47. I had a power failure that took it down from a index of 10. I need a new UPS.

Well i am currently waiting for net to run out then I send board, cause its starting to get real hot here in Serbia, so no on idle i have 59-60+.

Anyway I need your opinion on something; I finally found 2 memory modules :

1. OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 / 1066 MHz / Reaper HPC Edition / Dual Channel
- 1066MHz DDR2
EPP 5-5-5-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
2 GB(2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
Unbuffered
OCZ Lifetime Warranty
2.3 Volts
240 Pin DIMM
Reaper HPC Heatsink*
EPP-Ready
2.35V EVP**

and

2. OCZ EL DDR2 PC2-8000 / 1000MHz / Gold Gamer eXtreme / XTC Edition / Dual Channel
- 1000MHz DDR2
CL 5-6-6-15
(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
2 GB(2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
Unbuffered
Gold Layered XTC Heatspreader*
Lifetime Warranty
2.1 Volts
240 Pin DIMM
EVP**

Which one is better, esspecialy i would like somones opinion who has OCZ. price difference between these 2 is 42euros.

mem #1 is a bit faster and hotter . it looks like a newer version of #2 .
with no direct experience , I'd say #2 would OC to #1 level easily

Using 4 banks of memory

Somebody can tell me what would be the overclocking penalty, if any, when we have four banks of memory installed on this mobo?

Currently I have 2x1gb sticks of OCZ-1000 at 1000mhz with an E6300 overclocked to 3.5ghz

Sounds good!! It is any tangible difference in between 1T & 2T??

Which mobos can do 1T???

Out of the p965's, only the abit quadgt, but I might be mistaken, so you should look into it more. If you're looking for 1t, you should probably look at the nvidia chipsets

1. Windows XP can't use 4GB
2. Depending on your PC usage profile, you benefit more from more ram or more cpu calc power .
3. I assume you are talking about the same reasoning for getting Dual Channel kit vs seperate sticks : it will be the same situation i.e you have 1 bios with 2 (perhaps) different pairs ( DDR2-800 &DDR2-1000 for example). so the penalty in running the 2*(2*1GB) ram at the slowest common denominator is hard to predict.
4. BUT the PC performance vs RAM performance are 2 different things, and as #2 indicated , even a bit slower ram can be beneficial overall .
5. By itself , ram speed contributes not more than 1 digit percents to PC performance .

hmm, found this thread too. i dont want to repeat the post so go here to read it: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=701

also chuckbam. i seem to have the same mobo/ram/cpu as you. id love to get your exact bios settings if you could message that to me. ram timings etc, etc.
thanks a bunch.

Hi,
My settings are basically:

CPU.. 360
DRAM 900
PCI Express 100 ( Any higher it keeps reverting to 1X bus vs 16x on some re-boots)
PCI Clock 33.33
Spread Spectrum .. Disabled
Memory Volts 2.3
V Core 1.3875

CAS 4
CAS Delay 5
RAS % 5
RAS Active 12

Ie 4-5-5-12

For some reason, default or looser memory timings result in a overclock.
failure. I was running 4-4-4-12 when I had 2GB RAM. But when I went up to 4GB, I had to change it to 4-5-5-12. I tried about every RAM timing possible on this board.

Most everything else is at default.

I had greater overclocks but I settled on this for stability and 24/7 operation.

1. I'm using vista 64bits

2-5, I'm asking this because my sole interest is to anticipate any need for 4gb in future games like Crysis and take advantage of the low memory prices that we currently have on the market (I hear rumors that the mem price is going up becase they are reducing production)

Yes, that’s why I raised the question if it’s any overclocking impact in using 4 banks instead of 2, apparently is not.

There may be, only one way to find out. May just have to adjust your timings. That is all I needed to do. But, I was not running my memory as fast as you. Unless someone had the exact setup and bios configuration, I don't think anyone can answer your question.
