The 500MHz+ CAS 3 Club

Well, 600MHz is fun and all, but we're seeing it a little too often these days, especially with CAS 5 and all being possible.

Thought I'd start a slightly more exclusive club here where the faint-hearted need not apply and voltages north of 3V are almost a given.

I'm fully aware that Memset can be weird and all, so the best we can do is just go off the honor system...if you're using i965, please only post CAS 3 BIOS set. Bad Axe 1 4:5 is also not allowed. I'll be pruning the results personally for legitimate ones.


I don't see very many of these, and given the high volts usually needed, suicides are cool with me, but 1M or Everest latency would be a nice plus.

But please list vdimm and motherboard used, thanks.

Disclaimer: These results are by experienced overclockers, blah blah, if don't want to risk your being RAM fried, don't attempt any of this.

I had some mobo with P965 and there is problem with setting CAS3 via memset - it isn't either CAS4 nor CAS3. It's a bit more efficient then CAS4, but not so good as CAS4. In addition, many motherboards have issue with setting it even in bios (DS4 and biostar tforce P965PT). But on nf 680i changing CAS by memset COMPLETELY doesn't work. It is still the setting from bios. If you don't trust me, I can show you some pictures with CAS1@ 650 MHz But there are others problems. For istance, using clockgen in "unlinked" mode on nf680i occurs that ram is still at the same frequency as was set in bios, e.g. we boot memory at 1200, go up by clockgen up to 1230 and everything shows us that ram is clocking at 1230, but bandwith is THE SAME as was at 600 MHz. So hence I know that it doesn't work.

So to be fair, settings CL3 must be from bios and I think it should be "3-3-3-X' And minimum SuperPI 1M. Cause my Team Group did 1M at 510 MHz (CL3) and suicide screen at 542,5 MHz (still dual 2x1 GB) Superpi is MUCH harder to do... And some categories. Should be 2x1 GB/2x512MB/1x1 GB/1x1 512MB...

To verify entries, I think the best solution will be showing a photo while computer boots at cl3 and high MHz (500 MHz + )

i think the only solution is to ban P965, or to give it its own category
on many P965 boards C3 is just way too easy
I've been testing some and in many cases C3 was slower than C4!

I think max 'safe' *caugh, caugh* is ~ 2,65 to 2,85v. This is quiet pleasant range When I am made to do some reviews and memory must be alive then I am trying not to fry the memory and don't give more than ~2,75v

I have to attach SMD grabbers to get an extra vdimm boost, usually takes 2.65v just to post. Then it works fine after that lol.

It sounds strangely familiar I have "wall" at 2,4v. Mems wants 2,4v to boot Then, I can lower volts to even 2,3v... but nothing less I can't RMA them yet, because they do 600 MHz 5-5-5-15 2,35 ~ 2,45v stock... But they overclock worse and worse. Firstly, I was able to do SPI 4-4-4-4 2,45v 600 MHz on P5B Deluxe . Now I can't even boot at this frequency Then, after playing 3,2v one stick started to have problems with booting on relax timings... then another... After about 10 sessions with voltage 2,75 ~ 3,3v sticks became completely unbootable with default bios values. (I have to boot computer with some other ram, set very strict alphas, set high voltage (2,4 and above) and then I am able to work completely stable at voltage ~ 2,4 and above. But overall OC lowered enormously

My teams mostly love setting 500 MHz 3-3-3-8 @ 2,9 They boot everytime at this value

I had simular problems with my D9GMH.
After giving them 3.15v they wouldn't boot at a vmem between 1.95 and 2.3v.

After some testing, mems aren't stable at 600 2,4 ~2,45v... And have problems with booting. Is this enough reason for RMA'ing them? And will be any problem with varranty?
