Does it take the max temp from the cpu itself?

When the bios does shut down the pc, does it just drop power to the mobo?

    Geoff,

The stupid Asus company wants you to use their garbage software to monitor temperatures and shut down the machine

I suggest that you not install that Asus probe nonsense because its more irritating than an old girlfriend resurfacing a couple years after you're married lol The program self-initiates itself within windows and I would swear it re-spawns itself like a bad alien monster movie lol

The cpu thermal control thing relies on the temp-based cpu throttling feature which Intel built into your cpu, and its highly reliable. Otherwise, your cpu would be dead anyway After you've set the thermal control feature, you can rest easy, even if your pump were to inexplicably fail.

    Thanks Ian,

Sooo, does the bios just turn the pc off when the cpu hits its threshhold max temp?

    Geoff,

When it comes to that dire point, the PC will shut down.

As with anything, I am still learning about water cooling - didn't even know about rpm monitoring of a pump, hence me going for the MCP655 (which seems like a great pump, just never had anything to compare it against in actual installations )

I'm kinda big on automation, so if I was to go down this track, is this what I would need:
    1. Big-NG
    2. Sensor Hub

    That's it?

    3. Do I need the T-Balancer as well?
    4. If I got the mini-NG, am I right in assuming that it is series into the mobo power switch from the front of the case? Also, would this replace the need for the Sensor Hub?

Also, what would be the most cost effective solution based on the above?
T-balancer was the first incarnation of the "bigNG". The BigNG is now the flagship product and incorporates more features than the old T-balancer.

You'll want a T-balancer, MiniNG, and Sensorbus. The T-balancer is the fan controller and "brains" of the unit. Everything else communicates with it. The MiniNG can handle the pump, monitor it, and adjust speed as necessary. The sensor bus performs the shutdown.

    Thanks Ranker,
As I have the MCP655 pump which has no rpm monitoring, I could get away with the T-Balancer & Sensorbus? Wouldn't need the MiniNG due to the MCP655.

    Am I correct?

    Cheers.

Actually you'll still need a BigNG and a Sensorbus. The T-balancer can't run pumps at all. The BigNG was the evolution from the T-balancer that could handle 1 pump. You'll need a BigNG and Sensorbus and you should be set. =)

Today I started receiving a few parcels at work.
So far I got the Sensor Hub from HBOOutlet, a parcel from PCCG, the stuff from Petras.
Everyone is wondering what I am getting plus I can see the facial expression on the girl at the reception: she is not too impressed with so many deliveries.
But that is nothing! As now I see this:

    May 14, 2007 7:37 AM

    On FedEx vehicle for delivery

The big boxes (2 of them) from Mountain Mods will be delivered today as well!!
I guess everyone will then want to know whats in them and the reception girl will just quit!! (haha j/k).

Yeah cleared the table, the floor, the room

They just got delivered. The reception girl approached my very quietly and told me that the are 2 HUGE boxes in the reception area.

Now I still have to make my last decision 2900XT or 8800GTX Based on the benchmarks I dont think ATI has any hope to ever catch up to GTX (no I dont think drivers update will make up for the huge gap in performance between the two) so I think that by the end of the day I will have my brand new GTX. Not planning to watercool this as the blocks are just too expensive here in Australia.

Remember two things: 1st stop drooling, 2nd hit up the U2 case with some good car polish. It will help protect it from minor scratches etc, and it goes real slippery

Why don't you use the MCW60 block + heatsinks on the GTX - my 2 x 8800GTS's have an average temp drop of 15C using them.

Yeah $180 inc shipping from EK if that's all you get, for the full cover block.
I've had enough gpu killed by fan malfunction to think it's worth doing , myself.

    Thumbs up Awsome Thread!

Just like to say this has been a great read and awsome thread

Kept me up for the last hour and a bit after getting back from watching Spiderman 3

This is one case I have been thinking of getting but shipping being the big thing I'm leaning toward the Mozart Tx space wise.

Still have a few months and $ to save before I decide.

Thanks for more insight on getting one of these over to Oz

I am partial to the Meguiars brand. That stuff is found in every major auto parts retail chain.. Autozone, Pep Boys, etc etc.

In any event, look for Carnauba Palm Wax. Its cost effective and shines the best. Its also water resistant, which is good for beading off spilled liquids. The shine is spectacular. I use it on ... never mind the cars... its outstanding and yet its cheap, trust me. Good enough to have won a car show award.

So Megulars or Carnauba Palm Wax? And please tell me how to use this. I'm one of those people that never washes his own car. Our housekeeper usually does all of that stuff for us. So..i'm a bit ignorant in the realm of car maintenance...

    ranker,

Its Meguiar's brand of Carnauba wax.. either in a tin or in a plastic squirt bottle. Both are just fine. Cheap.. under $8. Substitute for other top notch brands at the auto store if Meguiars is not available. The Mothers brand is also pretty good.. even el cheapo Turtle Wax is better than nothing. Carnauba wax is just the type of wax. Meguiar's is only one of many brands.

Wash your hands first. Use a 20 to 30 second rule. Think of yourself as a brain surgeon.

Ensure that the surface is clean and relatively dust free. One way to ensure the dust is off is to take a kitchen paper towel (ideally Bounty), wet it under the sink and wring it out well. Then wipe the case all over. That gives a first run general dust cleaning. The case is clean, so don't use any detergent or any other chemicals. Its just not necessary. If you absolutely have to clean the case, then use nothing but car shampoo. Dish washing detergent or hand soap is the worst thing possible for the case.

MM cases tend to be packed with the ba$tard pallets that stick to the case surface. Static build up is immense and dust simply accumulates. This first run cleaning gets rid of static.

Now, take a small plastic container/bowl of fresh clean water and bring it case side. Take another piece of Bounty, soak and wring out well. Wipe only one small section of the case (one part at a time.. 1/2 a case panel in one go is a good idea).

Meanwhile, you would have opened the tin of wax or opened the spout to the plastic bottle, which ever version you chose. There is a soft wax applicator that looks like an oversized make up pad (I assume you are either married or have sufficient female company to understand what a make up powder applicator looks like). Don't put it under water, but a few small drops to moisten it helps. Dap a little wax on the applicator (think thermal paste.. some is good, a lot is bad). The tin requires you to pick up wax by round circles, like getting butter out of a container with a butter knife. The plastic bottle requires you to squirt out, but make sure you shake the bottle well before hand to have the wax oil evenly soaked into the wax.

Remember that you wiped a small section of one case panel. It should be a tiny bit wet now.. tiny droplets but not soaking wet. Don't let the droplets dry up. Take the wax applicator and gently rub the surface in even circular carressing strokes. Think of a woman lol

Do not use immense pressure. Do not use no pressure. Just love-making surface pressure and keep it even. Round strokes. Now let the surface sit for a good 5 to 10 minutes. You can move on to the other half of the case panel while the stuff dries. No.. I didn't get that from a gentlemen's magazine lol

As it dries, there will tend to be a dull surface with round swirl marks. Let it dry completely. Now, use a very soft cotton cloth, sacrifice one of your old worn *plain* cotton T-shirts (make sure its clean and devoid of washing machine soap lol) Old t-shirts tend to get softer with age. Make sure there's no embossed lettering or graphics. Rub and buff the case surface with round even strokes. The resulting surface will be shiny.

One of the best substitutes (and probably is even better) are cotton make up remover pads. Not cotton balls! These are flat lintless round cotton pads.. that look like those that come with hemorroid medicine like Tucks lol

No, you don't need to wait for one section to dry before buffing and moving on. You can apply wax to many sections of the case and keep working while the wax dries. You can also buff the whole case when you are finished applying wax. First on, first off. Wax on, wax off. Now you know karate lol

    Finish up the entire case.

Now go through with the damp Bounty tissue again, one section at a time. Again buff with the cotton cloth. Make the circles a little smaller. A little less pressure. TLC, like female lovin' lol

If you want to get anal, pick up some Q-Tips. Gently wet one end. Gentlyrun the Q-Tips down the case corners and edges. Use the dry side to go over the corners to remove all wax and/or remaining dust. Use an old toothbrush to brush and polish out all the fan holes.. ok.. it goes downhill from there on.. lol

You should not be tired from this tedious exercise because nothing takes effort. Its a little boring, but the results will stun you.

I did this on my wife's baby car and it won 3rd place at a recent auto show. The end result of the red paint was so drastic that I literally could see stuff stuck between my teeth from lunch lol It is something that your house sitter will never be able to accomplish. If it is good enough for a .... its good enough for a MM case.

If you have a house sitter, perhaps its time you got one of those cars which you wouldn't let anyone touch... so that you can spend all your free time waxing roflmao

After a few months, a quick spray and wax off (fingerprints, dust, etc) does wonders:

This stuff should be used when your case is old (more than one year) and needs to be revitalized, and then wax over:
