I sometimes think nbcc is true as well, but it supposedly has been disproved already if you follow that thread (might have been another).

It must be another thread. I don't see anything that disproved it in that one.

My board will be delivered on Wednesday. Can anyone tell me if this board needs upgraded cooling on the Southbridge or Northbridge? Pardon me if this has been addressed already. Thanks.

450 4-3-3 1:1 or 560 4-4-4 4:5, do you know which would be faster on this guy? my ram can do either. On my quad gt i am forced to run 450 4-4-4 because 3-3-3 is slower on that board, plus i cant change subtimings.

The following post should help answer your question.
Meanwhile, does anybody know of a waterblock that fits the northbridge or should the hr-05 be sufficient even for a water-cooled system?

The mcw30 will work fine. Even though it uses the hoops if set up properly it will be solid. The hard mount kit is now included with the block. Use a screw to secure the nylon spacers to the block. They will act as legs to stabilize it. I made these spacers up a couple of months ago but now the same can be done with the included hardware.

Update time. Hope these mbench results speak for themselves:

    Test 1:

    p5b 400fsb 4:5 500 4-4-4-4-4-25-3-9-4-10:

Access latency 48.7 ns (156 clocks)

    Read datarate (INT) 7440 Mb/s
    Write datarate (INT) 3141 Mb/s

    Read datarate (MMX) 8194 Mb/s
    Write datarate (MMX) 3140 Mb/s

    Read datarate (SSE) 8579 Mb/s
    Write datarate (SSE) 7267 Mb/s

    Test 2:

    p5b 500fsb 1:1 500 4-4-4-4-4-25-3-9-4-10:

Access latency 60.0 ns (240 clocks)

    Read datarate (INT) 6797 Mb/s
    Write datarate (INT) 2773 Mb/s

    Read datarate (MMX) 7421 Mb/s
    Write datarate (MMX) 2767 Mb/s

    Read datarate (SSE) 7821 Mb/s
    Write datarate (SSE) 9022 Mb/s

    Test 3:

    dfi p965-s 500 1:1 500 4-4-4-9-?-28-2-9-4-11:

Access latency 49.4 ns (198 clocks)

    Read datarate (INT) 7952 Mb/s
    Write datarate (INT) 3684 Mb/s

    Read datarate (MMX) 8574 Mb/s
    Write datarate (MMX) 3711 Mb/s

    Read datarate (SSE) 9075 Mb/s
    Write datarate (SSE) 9130 Mb/s

So. Latency checks out! ! clocks still a bit higher, but probably because of the lack of the upscalar but instead a 1:1 ratio.

and bandwidth of dfi absolutely demolishes the p5b

Yeah, all is mostly well now . Thanks again, and check your email . I really appreciate your help!

Having a hell of a time getting 500fsb stable. 515fsb seems like a no go at the moment. Oh boy, I feel like a noob all over again.

But man, I was ready to punch down my drywall earlier today. So I get the chip, and I'm going to install it back in the socket. But it slips from my hand and falls off the desk and gets caught between the wall and the baseboard. I had to pull out my desk and take apart the baseboard, making sure it doesn't fall into the hole on the ground. Took me a good hour to find that chip again. Man!

Hopefully I'll be up and running again. It seems that if I set higher than +200mv that I get all sorts of instability and usually can't finish post. I'm testing now at 8x450=3600 with +225mv and it seems to be doing just great, so that should mean mosfets aren't getting overloaded.

I also threw back on the trusty hr05 and am now indeed seeing lower than ambient readings for nb temp, as compared to ~55'c with a poorly mounted mcw30.

edit: do note sig is the goal

Bleh. It looks like I've found easy stability at 500fsb, but with one catch. I have to turn the memory enhancements off. The resulting mbench at 500fsb with same settings:

Access latency 61.1 ns (245 clocks)

    Read datarate (INT) 6823 Mb/s
    Write datarate (INT) 2835 Mb/s

    Read datarate (MMX) 7554 Mb/s
    Write datarate (MMX) 2822 Mb/s

    Read datarate (SSE) 7940 Mb/s
    Write datarate (SSE) 9096 Mb/s

Now look at it! ! Pretty much the same as the p5b. So this makes me question any "strap" change that occurs post 400fsb on p5b's. It seems like it might be more of just some latency change that isn't toggleable like the dfi. Hmm... Guess it's time to look at the memory fine tuning to get memory enhancements to work..

edit: hmm. seems like 1.50vnb is helping a bit. did 1m successfully (that's a first, with fast at 500). 1 instance of 32m seems to go fine too. but when i load a second 32m, it makes vdimm fluctuate between 2.11 and 2.09, and one of them bombs out, either throwing rounding error or crashing out. guess it's time to bump vdimm a little and try again.

edit: Bah. turns out even with memory enhancements turned to normal, it still won't pass 2 instances of 32m spi. One bombs out right away. sqr05 not convergent.

I know for a fact vcore is more than adequate. At least according to readings. If this is still going on tomorrow, I might probe vcore to make sure.

I even relaxed timings to 5-5-5-15 with loose subtimings. Even bumped vtt, vnb, vcore, vdimm. Just can't get 2 instances to run stably with 500fsb.

hey guys, sorry for the newb question but i just got this board.. how do i set it to run at a 1:1 ratio?

my bus speed is only 335

    e6600 3021 MHz (9xx335)

but my memory is showing up at frequency 419.6 MHz 4:5 FSBRAM

how do i set it to 1:1 so i can raise my bus speed more?

this board is so mysterious. I couldn't even get it to finish posting half the time earlier today with stock volts and 500fsb fast. Now not only is it in windows, but it's passing dual 32m seemingly. before, when i was lucky, it wouldn't even pass 1m. all i could get was mbench result

Sometimes the board will hang right @ the beginning of post, then go on and boot. This would only happen during cold boot's, but now seems to be fixed...doing...nothing. Honestly, the board has a mind of it's own and even buzzes @ times, haha. Also, I seemed to have lost stability @ 500. It pretty much happened after putting the rig back into my case so I'm thinking it's more a thermal issue than anything. She gets an 80mm Antec Spot Cool on the NB and RAM as opposed to a Scythe SFLEX 1200RPM. That will change as soon as I mount the 120 extreme since I'll have space to put the Scythe back into play. I'm not sure how to mount yet tho...any ideas?

hmm, was able to play a few games of cs:s without issue as well as pass 2 instances of 32m spi. but i ran orthos blend and it hung within a minute.

my board squeals as well, but it could be because of the psu

    Greetings Everyone!
It's a thrill to be here! and I glad I can finally post msgs

This DFI P965P Infinity board is my 4th C2D mobo and I hope it will be the last one to satisfy my xtr OC need.

I've already spent countless nights reading through every single page in this thread and several others. I basically tried memorize all of FCG's awsome starter/intermediate guides at the cost of some good night sleep...but I still have a couple specific Qs on some of the configurations. I hope I'd get an answer before I set everything up.

    1. I only have 1 HDD (see my sig for details) so obvious I'm not going to setup my HDD configuration as RAID. In this case, do I setup my HDD (SATAII) as IDE under the main configuration page? and dissable all of the other RAID or AHCI related settings like Jamicon..etc?

    2. I'm using Vista Ultimate and I'd prefer to update my BIOS to the 0402 or 0424 and later beta BIOS using Winflash1.84. Has anyone tried flashing their BIOS with this program under windows environment with success?? I ALWAYS had 100% success flashing my BIOS using @BIOS w/ Gigabyte board and Asus update utility w/ Asus boards and of course do a clear cmos procedure after.

I've already read the procedure how to setup the USB flash as A:/ and ...etc...etc but it's still a bit confusing and complicated for me eventhough I've read several diff version of guides from FCG..and many other authors. I admit I'm not the DOS kind of person but I'm not a total noob either. I've a long history wih OC. I would stay away with USB flash method if winflash is perfectly OK to use. Floppy drive isn't an option as I long ditch it already :p

Thanks for all the help guys, in return, I'll post some OC after I got everything all setup

I've had this board for a little over a week now and so far the highest I can go 24/7 STABLE is 475x7. I can bench at 525(didn't try higher) easily but since this is my 24/7 rig, so I need it to be more stable than 32m benchable stable. But it almost seems like I've hit a wall because no matter how much voltage I give it, I can't get Orthos to stopping crashing at 480+. But since that's the case, I'm going to try my e6600 & modded e4300 and see if they FSB wall changes and if not, I guess I'll try changing the RAM(running G.Skill HZ currently),

x-tiramisu, I just flashed using winflash last night. I'm on 2k3 and not vista though, so I can't vouch for its safety. That said, make sure you check flash all and clear cmos. just kind unnerving doing a flashall, but dfi makes it sound like it can brick otherwise.

revv23, I believe they may be to configure having a bunch of x1's vs having an x4 in the x16 physical. I could be wrong though

calcu, have you tried using 6x multi and seeing if you could go higher? Personally, I have an e6400 and just went through a night of 8x438=3500 totally blend stable, as it should be. 7x500 still has issues and crashes blend within a minute, despite settings.
