    Bunch of questions.

Does anyone have a board that makes a buzz or some odd noise with 1.45v and greater vcore? How about the Jmicron controller? Have you fellows been able to install Vista from an IDE DVD? No matter what I set it would fail. I have a feeling it wasn't changing from PIO mode regardless. Windows did indicate UDMA if possible.

Also is changing the BIOS chip difficult? I ordered one from Abit to revive my board.

    @Ajfina

Yes I used flashmenu in windows because I've never had a problem before and won't do that again with this board. I hate floppy disks and wish they would die. The Jmicron contoller was acting weird so I didn't look into DVD options. I use DVD burners|players because of the superior audio capability. I suppose I could go SATA DVD and I like both the players I have now.

Im going to be building a new rig in 2 weeks, and I have been looking for my next motherboard. This looks like a real winner in my book.

Anyone have any advice for me with this board?
I don't plan on any mobo Mods.

QuadGT should do that easy, as would most decent 965 mobos. The QuadGT is a very attractive mobo too. I stuck one of these on the CPU and it really looks nice.

It sort of matches the NB and has a blue LED to go with all the others

Hehe that defiantly looks pretty flashy, Im personally going for performance and not looks though sadly.

Something along the lines of a Tuniq Tower or TR Ultra-120 Extreme.

not at all , is very easy and simple , the bios chip is plug in inside a little socket, u just have to use a little screw driver or a hook tool

    i even found u this http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-chip-removal.htm quadgt is PLCC-Socket
i did mine and it was very easy, good luck
and yes i hate floppys too
i have drflash if u need it sometime

Me too, I figured, when will ever use this thing again? and gave it to the hammer that it deserved, floppy drive are only good for smashing and Bios flashing.

    Thank you.

This is my first time having to do it since I started tinkering with computers. Now just to wait for my replacement to arrive.

    @DaFox

I just got tired of the same old same old. I already own a TR Ultra 120 and like it. The difference between a Tuniq Tower and the V1 will be small @ stock speed and up to 1.45v and|or 3.3GHz. If was planning on using 1.5v and shooting for 3.5GHz and up, yeah I'd get the Tuniq. As is I am planning on having a medium OC on 1.45v or less with my QuadGT rig. (E6320 @ 3.0-3.3GHz) I will likely be surrendering a 2C load temp advantage using the V1 instead of the Tuniq Tower under the conditions I describe.

Seriously, I think the only reason floppys are still alive is because of bios flashing. I actually did the same thing to mine. You have to admit, it felt good right?

Too bad my girlfriend thinks I have "anger management" issues now.

it was supposed to address the LAN going missing on some mobos after running memtest.

As for flashing the BIOS with FlashMenu I've done it OK with a beta on mine.
Iirc the people that had problems were pretty much all running Vista.
& you can also flash from a USB memory stick (except on the original 1.0 BIOS) rather than a floppy.

OK first and foremost this board is awesome, plugged in and booted up in Windows no problem, LED lights are a nice touch as well I updated the BIOS to ID: 11 so that's what I'm working with now.

I've got 2 SATA hard drives and 1 SATA DVD-RW and I don't want to run RAID. I've got the 2 hard drives plugged into SATA 1 and SATA 2 and the DVD in SATA 3. BIOS recognizes all these fine and dandy, but I can't seem to get my system to work in AHCI mode.

I've got my First Boot Device as SATA CDROM and Second Boot Device as Hard Disk, the rest are disabled. If I leave the SATA Mode as IDE everything works fine, I can get into Windows, and I can boot from my Windows XP CD. But the second I change it to ACHI everything goes wrong. Windows XP will BSOD while loading, and it doesn't boot from my CD anymore.

So how do I get ACHI to work? When I enable ACHI during boot up it will start the SATA ACHI detecting thing, and warn that "this version only works with Hard Disks and CD-ROMS." Then in the list I can see it properly detects my 2 hard drives and DVD Drive but it won't ask me if I want to boot from the CD

Since I'm not running RAID, can I disable JMB363 in BIOS? I have no IDE drives either, so can I disable IDE Bus Master?

In Windows it detects a ton of new hardware. Which ones do I *HAVE* to install? I have a X-Fi sound card so I disabled the onboard audio, then I don't need the Realtek HD Audio drivers right? I've got the INF Chipset Driver installed, but Intel Matrix Storage says I do not meet requirements. I've installed the Realtek LAN driver to get the LAN to work. Anything else I'm missing?

What's Onboard FDC Controller? Do I need it?

Thanks in advance for all the help, look forward to having some fun with this board

EDIT: Now if I set the SATA mode to ACHI and try to install Windows XP, it thinks I have an upgrade CD and asks for a full version of Windows. I encountered this same problem on my Bad Axe 2 motherboard and the reason was I needed the chipset drivers to run ACHI, so I slipstreamed it onto a WinXP CD and that solved my problem. But with this in IDE mode is giving me the same problem. ACHI mode won't let me boot from the CD for some reason.

Some shots of what I'm getting:

The boot failure is expected cause I deleted the partition, but it isn't asking me if I want to boot from the CD or not even though I have the Asus DVD as first boot device.

I could well be wrong (I don't see any benefit in it for my usage so I don't bother) but I think that you ideally needed to install in AHCI mode.

& yes, if you aren't using it just disable the JMicron in the BIOS.
