he says that in Q3 07 the sampling can beging but not in June or July.
I doubt, specially since there has been running Penryn machines being demostrated for journalists since january.

No Q3 launch?? Intel is doomed, theres a problem with Penryn! First AMD, now Intel, what on earth are we going to do! Maybe IBM will save them both

intel will probably repeat what they did with C2D, demo the new chip months before it is actually available, and probably hurt their sales as well as AMD sales once again, cause many people are willing to wait 2-3 months to get something better

penryn is still scheduled for Q3 sampling, limited availability in Q4, we are talking SERVER chips, then 45nm ramp up in Q1 2008 with good availability on both server and desktop chips
previewing didn't hurt thier sales, anyone extreme was on AMD already at the time, all the preview did was get amd enthusiasts drooling waiting for the launch so they could switch. as for the non-enthusiasts, they dont know the difference anyways.

on the other hand AMD has always been secretive with very little ES cpu's. i remember K8 was delayed and secretive and many people said it was not going to do well at launch. we all know what happened there. I'm not saying that will happen, i am just restating you don't really know anything until the cpu is under the pot.

    Did I hear right...

Penryn is suppose to be 20-25% faster clock per clock then Conroe and the lowest clocking chip will be @ 3.0ghz...? Will there be regular quad cores for sale? (non-extreme $1,000+ quad core...?)

Thought it was only 10-15% faster clock for clock. But it will be in the 3Ghz range at lower TDP as well so more room for us OC nuts and hopefully a nice mid 4Ghz on air will be possible that would be sweet.

It is really annoying that they aren't going to have a new quad-core line up...meaning having a E8200,E8300,etc..

anyone know when I might be able to get a quad core costing around $300?? that is when I'm going to upgrade.

Intel Tukwila (formally known as Tanglewood, possibly cancelled) CPU is expected to be introduced in 2007 Q4. Built on a 65nm process. Tukwila is expected to contain 32Mb L3 cache.
Nah...it will have 24MB in 4 chunks of separate L3s.Btw , Tukwilla will be the 1st "true" Intel Quad-Core like Montecito was the 1st "true" dual core.

It is a pitty that Tukwilla doesn't have a large shared L3 , but I guess their engineers have done their homework.

Well if they are going to drop kensfield to 266$ by the time they release quad core yorkfield one can expect them to release a whole array of 4core products priced at 266+

Its been what? 8 months since Intel got serious?
Intel didn't just pull Core 2 out of their ass. They had been developing it for a long while, as with the secret Yamhill. Fortunately for Intel they don't work like you think they do. They had already been planning their implementation of AMD64 long before they gave up fighting and they had already began their stratergy long before the 2 years you claim they spent planning.

Also, your 8 months makes little sense given that everyone was awing at Core 2 at about the same time last year (i.e. it's been nearly 12 months since Core 2 was first demoed so obviously it can't be 8 months since Intel got serious)

They will drop it before. I would guess something around august 14. for the price cut.

45nm would be Q4 I guess. But it could sound like we get a range of 1333FSB quads on 65nm, just like we got with dualcores.

I think the transition between 65 and 45 nm will be smooth, price-wise that is.
Kentsfields will be just phased out by the market easily...
