well thanks...I am in the processing of ordering the board from Mwave..best price around but of course , either I screwed up punching in my CC# or something...this happened the last time i ordered from them 3 yrs ago and that time there was a huge snow storm out west so my overnight shipping was screwed and I did not get it until monday...

I wish newegg's price was not $50 more

Just wanted to share some information I've learned. I was stable at 380-400 FSB for a little while then started getting weird crashes. I would reboot and it would be fine for a day and then crash, bluescreen or other weirdness. What's strange is, after a reboot, Orthos would pass for hours on Blend. If I waited a day for the crashes and tried Orthos, it would show a failure but then usually bluescreen immediately or even before having a chance to run Orthos. But on reboot Orthos would be fine!

When I used a Hiren CD to try memtest and DocMemory I realized there were serious memory problems. With 2 GB of RAM (two 1 GB sticks) I would get failures at ~998 MB and ~1998 MB, basically the last few MB of each stick. I thought I blew the RAM. I gradually lowered my clocks all the way to stock and tried many combinations of memory and MCH/FSB voltage to no avail, same failure every time. I went and bought a cheap 512 MB chip and to my surprise it failed at ~498 MB! But Orthos continues to run all day. So I think I pushed the clocks too hard and screwed up the memory interface somehow, as it's the only way to explain a RAM failure at the edge of any chip regardless of size. Even the Vista boot menu memory test showed the error right away that Orthos couldn't see.

I'm about to test my RAM in another system just to be absolutely sure before replacing the mobo. It's my own fault for breaking one of the key rules, always do RAM tests, but if anyone thinks Orthos is a sufficient RAM test on Blend that's wrong. I had a suspicion earlier when I saw the Windows memory usage was not maxed out in Orthos, it's just not testing all the RAM. Be careful!

Are you sure about this? This is at 333x10 & 1.35V in the BIOS

So I guess I'm lucky my QX runs ok with 1.175V @2GHz... maybe this is the reason it is unstable at 378x9? It tries to work at 2270 with 1.175V?

I cant get it to boot with 2 sticks of ram I have tried 3 different setts and no luck so far. Boots with 1 stick everytime. In jumper mode I go to bios set vdimm 2.2 shut down install second stick with no luck. Also tried higher vdimm no luck. I was cooling the northbridge liquid chilled and it got to cold condensation was the result. Thats why it was put away a month ago. I thought it was dead but its not. This board seems to be the best i have tried with my quad core. Any help would be great.

Severance, do you have any other RAM you can try? Just buy some for a test and return it when you're done. I have an extra 512 MB I bought just to determine if my memory or my board was bad (turned out to be the board, and my own fault)

Is there anyone here who uses a CoolerMaster Stacker 830? I would like to know if the Tuniq Tower 120 fits... All I can tell is that Scythe Ninja did not fit on my old amd. I dunno how they compare in size, but with that one i couldn't close the chassi "door" without removing one of the fans in it.

Please, rerun your test viewing the "Sensor" option in Everest. C1E doesn´t change vcore when you set any other value than AUTO in BIOS.

    Chipset heatsink

Which chipset heatsink should i buy?

    Thermalright HR-05
    Cooler Master CM Blue ICE
    Zalman ZM NBF47

Thermalright Looks good but i don't know if it can be fited without any mod and i don't know if it will fit together with a Thermalright Ultra120(because it is large like a brick)

Thermalright Ultra 120 fit on my 975xbx2 and Antec Solo case with no mods at all. Fit perfectly. Click here for picture.

Yeah, I had an extra Yate Loon fan layin' around, and some zip ties...

thanx for the reply. I have tried several different setts of ram but no luck. I was liquid cooling the north bridge when my chiller got to cold and condesation shut down the mb a month ago. I pulled it back out the other day and it started to work again but not with 2 sticks of ram. It does not matter where i put the second stick. Even in dual channel or in normal mode it will not boot with 2 sticks. Every stick i have tried works fine on its own. It is running perfect and stable now with 1 stick.

I know that ultra 120 fit
But i'd like to know if it will fit with a HR-05 chipset heatsink mounted on NB.

Looking at your picture, maybe no

It's Non-ECC all this while. Found out from memtest 86+ forums that i need to disable usb legacy which i eventually did. Oh btw, here are my memtest86+ results:

Wall time (test time) = 8 hrs 13 mins
    Pass = 16
    Error = 0

So can i conclude it's not my ram that is making my Orthos fail and Xp being unstable?

If you mount the Ultra-120 so the fan faces towards the back (instead of the top) the HR-05 will not fit. Not sure about the other way.

hey guys. A question a little not related to this whole bios topics
I have the BX2 and I was thinking on doing a RAID 0 configuration my computer. Right now, I have a 400GB SATA drive. My question is: how much increase in read/write speed should I expect? Is it really noticeable when you have a RAID 0 config? Also, I'm assuming I would have to wipe out everything before I setup RAID?

    Thank you

wat if the test fails btw? up the vcore like wat gtj have said ? btw, did you play around with ur vfsb and vmch/ich or you just left em as auto ?

would it better to do that as check the actual voltage via everest then manually adjust the volts in bios? will vdroop affect the readings btw ?

if it fails, then yes, you need more vcore.

i left vmch vfsb at 1.6 and 1.3 IIRC. my board is currently not setup but i believe that's what i used for 24/7 at 10 x 370.

the vcore droop is not bad at all on this board. i heard its about 0.02 less than what is set in bios.

    So, you need two switches...

SPDT MOMENTARY for clear cmos/ normal mode switch

    and...

SPDT CENTER OFF for the hidden menu access?

    Is this correct????

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    going a little of topic

RAID0 will improve I/O performance but it's Not a "True" RAID because it is NOT fault-tolerant. My suggestions is to create a RAID1 for your important files too and use RAID0 for c:/ while running RAID1 "Mirroring" for d:/

    nope. one switch.
its a "ON - OFF - ON" switch...

so when the switch is all the way down , its normal... when its up, its in maintanence mode. when its in the middle, its like the jumper is removed - only used when you have a botched bios...

i got mine at homedepot. couple bucks

bump vcore up to the next voltage..just a small bump...you will be surprised that the C2D will kinda hit a wall and need "big jump" to get certain clocks

But in your case go up a small amount and rerun orthos...

    My cpu
    3420 (9x380) on RD600...1.4625 bios but 3508(9x 390) need 1.51875....kinda lot of vcore for 90mhz

5 hrs is not too bad - a small bump might do you. If not, that might be stable enough to leave as-is - before I got an extra case fan mine would fail at an hour and a half on orthos small (stable on blend) but I never saw any instability in games or anything else.
