It has nothing to do with my CPUs, it has everything to do with using a 1333FSB CPU as it is quite easy to go above 500FSB on this board or others with an E6850. I gain an easy 20FSB with the E6850 over the X6800 at the same clock speeds on this board.Originally Posted by MECUCRY
Once again, are you going to show results with currently available retail based CPUs on the F2 BIOS because those results will be out shortly? How about showing how high this board will actually run 1T with 2x1GB modules. It is easy to get to DDR2-1000 1T with the right 2x512MB modules on this board, not so easy with 1GB modules.![]()

This stockcooling solution will force you to remove it when using phase or ln2... not really a very bad thing, but... strange Oo.
Is this a retail board? I read nothing about it i think...
Nevertheless, nice OC with low volts it seems...
I'm interested how it scores against the in9...

That 325 is with F3B and a QX6700. F3A seems better for dual cores, only hit 305 with it. I have another BIOS coming Sunday that should be good for both.Originally Posted by Benny Lodewijk

I know this is an old'ish thread, but i couldnt find any others regarding this Board (Gigabyte GA-N680SLI) and Quad Cores at least.
I have this board running with a Q6600 and like others around have hit a BIG FAT wall at around 320fsb. From what i can gather from info on teh net and other people it's due to the GTL Ref Voltage, that is not allowing the Quads to use higher FSB's.
I have all teh gear needed to push this sucker higher (see sig), hopefully there will be a fix and in a future revision (bios fix unlikely) or some Guru can work out a good volt mod and details for it on this board.
The Q6600 sits @2835@315 on 1.2(1.16-7 real)@60-65c (CoolerMaster GeminII) and will Prime all day. Just dissapointing they hyped the Quad Core Optimised 1333fsb, NOT!!.
Sry for bringing up an old thread though hopefully more people have this board now and using quads and possibly work something out.
Cheers

Yeah.. when I get a quad core I'm going to ditch this board in favor of a 680i LT version board.. unless some magic fix comes out for the n680sli..

Mind you i havnt looked at any of the LT versions, but are they clocking Quads better are they. I got this board due to it's great feature set, primarily for me teh 10 Sata ports.
It's dissapointing that Gigabyte on the own website say this board will support 1333fsb Quad Chips, there will be some dissapointed and angry people out there. I have sent an email off to them regarding this, so who know what might happen.
Unfortunately it is VERY unlikely this could be fixed with a Bios update of any sort, as from what i can gather is due GTL Ref voltage and othe mods, on a hardware level that appear to be needed to get Quads above 320fsb at whatever multioplier.

There own news Report, take note 2nd paragraph. What i'm not sure of is theer anybody that has done a volt mod to allow for higher FSB like what's been done on teh DFI and Asus boards and what other action, besides buying another board, maybe a Bearlake Chipset down the track.

Try the F4F BIOS and see if it helps.![]()
Please dont get me wrong, but i cant anything on the F4 bios and the link you sent has 2 versions, Which one should i use. I know i'm new here, so no offence is meant in anyway, just curious before i try this thats all.
Cheers
Edit - Did a full search on google and there is a forum thread on Anandtech, thanks again.

WOW looks awesome performs well to
FOLD for XS WCG ; or Rodzilla kills a kitten
With some quick testing with the F4f bios, it dosnt solve a thing. Still got a pretty hard ceiling @320fsb.
Even throwing 1.32v at and lowering multi to 8 @325 it will SOMETIMES get to windows login before it reboots. Tried it at 327-350 in case there were any FSB holes so to speak and the exact same issue as before.
So I'd bet there isn't much they can do with a bios upgrade to fix the fsb ceiling for Quads as i would say it's a hardware thing ie the GTLREF voltage and a mod will need to be done to get the board further at least for a QUAD core.
Gigabyte need to look at this, as it will be a problem with native 1333fsb Quad Cores when they come out, if you cant even hit 325fsb at the moment. I also know it's not my setup either as i know a few with basically the same except the Mobo and are hitting 400+fsb on a Quad.
Thanks for reading my rant LOL. Hopefully something gets done.
Edit - Strange thing though when i loaded the new bios and rebooted the 1st time all my old settings where unchanged (which is good) except for the SB/PCIE which went up .30 for some reason WTF. Also CPU temp was only showing around 19c (got a pic) with system temp on 32c.

MrMX5 - from what I have heard, coming also from a friend of mine to has a pair, the foxconn based 680i LT boards (eVGA, XFX) are posting some crazy nice fsb numbers with quads.. 400 to 425fsb no problems.. I know they don't have the nice feature set, but perhaps the DFI 680i LT will? it's due out any day now.. but I am unsure if the OCing fix for quads is a feature of the LT chipset or just a fix on the motherboard in general.. thus it's possible DFI's offering might not yeild the same good numbers.. I'm waiting to hear..
