i also had flashes and my chipset temp was always under 55ºc

    then eventually it would crash

my board was the only to do that......we bought 4 between me and couple of friends and none of the others did that

i gave up on the rd600.....already sold that

i miss a good dfi board......

Well that is absurd thought..stock TIM at default voltages would give higher temps so you saying DFI expects to remove the HS and replace it...

I removed my HS, replaced TIM with AS5 and have 120mm fan blowing on it....temps max over 60...

I get no flicker of my screen with temps over 60C....never have

My 2nd rd600 chipset is running 5-7C higher at given voltage.....

How dangerous is raising NB PLL 1.8v? it seems i need a lot more than most
2.03 will boot at 390fsb and every 10fsb after that needs it to be put up another notch 430fsb 2.41v is as high as i have tried so far
or is there another way to get the fsb higher without raising this that i have missed?
    Thanks

I think that there is something wrong with the smartguardian.
It shows 102 for my chipset, but the heatsink is a little hot when I touch it.

    Dasa:
I asked about those ancillary voltages as well and was told the board is onew no one relaly knows but NB PLL 1.8v =2.03 was ok...unfortunaltely beyond that I have no idea

Linczs2000..I would say your SG is messed up(your cpu temps are 15C or so higher than TAT..on my setup TAT temps are 5C lower than SG)

I agree SG reads like 60c for my chipset and it seems cool/warm to the touch clearly not what I would expect for 60C

Man I need to proof read my post..spelling nad typing goofs

1T is an issue on this board in a big way..you need higher voltages..try 2T and same settings and I bet you are more stable
becareful on the vdimm..most ddr2 will die with that 2.4v

I am calling newegg tonight and RMAing the second board...settings are 3Dmark05 stable one day and fail next....I hate this board

i have found 1t is easy enough to run with the ram at 400 390fsb i dont have to increase the v over what is needed with it at 2t to make 1t stable
with 2t its still limited to around 390fsb stable
however some of the other memory timings i have listed there are making memtest86 report an error in test 6 so i wont be using them for 24\7 settings but they seem fine for benchmarking
while 2.44v is pushing it for the ram it will hopefully be ok for short use since its using micron d9 chips and rated for 2.2v it looks like i will try using 2.35v 24\7

I am still running my ram at 505mhz 1T with 2.3vdimm, 24/7, no issues at all.

It seems that a lot of people are having real problems getting stable on this board. I guess I just got lucky, I can Orthos up to 3.82 I am happy with my board.

    nice clocks metalman2785
i was surprised to get the ram to run 400mhz 1t so easy but since you managed over 500 i just gave it a try
at 500 i was getting a few errors in memtest86 test5 but take it back to 481mhz 2.32v and it is running rather nice
looks like my cpu is hitting the limit at 3.5ghz 1.5v for 24\7 use and 1.55v isnt enough to get it to run 3.6

Edit: well memtest86 was happy with the ram at 481mhz 1t but orthos sure dosent like it
wait there we go i had one driver strength at 15 and the other at 5 both 15 now and its doing better
just found the settings eva2000 used so gona give some of them a try and see how it goes http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=3593

Hey guys, long time lurker/noobie poster here.

Has anybody had any luck with quad core fsb overclocking on this board? If so, got any tips to share?

I saw a post somewhere that Freecableguy hit 460+ by tweaking GTL Ref voltages and FSB I/O strength, but he didn't give specifics. I've explored the GTL settings pretty thoroughly but I'm still stuck at 350fsb. I have no idea what to try as far as the FSB I/O settings.

FWIW I hit the same fsb wall with this processor on a P5N32-E SLI, even at a low multi, so maybe that's all this chip will do?

Thanks in advance, any advice would be much appreciated!

i think you'll find if you try the quad on the p5b-dlx in your sig the cpu will go far higher on the fsb.
the manner in which the cpu interacts with the mobo somehow causes these fsb walls.
two almost identical cpu's will have different fsb wall on the same board
while the same cpu on different boards can have different walls but often as you have noted the wall remains the same from board to board.

there are about 3 boards known to clock quad fsb...p5b-dlx, dfi infinity p965-s and the A1 revision of evga 680i...

it seems like iether nobody wants to share the tricks to clocking quads well or nobody knows.

but its an absolutely serious problem that intel and the mobo manufacturers must sort out between themselves.
and i mean fast because quads are going to be THE thing soon and the affordable low multi ones are going to clock like absolute crap on the majority of boards if someone doesn't take this issue seriously.
those manufacturers that have apparently stumbled on the solution can only copy the various voltage characteristics of the good boards in the hope the success will spread.

i've gone back to AM2 for the mean time...i just find all these issues with core2 and quite frankly i can't stand all the complexities and inexplicable "features" we have to live with with these damn cpu's and the mobo's that run them.

i'll build another conroe rig but only for benching at sub-0....for 24/7 clocked machines its just too damn painfull

    /rant

Hey thanks for the response Flytek -- at least I feel a little better knowing the quad overclock problem isn't just me.

It's funny, I had the P5B all tweaked out and cased up before I got the quad processor, and have never tried it in that board. As soon as I get through Stalker I will definitely open her up and see what the chip will do on that board.

    Thanks again.

I really wish someone would have made a RD600 board with the below color scheme-

    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/343/1/

Would have been sweet. Can you imagine two X1950 XTXs in a board that looks like that? /sigh

Hey bro I'm pretty sure there was some discussion of this same problem on the DFI club forum but I can't find the link right now, I'm getting a message the site is "temporarily unavailable".

well unless I am mistaken this board will not go higher than 546FSB.
It just stops scaling at that point with clockgen.

    For a second, I thought I might hit 5GHz w/ my E6600.

One thing I have realized about this board is the NB chipset can take one hell of a beating!!

    546, very nice White B

I have got to 390fsb on my quad core cpu but that is not very stable, 391 to around 410 will boot but not load windows. I'm thinking there is still some trick I haven't figured out. I gained quite a few fsb from an earlier "wall" at 350 by cranking GTL ref voltage way up (160-160-160) while keeping the other chipset settings modest (CPU VTT at 1.36, NB core at 1.48), but now I'm stuck again. ... would sure like to run 9x400 on the quad with 1:1 memory.

Is there any bios floating around since 2007/02/12 or any modded bios that changes default vdimm to be higher?
