I have it mounted so that the heat pipes are below the PCB and the fan is blowing up towards the mem sinks. This leaves me one open PCI slot for my x-Fi card and nothing else. You can still squeeze in connectors for USB and firewire though.

, I've got almost the identical setup (different mobo), can you measure how far below the video card the HR-03 goes?

I also have the Tuniq so I'll have to mount it below, and I need to make sure it won't reach the X-Fi in the bottom-most slot.

    Thanks!

    Uhm, yeah....

The distance from the vid card to the bottom of the fan is greater than 3" but less than 3.25"--there is some flex in the card so its hard to be exact unless I power down my computer and take the card out. Please don't ask me to power down my computer . The fan itself is 25mm wide.
You can get the height of the heatsink from their website and just factor in the fan width, that's what I did.
And yes, you will definitely need a fan....

    I hope that helped.

This is a GTS with the standard hr-03 plus, so without the new HSI heatsink. As you can see the user modded it himself to make it fit, seems kinda easy?

Can you still use that HSI heatsink on a GTX after it's been modded like that?

No, sadly not. Well possibly if you make the heatsink go at an awkward angle it might work.

hey that is my 8800 GTS

i cut the smal bit in the HSI heatsink with a dremmel.

    I´m using the HR-03 Plus with a Silenx 120x120x38 mm, 72 cfm :

I didn´t get more oc from the card, i´m using it @ 645/1970.

The temps dropped almost 15şC at full using the ATITool. Now i have 53şC

@ load and 40şC in the windows with a ambient temperature of 20şC

Picked this up yesterday for my GTS... one question

Did everyone seat the stock ram heatsinks with Ceramique? The heatsink pads barely gave any adhesion at all, especially the "C" heatsinks...

    Confirm?

I still just wish there was a lower-profile solution, that thing is a big honking system with a fan attached.

I just got an RMA for mine. Aside from the "can't use more than one pci slot" issue, the 8800's current fan is not only quiet, but works well if the fan speeds increased a little bit. It's louder, but at least your not playing "leaning tower of card" w/ the pcb + 2 tall heatsink + fan.

Surely arctic cooling will have something soon that doesn't cost $75+ w/ fan and shipping.

PS. I had the HR-03 for the X1900 and never really cared for the crazy size/droop, but there really was no other choice.

Jesus, are they stuck on with wet paper? the sticky tape on the 'c' sinks (which cover the vot regs??) is rubbish, one of mine kept falling off with only the slightest touch! maybe it was because the card hadnt been turned on yet and the glue hadn't had time to bond to the chips? but after a turn on of the machine it "seems" to me attached ok now.

here's a few pics of the install.... then onto test results.

Couple of pictures of the heatsink just out of the box

    The new moddified HSI chip

Front and back of the card / original cooler

I cant get over why companys use this crap on there cards

    Naked

This is how the beast looks attached to the card (with 120mm fan)

The guide says to use these thumb screw like ... er .. screws on the other side but so i could fit the card in with my NB cooler i switched sides.

This is the beasty mounted in my poor little case

Now onto the quick test results!!

Machine idle'n @ stock speeds for E6600 and for gfx.
    Cpu - 16 & 17degrees.
    GPU @ 53degrees

Machine running ORTHOS & ATI tool artifact scanner for 10 mins.
    Cpu - 33 & 32degrees.
    GPU @ 71degrees

Machine idle'n @ stock speeds for E6600 and for gfx but with HR-03-Plus installed.
    Cpu - 20 & 19degrees.
    GPU - 43degrees.

Machine running ORTHOS and ATI tool artifact scanner with HR-03-PLUS installed.
    CPU - 35 & 34degrees.
    GPU - 51degrees

the cpu temps were a bit odd but there was a few hours inbetween doing the first two tests and then doing the 2nd two tests.
To fit the cooler in with the HR-05-SLI i had to take the chipset cooler out and bend the heatpipes and the fins forward so it tilted towards the cpu socket (maybe this explains the higher cpu temps)

But overall im happy with the HR-03-Plus. It brought the full load temps of my GPU down to UNDER the idle'n temps of the stock cooler.
Like i said earlier my only niggle is the crappy tape on the 'c' heatsink but ill have to keep my eye on that for a few days untill im happy the heatsink isnt just going to fall off mid game and ruin my nice 8800GTS.

Hopefully this post has made some sence as im tired and really should be going to bed
